matoi gon get it now...
>>2550655
Did anyone else feel ambivalent towards ryuko when they first started watching the show?
Objective Satsuki bias aside, I just couldn't feel interested in matoi's affairs; a lot of the episodes concerning the elite 4 just felt better at some points
>>2550655
Fresh out of the oven
>>2550658
Kind of the opposite, I liked Ryuko from the start but then Satsuki came in, kept growing on me and made me a believer, by the end I couldn't help but think 'man, they chose the wrong person to be MC'.
>>2550658
I firstly rooted for Ryuuko but later on she seemed to be pretty bland comapred to Satsuki, she is just typical shonen MC, not less not more, nothing extraordinary that will make her more likeable than Satsuki, she was literally handholded through series, given the most powerful tool of fiber destruction and revealaed to be chosen one, who would not shine with such sort of thing in stock?
>>2551129
>>2551130
>>2551129
That makes so much sense, and I have to agree. It seems like they mixed something up with Ryuko, Satsuki, and maybe Nui.
Ryuko was strong at the start due to what seemed like a strong will, but she has nothing on Satsuki. Then Ryuko gets Senketsu, and you realize Satsuki's not using anything but her sword and her skill. Then it turns out Ryuko is fucking blended with waifu fibers, and Satsuki pretty much matches her power despite being a normal human.
Ryuko just becomes less and less relatable, and thus less admirable to me, as the series develops. I much prefer Ryuko's design and tomboyish personality, but in terms of plot, we can all relate to Satsuki because she's a normal human who worked hard to develop her skills - skills that can overcome an alien enemy with every advantage.
Shouldn't that have been Ryuko if she's supposed to be the main protagonist? I'd even argue that her waifu fibers do more harm than good. If the point is supposed to be that human+kamui (life fibers) working together is stronger than just one, Ryuko having strength by virtue of internal life fibers makes that relationship less necessary and meaningful.
tl;dr it should be "Despite all the enemy's power, Ryuko's strong will and bond with Senketsu overcame the odds."
Instead it's, "Despite all Ryuko's innate power and bond with Senketsu, it sure took a lot of goddamn effort to win."
...I totally did not mean to write that much.
>>2551336
>>2551234
>Instead it's, "Despite all Ryuko's innate power and bond with Senketsu, it sure took a lot of goddamn effort to win."
Funny thing that it's not Ryuuko who won in the end but Senketsu, gathering all fiber strengh and devouring Shnra Koketsu. Even after obtaining all this power she could not deliver a single noteworthy stab to Ragyo.
>>2551376
I like Ryuko so I wouldn't want for it to become a hatefest but she was quite an underwhelming protagonist and still couldn't quite deliver at the end. Meanwhile like >>2551234 says, Satsuki kept up against all these very powerful people out of sheer determination. And from a narrative perspective Ryuko's original arc kinda was done halfway through the story (claiming to want to know about her father's death) after that it really was just "oh these people are villains so I guess I better stop them now, except that I'm going to switch sides for a little bit". Meanwhile, the whole story, even Ryuko's part in it was kind of Satsuki's life work.
>>2551642
Well I like her as well, she is pretty cute, energetic and determined girl, I expected a lot from her but it was pretty disappointing and cause of it mostly her being amaturish and mentally unstable, first going berserk mode after Nui revealing herself and then betraying everyone just because she learnt her origins and making enemy to take control over her. That just not what you expect from MC but overall she was pretty much okay, for shonen MC.

>>2551234
Anyway, I liked your points regarding the nature of Satsuki's relatability and Matoi's peculiar relationship with something that's literally woven into her physical being.
What Trigger did concerning the "main protagonist" was pretty neat; Satsuki was the major driving force behind the plot (with a few exceptions here and there) while Matoi pretty much only existed as the perfect weapon to combat Ragyo.

Ryukofag here, with all due respect you guys are just watching the show from Satsuki's perspective where winning and losing against the life fibers is the end result. But that wasn't it, Ryuko's bond with Senketsu was the end result. I know you're thinking that's what you said, but think about every time Ryuko and Satsuki fight. Who wins those fights? No one, the result is always ambiguous and irrelevant. The important thing is Ryuko realizes Senketsu was reaching out to her and learns what it really means to wear him; Ryuko gives in to her weakness and consequently hurts Senketsu; Ryuko realizes wearing Senketsu is her true desire and drive rather than chasing ghosts while Satsuki declares what she's proposing is a fairy tale; Satsuki comes to accept Ryuko's way and even though she has no way of knowing what he's thinking trusts in Senketsu. The story is always the relationship between Ryuko and Senketsu and the fight with the life fibers is always just the setting. Even the last "fight" against Ragyo isn't a fight, Ryuko and Senketsu make some last minute epiphanies about each other and then Ragyo and the life fibers just give up.
I sympathize with you guys, because there's no memo anywhere that KLK isn't really much of an action show and Satsuki is a very outwardly cool character who seemingly represent that action, but it's a skewed perspective.
>>2552999
>Making first half of show about bonds with Senketsu
>Making second half of show about bonds with Senketsu as well
This show was not about bonds, it was about gags and fights, later TRIGGER decided that it would've be nice idea to scrap shit load of concepts and add meaningless "symbolism" and "depth" for one particular character ruining everything else, maybe before rebellion it was story about Ryuuko and her hardships against the world and trying to find truth about her father and herself but second part was about struggle against life fibers and saving the world, everyone should've be involved and relevant alas only Ryuuko had chance to shine, that what causes frustration and feeling of "injustice", since the story was satisfying only for ones who rooted for Ryuuko from the beginning to the end. Nobody watched show for "depth" and "bonds" everyone did this for entertaiment and denying fact that this show estabilished itself as pure entertaiment from the very beginning is something I'd call "skewed perspective". TRIGGER did good job at first part but watching second part I had a feeling that they had no idea what they were doing at all.
>>2553021
>TRIGGER did good job at first part but watching second part I had a feeling that they had no idea what they were doing at all
The second half was originally supposed to be completely different, something involving Ryuko being captured by Ragyo. They scrapped that and re-wrote it, that's why there was that 2 week wait after episode 12. The second half was so rushed and they were so strapped for time, that the last episode was still having the finishing touches applied mere hours before it was supposed to air.
>>2553021
Kill la Kill was like a car.
Ryuko and Senketsu's bond was the engine, Satsuki and general Kiryuin Dickery was the fuel, the life fiber plot was the body of the car, the gags and fights were the paint job, Mako was the air freshener. You're mad you bought a car based on the cool flames painted on it, instead of what was inside, but I still think it's a pretty good car.
>>2553024
That's complete nonsense. There was a prison arc (Ryuko captured by Nudist Beach not Ragyo, framed for killing Aikuro with The Bullet) between the elections and the field trip that was cut, not an entire second half of the show. It's a shame they had to cut it, but it probably only would've hurt the show seeing as they were rushing as is.

>You're mad
I'm not even slightly mad, I enjoyed KLK and it is one of my favorite shows of all time.

If they will ever bring up S2 it should be a story of entirely different character which will eventually involve Scissor Sisters & crew in action but it also will need some kind of bullshit to turn fibers on and revive kamuis, since without Senketsu + Junketsu combo it won't be KLK anymore.
>>2559451
Oh no, the cheap SEGA one. Still though, looks nice at the very top of my cabinet; a fitting place ~
>>2559707
I see what you mean... I used to want some sort of spinoff documenting the early years of Satsuki and the Elite Four; I think the flashbacks were some of the most well-directed and engaging scenes in the series. But I realize that their brief nature is what makes them so alluring.
