I like the wig a lot, but I think the makeup is lacking. I feel like Rose needs big, dramatic lashes and pink lips to be Rose. Blush would be good too. Her appearance and personality is large and dramatic and stunning, makeup included.

I really don't like all the little tendril-y curls. Having some smaller curls in the back/on the top might be fine, but I think it looks really gross when pushed to the front. Especially since Rose Quartz typically only has two big ol' sausage curls over her shoulders like that.

Personally I like the volume but there's no curls. The wig reminds me of a Peg Bundy bouffant tbh but if she added some curls on the sides it'd look great.

Very true, I've seen some good realistic ones as well. I just personally like the cartoony look. The realistic type is also probably a good method for people who don't know how to make the cartoony type look good and clean.

Yeah, it's silly to think everyone will agree that a single cosplayer is perfect and will satisfy everyone. There are a few that are better than average (like a top 5 list) but there won't ever be a #1 peridot, Rose Quartz, etc.

Peridot's nose? I get contouring for Opal or Pearl, but Peridot? I guess I don't get it her nose isn't any more unique than Lapis. As for Jasper I've seen maybe 3 who attempted the full lips and defined eyes. I think it makes a huge difference, but I don't think it makes or breaks a costume just a detail to appreciate when it is done.

There's no way Rose is less than a size 14, but I don't think it would look necessarily weird if someone size 8-14 would cosplay her if they had the height and some chub to them.

I've been told I should cosplay Rose Quartz because I'm the eternal con-mom and admittedly a size 14 (well..10-14s because women's clothing sizing is never consistent).
While I'm not a fan of spending that much time on a big curly wig.... will people actually get a kick out of a 4ft11 girl cosplaying a 'giant woman'?

height is one of the most easily forgivable parts of cosplay, in my opinion. you can always wear super tall heels under your dress to give the illusion of more height, but ive seen plenty of shorter rose quartzes. getting the costume to look nice is a major priority over height, though. and about amethyst, try commissioning armsocks or making them yourself if you want. they save so much time and effort instead of bodypaint

I'm not 100% sure yet. Rose's specifically shouldn't have much problem if you just use lots of hairspray (carefully) and heat, provided you don't try to pull too much hair into them. They aren't quite long enough to pull the curl fully out.
If that doesn't work, as a bit more permanent solution, I want to try combing extra clear silicone through the forelocks, and the wrap it around a plastic bottle or something. Once again, I'm not 100% sure, and me and my friends are going to do some tests (we've been saving all of our drill curl styling to do together as a group). I'll let y'all know how they turn out, though!

I'm being hounded to do Rose which I'm not keen on after doing three costumes from the show already I don't want to wander into Hanari territory and cosplay everyone. I agree with you I don't see Rose's dress as a satin, but when I say duchess I'm referencing the 100% silk satin which isn't as light or shiny as poly satin. I've bought duchess satin from Mood and it was $54/yard, but I wouldn't pay that for cosplay I'm not competing with.

Guys, is there any way to make a Stevonnie cosplay stand out? When her character was revealed, my friends kept telling me to do it so I eventually did it, but it feels like there's nothing to pull it out of cheap closet cosplay. that wig has some good volume- i would straighten it though, and go back and hand curl it to add waves. stevonnie's hair doesn't seem to have tight ringlets, more like big curls or loose waves. with simple cosplays like this, its important to get even minor details right. i would shorten the length of the blue shirt so that you can see the bottom of steven's shirt, and shorten the sleeves on steven's shirt. other than that, not much to recommend. a pair of dance tights can really help with cosplays that show a lot of leg since it even out your skin tone a lot, but plenty of people go without them. i like your gem though- is it glowing?

Thanks for the advice! My gem isn't glowing. I followed squidwardprivilege's tutorial on tumblr for plastic gems. I like that's it kinda cartoony and does have that "glow" in all my pictures, but, and this could just be because of the plastic I used, the edges of the gem aren't really defined so it just looks like a circle from a distance.

Im thinking of doing a lapis cosplay but im honestly not down for painting myself ever again after my hs cosplay days, I dont really care about being the best are mosy accurate for cosplay but I'm fairly deceny at makeup
So my plan is to just do fairy blue heavy (but noy skanky blue eyeshadow obviously) with some blue hinted shading and controuring

It definitely is super accurate to the cartoon, but as we should have fucking learned by now with this shit and Homestuck and every other cartoon fandom cosplay community, accurate to the cartoon doesn't make a good cosplay.

It just looks bad. It looks strange. Bringing a cartoon to life means that you should keep it true to life, otherwise it fails miserably and just looks off. There's a reason why these things are made as cartoons and not as live action shows, after all.

I'm short (4'10 to be specific), and have proportions similar to tiny Peridot, though my bust is slightly larger. I could fix that with a minimizer, probably, but would a tiny Peridot cosplay be acceptable as canon and accurate if well done? Pic related. I saw many comments after "Catch and Release" aired that it would now be a lazy cosplay, but I feel that it is still moderately challenging to make her look clean even without her limb enhancers. What do ya'll think?
