OR here. Damn fucking nice, dude. This is the best shit I've seen in a long while. Well done!
Why does Tomoko hate herself when she's actually a good person deep down?
>>2524661
A lot of people would say the complete opposite(narcissistic, terrible person), but I think Tomoko's character is too complex to be pitted in a simple good/bad dichotomy. This is exactly what makes her such an original and profound character in recent anime. You just can not look at her one-dimensionally. I think about Tomoko's personality daily, and I think she's a truly one of a kind person that shows strong sings of innate creativity and genius, but she's too modest to admit it herself or show it to other people.
I'm the artfag who made these drawings of Tomoko you see in /c/ sometimes. To be honest, when I think about it, I did them to honor of that rarely-shown romantic side of Tomoko's personality.
>>2524661
She shows many signs of avoidant personality disorder which is why I feel so connected to her.
>>2524712
>shows strong sings of innate creativity and genius, but she's too modest to admit it herself or show it to other people.
I don't see that in her at all.
>>2524756
It's true that there's no hard evidence for that(and I'm likely projecting because I'm just as neurotic and insufferable as her, so shoot me down), but consider that:
-She daydreams constantly, showing her idealistic desires(school club chapter, or that she often wants to be seen as hip and cool in the eyes of her peers). To her the possibilities of an ideal world are more important than coping with the real one. She also has a much different way of looking at things than other people.
-She wants to be Lil' Miss Cool, and someone liked because of how unique and different she is. That's why she stepped on that cockroach, tried her hand at composing music, thought up unique custom introductions for class, is the #1 player in the Magic club, wears(imo) very fashionable and distinctive clothes, etc.
-Every time she thinks of a plan for even trivial things, like avoiding her classmates, in her mind she diligently prepares every tiniest detail(pic related, disguising to get away from a WcDonald's, peeping chapter, the entirety of the Kii-chan arc).
-She is very romantic-driven, even to the point of self-destruction. The train molestation and red light district chapters are good indications of that, and at one point tried to travel home on bike adventurously(even bothering to wake up early and write a sappy and dramatic letter to Kii-chan). And the chapter before the Baseball match where she consciously rebels by staying in late, despite being fully aware it is a dumb descision. And other times she prides on herself being a lone wolf, or tries being emotionless, because it gives her romantic points.
-Amazingly contemplative and insightful, even empathic. See the graduation ceremony chapter or the chapter where she's watching anime with an adult salesman.
-The fanbook says her favourite subjects are arts and literature, and that her ambition is to win a writing award for novelists.
>>2525083
Put these all together and you get this poor, neurotic person that craves love and human contact, but doesn't like and fears what the world offers to her, and yet marches forward wanting to retain her face, individuality, and worldview in spite of it. She is painfully aware she is very different from the rest of the world, knows deep down she has something unique to offer back to it, but fears that society will misunderstand and punish her, as it had so many times before.
Or maybe I'm losing my mind.
>>2525353
D'aww
>>2525083

>To her the possibilities of an ideal world are more important than coping with the real one.
That's kinda dubious, but in general terms you could say that she sometimes confuses how the world works with how she thinks it does. Sometimes she's very idealistic, sure, but other times she's bitterly and irrationally cynical (see: the incident with the boys in the bus stop with the umbrella). Don't forget that, I'd say that's just as important as her irrational idealism.
>and someone liked because of how unique and different she is
I mean, she wants to be "popular" for just about ANY reason. That's why she does EVERYTHING she does, which is why every single chapter is called "I'm not popular, so I'll _____," even when that doesn't always quite fit. That's just me nitpicking, though, and one of my favorite pages is the one where her classmate remembers her introduction joke from the year before, where she was clearly really, really happy that somebody liked it.
I think you're pretty right on most of this. She's pretty damn neurotic and some psychologists think that there's a correlation with that and creativity. And there are plenty of times where she makes up some ridiculous stories off the top of her head. It's just that she hasn't really found her niche yet. So no, I don't think you're quite crazy(or at least you're not wrong). Where can I get my hands on that fanbook, though?
>>2525374
>and one of my favorite pages is the one where her classmate remembers her introduction joke from the year before, where she was clearly really, really happy that somebody liked it.
I fucking loved that scene. It clearly shows how much it meant to her and that she just wants to be appreciated. Thanks on your input too, btw. Tomoko is so damn fascinating.
>Where can I get my hands on that fanbook, though?
It's long, it's in Japanese, and it has never been scanned or translated. However the Japanese webmaster of the Watamote fansite translated some snippets of it(mostly character bios and interviews), and you can find Tomoko's bio here:

>Type of women you want to be: cool woman who other women also consider her cool
Never change, Moko.
>>2525083
I think you have low standards for what creative genius is.
Literally my favorite picture of Tomoko
>>2525612
I could barely tell it was her.
Why is she wearing a cross, of all things?
>>2525671
Tomoko is gonna find Jesus, calling it right now.
One of my therapists once told me that depressed people only show immediate improvement for two reasons: finding God, and making the decision to kill themselves. I thought that was funny in a morbid way.
>>2525671
Nihonjins don't regard Christianity as anything other than a wealth of symbols and good times, they celebrate Christmas without really being Christian and just think crosses are this fashionable thing(see EVA).
>>2525769
is this some kinda fetish thing
I mean, I know it is, but can I get a confirmation on that
>>2525700
Was a good therapist? I am wary of religious ones.
By the way I think an ankh would be more appropriate for Tomoko.
>>2526181
They did say that was the only way to "immediate" improvement...
>>2525671
Because she's our angel.
>>2526181
>>2526185
Not my blog of course, but since you asked...
In context I was talking about a religious friend of mine who struggled with bipolar disorder that would usually credit God for helping her recover from the low points when the 'depressive' part of 'manic depressive' kicked in.
I did see a church-funded psychologist but only once. The first session is always a 'getting to know you' deal, they never offer solutions on the first date. Maybe he was planning to drop the "Well, have you tried accepting Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior?" (which I did, didn't help) bomb at a later date, who knows.
>>2522434

Because Christian Moko-chan is cute.
What is Tomoko doing?

I don't know what you mean by "mascot," but it's cute
>>2521502
>>2527207
What do you call those skirts that Tomoko wears for her school uniform and why don't real girls wear 'em?
>>2527773
the skirts are just skirts, but they're part of a uniform called seifuku
>>2527776
I believe seifuku only applies to uniforms that look like sailor uniforms.
>>2527715
You need to have the appchan plugin to see how these work. Essentially it gives you an avatar of whichever character you like and places it on the right edge of the screen. There's a wide selection of default avatars, but you can also make your own.
>>2527553
Thanks for making it into a mascot anon.
>>2527790
you might be right. idk the name then...
Would you ever consider fapping to Tomoko-san?

W-what happened? She finally became poplar?

That's the honorific you'd use for an acquaintance. Someone you don't really know and don't care about. At all. (AFAIK. Not a nipponjin.)

I want Tomoko to be my cat.
She's an arrogant dick, but it's so cute to watch her follow her weird logic. She'd meow awkwardly and drop her spaghetti when she wants to be pet, and then poke you in the face for being a weirdo.
Then I grab her and make her wear cute dresses until she scowls at me.
Happy Thanksgiving Tomokobros.
>>2538947
And same to you.
