That's okay anon. Humans have the tendency to share and induce their state of mind. Suffering is the primal level of relating, yet fundamentally selfish.

As soon as you achieve selflessness, you'll find yourself in a much higher connection with others.
An example shift in this thinking would be interpreting "kill yourself" as "kill your(inner)self", and to connect with the higher medium of what really brings us here together.

In which case, for this thread, it is Lain.

The men in black are employed by the tachibana labs guy. We see that this guy doesn't want the barrier between the real world and the wired to be broken (said when lain goes to see him). Or at least he finds it dangerous and doesn't want lain to be used by the knights. He's clearly in opposition to the knights and killed them using the Men in black and the info of where they were lain leaked it on the wired.

What I don't get is why are the MIB killed by (evil) lain at the end and how does the guy know this is going to happen ? Also why has he changed his mind in wanting the barrier broken ? Karl says that Eiri Masami and the guy both thought the knights were trouble. Yet how could Eiri think they were trouble ? Didn't he use them troughout the anime ? I thought they were his believers.
Also the knights try to take control (with the memory modifying chip lain goes to pick up at cyberia) and kill lain (the explosion in her room). Why ?

Also how many lains are there ? The normal one , the wired one and the evil one ? But aren't the evil and wired one one and the same ? Evil lain is with the knights correct ?

At the end lain says there always was one lain, she's omniscient, and that she existed in the minds of people that thought of her. I'm having trouble understanding the concept of lain and connecting that idead to the actual plot.
Who created the lain in human form ? Eiri says it's him but is that true ? Who created wired\evil lain ?
How come lain's father is there to comfort her once she accepts being an omniscient being ?
She refuses to be considered a god and makes wired lain dissapear in the last episode. I don't quite get this.
Also in cyberia when lain changes personality when the killer is there and when she talks to the tachibana labs guy and again changes personality. As said by the guy this is wired lain taking control, Is that right ?
Why is lain's sister mindfucked by the knights ?

I'll do my best to answer these, but please remember Lain is a show that leaves most of it's plot open for interpretation. The best thing to do is to rewatch it a few times and try to absorb more information and come to your own conclusions.

To start it's never said the MiB are killed by evil Lain, but Karl is suspicious that the office worker has been in contact with Eiri. It's most likely that he was corrupted by him and sent to the MiB as a messenger before Eiri takes them out himself, remember Eiri's power was at its peak here. The Knights were only a means to an end, with KIDS and the fake Lain they had too much power for Eiri to leave alone. Besides once the Wired was finally merged with Reality we wouldn't need worshipers like them, he would be a full fledged god.

Lain is Lain, there is one Lain. But she exists in everyone; for every memory, every perception of Lain she exists. Her ego seems to reside in Iwakura Lain, but there are traces of her everywhere. Evil Lain works with the knights and is similar to how they seem to see themselves, Wired Lain comes from her interactions in the Wired.

Lain's human form is a bit tricky, but my guess is that it was made by Tachibana Labs. During a quick news segment there's an announcement that they have mapped the human genome, and this was before we actually did it meaning my sci-fi rules at the time they could basically create life. Lain's Father also works for Tachibana Labs, so with that and the Knights watching her it's safe to say they had a pretty big involvement with her.

Her Father comforting her and her disappearance rely more on interpretation, but Lain being considered a Godlike being is in part what started everything; it was the surest way of a successful reset to make that not so.

Lain's sister is also pretty vague, though I think due to the modem noises and her 'communicating' is that the knights were using her to spy; it's not like Lain really noticed anything was wrong with her.
>>
>>2819914
Thanks for the explanations.
>To start it's never said the MiB are killed by evil Lain
But we can see lain in not karl but the other guy's eyes.
>Lain's human form is a bit tricky, but my guess is that it was made by Tachibana Labs.
But why ? Tachibana labs was secretley controlled by Eiri then ? They also wanted to break the barrier of wired-reality ?
If not why would they create human lain ?

I understand a bit more thanks.

At that point Evil Lain was probably under Eiri's control, sorry I forgot about that.

Tachibana Lab's motivations are never even hinted at, if they started it after Eiri's suicide maybe it was a safety measure against him. If it was before maybe they detected the 'noise' in the wired and wanted to give it a host, kind of a "For Science!" reason I guess.

How would that work when the purpose of lain was to destroy the barrier between the wired and the real world ?
> If it was before maybe they detected the 'noise' in the wired and wanted to give it a host, kind of a "For Science!" reason I guess.
I can understand that but again Lain has a clear purpose it seems.
Why would tachibana labs want to destroy the barrier real world/wired when they fired Eiri for wanting exactly that ?
I really don't get this part.

In the game Lain is building a fabrication of her dad's torso to house his AI ghost in after he leaves her (this dad is apparently different than the one from the show). She uses this puppet to try and simulate a loving parent since everyone has abandoned her. This is an image I pasted together from one of the videos of her doing the act she's talking about. That wording just makes it sound a lot more sexual than it is. She even talked about how giving the puppet any kind of lower half would just be "weird" and "creepy" and she really just needed a ribcage to hug.

Anyone want to share their thoughts on the game by the way? Lain seemed a lot more oddly malicious and prominently evil in it than in the anime or manga, she has a remarkable body count that builds up from her actions. The scene of her
committing suicide by shakily shoving a gun in her mouth
was deeply disturbing to me. I'm surprised it overall managed to be even more emotional than the show. I wish more "games" went with the concept of sifting through the files of dead people's computers to figure out what happened. It was incredibly enticing the whole read through.

It's ok.

It's called Lain's "persona" so I imagine it was supposed to be a cartoony, romanticized image Lain used for videogames and social things online. It's far less modern and realistic than the Lain we're used to but I think it's an accurate depiction of how a girl her age would project herself online. At least when she's not serious "wired" Lain. I actually like it quite a bit. Its not bad, just different. Though the game focused on how creative and crafty Lain was so I imagine it is jarring just coming from the anime.

Ok, I'm sorry if this sounds too retarded, but this is how I poorly understood it. Lain is a software who was installed on a some sort of android (the real Lain who is active in a real world) and her whole family are just actors or employes of the company who owns her. Another version of her was also installed on the Wired (the bad Lain), there she is worshiped by the Knights who are some sort of network hacking cult. Please correct me on those, how many Lains are there? How did Lain brake the barrier between real world and the Wired? What even the Wired is? Who were those men in black? What was their agenda? Who was Eiri, was he also just a software? What happened at the end, did Lain turn back time? If not how was the girl who committed suicide in ep1 alive then? What happened to Lain, where is she now? I hope she is not alone and sad :( . I'm sorry to ask so much, but I really want to understand it better.

that's a lot of questions.

>what is Lain?
Lain is a program used to combine the wired and the real world to further the evolution of mankind. It's implied her body is cloned, not mechanical. Due to the fact she is in a way a god, she's able to be omnipresent by existing separately within the consciousness of anyone who has observed her. this means that there are potentially infinite Lains, each one being a different way she is perceived both in reality and within the wired. There are 3 Lains shown in the series. Childish Lain, Advanced Lain, and Evil Lain.

>what is the wired?
The wired is an elaboration of the pre-existing internet. It's a digital network that has tapped into the Schumann resonance, an electromagnetic field earth is constantly radiating IRL. In Lain it's theorized that this field is a network destined to turn humanity into a hive-mind. This is why people can access the wired even without a physical body. It's the very basis of higher consciousness.

>who are the knights, the men in black, and Tachibana labs
I'm kind of fuzzy on this one, someone correct me if I say anything wrong here.
The knights are a team of computer hackers, they don't necessarily care about Lain's well being but do advocate Lain merging the wired with the real world. The Men in black are scared of the merging of the worlds, they hunt down and kill the Knights and sabotage Lain's "purpose". Tachibana Labs created Lain and assembled her fake family(s)

>How did Lain break the barrier between the real world and the wired
Lain was created as a being who exists equally within both worlds. This is how she already had a presence on the wired even before getting a computer, in the game it also states she accesses the wired accidentally while dreaming or when she's in the presence of electricity. As her corporeal and wired forms overlapped and merged more and more so did the two worlds. This is the most abstract thing in the series so it's hard to answer.

>Who is Eiri?
Eiri is a self proclaimed god. He was part of the original project that allowed computers to tap into the schumann resonance and thus the wired. Though whenever he wrote the program he gave himself immense levels of power above all other beings in hopes of becoming a god. He's fired because of this and kills himself to join the wired. Lain shows that he is not truly a god because he has almost no power outside of the wired unlike her.

>What happened at the end?
Lain retroactively kept Eiri's projects from coming to fruition, thus the wired and everything related to it. This is why all of the people who killed themselves to join the wired are still alive, the cyberia kids are normal children, Alice lives a happy life etc. This also makes it so nobody has ever actually perceived Lain and so she is rid of all her duplicates and can live freely without constraint all on her own.

>Where is Lain now?
Lain after changing the passage of time freed herself of any limitations and restrictions and now acts as an observing "God" acting through all forms of technology and physicality.

If anyone wants to correct me on anything I've said, go ahead, and if you want me to try and elaborate more on anything else I can.

That's a really weird scene admittedly.

In the series they repeatedly make reference to the Roswell UFO crash as being a case where truth did not matter, only the perception of the event did. Even if a ufo never crashed there the effect it had on culture and media meant it might as well of just because everyone treated it that way. This is a parallel to whenever Lain changes everyone's memories so that they never remember the rumors pertaining to Alice. Even if the rumors were true and she did have an affair with the teacher, in the minds of absolutely everyone involved it did not happen and in a way it really never happened nobody remembers it. The alien scene happens shortly before Lain wipes her existence from everyone's memory so I guess it's just really bizarre foreshadowing.
