Advice, experience, where to buy, and how they look on different body types

>how they look on different body types

if you don't look like a petite japanese high school girl, then just don't.
>>
Any anons brave enough to self post?
>>
I have one that I got on Y! Japan. You can find a lot of new ones on the auction sites. I have no boobs, and I'm rectangle shaped, so mine fits pretty well. It's like wearing a competitive swimming suit for swim team, they are form fitting and streamlined.
>>
>>7750574
You do understand that bodyshape includes more than just weight, right?

I'm slightly apple shaped (I think) with broad-ish shoulders so they look like shit on me. And I'm skinny.
>>
Does anyone know where I can buy one that isn't like $60?

Because that's way too much for a god damn swimsuit.
>>
>>7750611
I've seen swimsuits that go for $100+. Isn't it normal for "nice" ones to be expensive?
>>
>>7750602

then you're not skinny. skinny isn't a measure of waist size, it's the full package. if you don't fit into an outfit/dress/cosplay/whatever made for "skinny" girls because of some body shape you have, then you're not skinny, you're something else.
>>
>>7750611

>>
>>7750626
I'm 48 kgs at 1,72 m, sweetie. I'm skinny. Fitting doesn't equal looking good or being flattering because things other than fat go into the equation.

Pls go be dumb somewhere else
>>
>>7750623
Well, I have a $15 bikini set that I've had for 6 years now and it's still in perfect condition. What exactly warrants a $100 swimsuit? Is it gold plated? Diamond studded?

Even swimsuits from more expensive places rarely breach $30.
>>
>>7750636
You can't be apple shaped without being fat.
>>
>>7750636

If you fit into a skinny outfit, it's because someone designed that outfit to look good on that kind of person. it means there are people out there that consider those measurements to be good looking.
>>
>>7750641
Turns out I don't know what the fuck apple shape is and you're correct. Disregard me, I suck cocks.

Anyway - fat on top of the legs + weird saddlebags + "muffintop" don't look good in Sukumizu. I swear my whole body looks very underweight but from the top of my thighs to the waist it looks like someone 10 kgs heavier.

Some people just have shit luck with the genetic lotery
>>
>>7750611
I've bought one from Cosmates that was under $20 before shipping. It was as good as any other swimsuit. There are all kinds of shops to buy from on taobao, if you use it.

I have a similar thing going on. Between my bellybutton and mid thighs I'm all flab, but you can count my ribs and my wrists and ankles are skinny. It sucks.

fat distribution is weird.

Anyway, more OT.

This is the swimsuit I bought years ago from J-list. Sorry for the tiny image, I think it's been taken down since.

It came with a detachable nameplate since it was technically a Konata Izumi swimsuit, but it's otherwise a fully functional swimsuit. No issues with transparency in water, it's lined, and has sections for boob padding (should you need it).

I really like it as I know it won't come right off when I dive into the water or when I'm goofing around. It's comfy. Definitely a product I'd recommend, it's too bad they don't carry it anymore. I don't know how the ones they have right now compare to it. The prices aren't bad but it's probably better to go to taobao or cosmates instead.

Not sure if I'm brave enough to self post but if people want I can take pics of the suit by itself at least.
>>
>>7750652
How was the quality? This was the one i was thinking of buying off of cosmates but i'm not sure how they look on other people. Could you post how you looked in it?

Many athletic swimsuits ("swimming" vs. "bathing" suits) are in that price range. They need to stand up to heavy abuse, generally, and are made out of more expensive materials that allow for greater and more aerodynamic movement. Pic related is my favorite swimsuit which is $70 when not on sale.
>>
Question for you all: These are totally cute and all, but when do you wear them? For cosplay, regular wear, or both?
>>
Probably a stupid question, but what's the difference between these and a normal swimming costume? Is the crotch part separate from the torso part?
>>
>>7750637
I have a swimsuit that I spent $150 on. It's handmade locally though.
>>
>>7750889
I'd wear mine for both, it makes for cute, flattering swimwear and an emergency cosplay item if needed
>>
>>7750898
imo only the skirt type sukumizus are real cosplay swimsuits

the ones that don't include the skirt are just navy blue one pieces

I bought a sukumizu a long time ago and even though I'm even thinner than the average Japanese girl, it looked pretty goddamn bad on me because of my "hip dip" (pic related). Never did wear it anywhere. ;_;
>>
I bought a skirted one from taobao >http://item.taobao.com/item.htm?spm=a1z10.1.w4004-7807517341.3.XXr6qR&id=12207365459

>>
>>7750626
Honestly it doesn't matter if you're skinny if you have hips and tits. the Japanese body shape is generally a tube, these swimsuits look good on pretty much anyone who's not fat though, you don't have to be a tube.
>>
>>7752975
how was the quality? how did it look?
>>
Just ordered one from cosmates. Fingers crossed that it'll fit right.
>>
>>7752969
I have the same as pic related, is there any way to get rid of it?
>>
>>7753060
No, the hip dip is caused by a small gap that your pelvic bone naturally has. Those without it have fat covering the gap, those with it don't have enough fat to cover it up.

I think there are ways to hide it or lessen it's appearence but i don't know of any
>>
>>7752969
You are too self-conscious over your "hip dip." It's actually rather sexy.

The cosmates one, how about the size?

I want to buy pic related, but I'm afraid is too large or too small.

My measurements: 93cm, 75cm, 100cm / 36", 29", 39".

Should I buy this: 86?120cm, 76?112cm, 78?120cm / 33.9"?47.2", 29.9"?44.1", 30.7"?47.2"
or: 86?96cm, 76?88cm, 78?100cm / 33.9"?37.8", 29.9"?34.6", 30.7"?39.4"?
>>
>>7753089
Padded hips. They sell underwear with padding built in. It'd be a little odd, but you could wear them under your suit if it bothers you that much.
>>
>>7755466
I'd go for the smaller one TBH. It looks better if it's stretched over you than if it's baggy.

I'm having issues finding one small enough for me, though, which is a bummer. They all seem to be just a little too big.

76-56-76, the waist is always too big.

Sorry I took so long to reply. The one I bought was pic related and was listed as

B:31.1"?33.5" W:24.4"?26" H:34.3"?36.2" My measurements were 31-26-37, it fit just fine in the bust and waist but it was a little too small in the hips for me to comfortably wear in public. I think that sukumizu you're planning to buy from cosmates should fit you just fine though.
>>
I'm a mega pair shaped (30in waist to my 45in hips). I will never find one of these to fit my large booty...
>>
I received one off J-List as a gift. (A medium, I believe?)

My hips keep the skirt part from sitting down in the front, and therefore it slides up and sits kind of high-rise on me--think Morrigan but less dramatic. I always have to pull the skirt part down, and it never stays. I also have a larger butt so it rides up a bit in the back. Looks more fetishy than swimsuit-like because of that.

The pad/cups in the front are also frustrating, because they're loose within the lining, but there's no holes within the lining to allow you to adjust where they sit (or take them out), so if they fold or move too far, you'll have to spend time wiggling the suit around until they're where you need them.

But I'm petite, 5 feet tall, so aside from the hip issue, size-wise it fits okay. Would recommend a larger size if you've got a butt that's more than a Japanese school girl.
>>
I ordered one from cosmates yesterday.

>>

>>
Does anyone have any pictures of a slim, average, or fat person in a sukumizu? I'd like an idea of how it looks on different body types.
>>
>>7755483
Don't think is gonna be baggy since the minimum measures are small for me and I always can adjust them.

Is there one for guys that isn't by JList?
>>
>>7752969
You realize everyone has that, right? It's just a question of visibility at various angles. Your Not Me person is an idealization, but IRL nobody gives a shit and some people actually find it arousing.

Worst case scenario, if you put on some additional thigh muscle mass, you'll end up drawing less attention to the pelvis and more to the proportions between your hip and thigh. Makes a girl look leggier if they're fit and have less fat there.

I did. I have a small waist and large hips and I think the cut really accentuates that fact even more than other swimsuits I have that are designed to do so. It also looks really lewd in my opinion(more so than other swimsuits) due to the 'skirt' part, it reminds me of a t-shirt and panties in a way.

All in all yeah, the cosmates one is really nice, made well, actually functional and nicely priced. I highly reccomend it.

This is the one Jlist currently has up. It's actually the only swimsuit I own, and it's not too bad. My only complaint is that the boob cups sometimes flip inside out, but that's relatively minor. So far, no problems with it ripping, no transparency issues; it's just a normal, weeaboo swimsuit.
>>
>>7762828
Do you actually wear that to go swimming, like in public?

Those type of stockings, at least, are rarely if ever for the purpose of "fashion". They're to make something seem more fuckable, end of story. Guys can easily tell the difference between fashionable (excluding "high fashion") vs. sexy mode easily. The former makes us see someone as more formidable and high-value, the latter just makes us want to shove our dick in.

You're either trolling or painfully self-absorbed and retarded.
There's no "high fashion" socks. There's no "fuckable" socks. Any pair of stockings can be used fashionably or in the bedroom.

Anon is wearing plain white thigh-highs. You can wear those casually, or you can wear them to turn on your partner. They're extremely versatile.

It's the fact that she's wearing them with a swimsuit that makes it questionable. But she could be doing that because maybe she's self-conscious about her bare legs or just thinks it looks kawaii. Who knows.

You may think you're only worth $15 , but not everyone thinks that way. Quality in clothing can be determined by price. I would have no issues saving up part of a paycheck to spend on a nice sukumizu. $60 really isn't that much money with a decent paying job.

I do. get what I pay for too, the swimsuits never get saggy from chlorine (which happens to all of the cheaper suit I get), and it's made like lingerie, so it's really comfortable and the top has amazing support, which is kind of essential for my size of breasts. The top is strapless and I've worn it as just a bra before, as an example of how well it fits/how comfy it is.

Ya know, "hip dips" always make me think of sexy lifeguard babes because of Pamela Anderson and the lifeguard in Lilo and Stitch and the like. Maybe instead of a Sukumizu, you could go for a red one-piece.

>>
>>7783269
Would it be possible to just dye a white sukumizu red? Assuming that it was a quality white suku that didn't go transparent
>>
>>7783280
Hmm, in theory I suppose, but personally I have no o experience dying clothes, and I'm not sure how well it would take to the swimsuit fabric, or how to make sure the dye wouldn't bleed out as soon as I hit the water or washed it...

I shall begin researching this. Could the anon with the white sukemizu that doesn't go transparent perhaps tell what itsmasde of/where she got it? Does it have a tag with the fabric content?
>>
>>7783314
Rit Dye seems to work well, if you wanted to research it
>>
>>7783327
I was actually thinking about Rit, I hear good things about it. I've just never actually tried to dye a swimsuit before, so I'd still need the fabrics content.
>>
>>7783334
Most swimsuits are made up of 100% polyester. Rit's own website says that rit dye will not attach to polyester clothing.

>>7783345

Found a website that said you could use fabric paint and slather it on to make it a darker color.

I'd post the link but 4chin kept saying it was spam
>>
>>7783280
Nope. Swimsuit fabric is usually a polyester/elastane (spandex) blend, and even iDye Poly won't stick to elastane. The best you'd be able to get is a dark pink swimsuit, and the temperatures required (boiling for at least an hour) would ruin the fabric.

>>
>>7783608
I'd say no, unless you're wearing it to cosplay.

You wouldn't just wear any other swimsuit to a con.

Now, if you're cosplaying a character that wears a sukumizu, feel free. As for a nametag, only wear it if the character wears one.

Also if you're going to the con hotel's pool, it's obviously fine.
>>
>>7785831
>You wouldn't just wear any other swimsuit to a con.

Aside from yoko cosplays, yeah.
>>
>>7785810
Why wouldn't it be appropriate for a con? It's just a swimsuit.
>>
>>7785908
don't anime nerds find it to be fetishy and are quick to get a hard on
>>
>>7785908
Would you wear any other swimsuit just... out in public?

Just hang out in public in your swimsuit?

No? Then don't do it at a con. It might be from glorious nippon, but it is still just a swimming suit. If you're not cosplaying in it, you'll just look like a fool.
>>
>>7785917
That's some shitty reasoning. You wouldn't go out in public in a wig either, or in what is essentially a g string with bodypaint.

Because sukumizus are a cosplay item, and most people at a con would understand the cosplay value of it, it should be fine to wear it at a con.
>>
>>7785924
People go out in public in wigs regularly, actually.

A sukumizu in and of itself is not a cosplay item unless you're also wearing the wig and attempting to look like a character. It's just a swimsuit otherwise.

A costume is different, because you are dressing up as a character, even if that character only wears a g-string with bodypaint. A sukumizu is just a swimsuit unless you are wearing a wig and cosplaying a character.
>>
>>7785929
>A sukumizu in and of itself is not a cosplay item unless you're also wearing the wig and attempting to look like a character.

By this logic, dressing up as a maid isn't a costume either. Unless you're wearing a wig and trying to look like a character, it's just another dress.

Which, it's not. Dressing as a maid is recognized as a costume, even if you aren't trying to emulate a character. Just like a sukumizu, yeah you could wear it as a normal article of clothing but it is also a costume.
>>
>>7785917
Why are you acting like a con's atmosphere is the same as a normal day?

Because when you dress as a maid but aren't cosplaying, you're wearing a maid costume. A sukumizu is a legitimate piece of swimwear in actual real japan. Maids don't even actually wear maid uniforms like that anymore. A sukumizu is the same as any other school uniform's swimsuit, which are all over the world, and it would be weird to walk around in a swimsuit just for the hell of it.

>>7785954
Cosplay and wearing a swimsuit are two completely different things.

How about, if I wore Miku's bikini to a con, but I didn't wear a wig, or anything else, just... walked around in a blue striped bikini. you'd think I was weird, or just being an attention whore by walking around in what is essentially only a swimsuit. Sure, maybe some people might recognize it as MIKU'S swimsuit, but it's still just a swimsuit.

Honestly, anon asked for opinions and I gave mine. I think it's stupid to walk around all day in an air conditioned building wearing a swimsuit if you aren't cosplaying. It's not like I would call out someone who did it, but it's just a really stupid concept to me.
>>
>>7786696
>A sukumizu is a legitimate piece of swimwear in actual real japan. Maids don't even actually wear maid uniforms like that anymore.

Before I go on, i'm going to define sukumizus as the old two piece type or the skirt type.

Legitimate high schoolers in japan don't wear sukumizus anymore either. They've been fetishized and turned into a costume, just like a maid uniform. So no, it's not the same as any other school uniform swimsuit.

Also, your analogy on the miku bikini doesn't make sense because her bikini is only used on her character. Sukumizus have been used on a variety of characters to the point where it has become a trope in anime and thus popular as a costume to (western) anime fans.
>>
>>7786696
Well, at a convention earlier this year I went to earlier this year, we had a girl from actual real Japan walk around the con in just a swimsuit. There was no pool in the area. No one thought she was being an attention whore.
>>
>>7787243
Assuming you know what everyone is thinking. Just adding in that she's from Japan, so that makes it a-ok? I agree with anon about it being really idiotic to run around a con in a bathing suit. I also think it's stupid to walk around in a maid costume unless you are working at the maid cafe though.
>>
>>7785913
Yes, that's why it'd be kind of weird to just wear one at an anime convention. It's kind of become a fetish item that otaku associate with middle school girls
