Yeah, I can definitely get down with that plan. When you bring up the idea of waiting a few years to consolidate my debts, I can definitely understand the reasoning behind it, it just worries me because my girlfriend and I have plans for a family once she is finished with college and I think I'd rather take the chance now and not in a couple years while either trying to have or raise a child.

Work always comes first and foremost. Running a business with the intention on making profit is the point of being a business owner, is it not? It just so happens that, with my background, food, alcohol, coffee, and board games are my specialty.

I have seen some of the hobby stores in my hometown come and go, mostly due to the fact that there are about three with a loyal customer base, but those places cater to the typical basement dweller types. My hope is to entertain those who enjoy being a little more social when it comes to their games.

There's a board game bar in Chattanooga Tennessee, where I used to live. It's working okay though.

You gotta sell that alcohol though, or you wont make shit. Gotta have like a 3 drink minimum or some shit.

I would visit that bar in TN, to get some ideas before you sink a bunch of money on this idea.

It could work in a college town I think.

I've seen 7 of these up and down in my city of $1M in a decade. Not a one has lasted more than 5 years.

One bar runs a hardcore fighting game tournament every Wednesday. everyone brings their own consoles.

Focus on being a good business then maybe run a theme night for the cheetos and mountain dew crowd.
Also many of these folks games are being digitized.

Make sure you approach the business as a lounge/cafe first. If your repeat customers can create a better environment at home to play board games, for cheaper, they will. If another lounge/cafe can provide a better environment for board games, why would they go to yours?

This can do well if you have the market to support it. In Montreal we have 2-3 of these types of places and they are restricted to 18+ (I think Saturday and Sunday early day is family time), past 5, it becomes 18+.

From the one time I went there it was packed. If you weren't ordering food or drinking (which almost everyone was), for each member on your table you were charged an 8$ fee.

Cocktails were about 11$, a pitcher ~24$, and a pint of beer was about 7,50$.

Seating capacity was about 100 people (upstairs and main floor)
