I could retire off of that much right now (barring taxes the sum may be subject to). With even a 4% return you'd see 20k a year, and that's enough to live on if it's just you. For me that would be living like a king. My advice is chuck it into an index fund and find something you enjoy to do for money as a fallback/to augment it. Really once you have that much as a single person though you should be set.

Shove a good chunk into something that produces. Land, maybe. Or a semi truck and trailer so you can retire, driving around the united stated picking up cool shit and souvenirs on the road and selling it in major cities using a smartphone app or Craigslist, just living like a rambling wanderer. You won't gain a lot of job experience, but you'll get to see a lot and maybe get at the personal side of the USA.

From just five minutes of research I can tell that they can probably rebound from the energy crisis going on right now.

They have one of the largest drilling fleets in the world, have two to three years of working capital left, and they're not frantically scrapping off their fleet yet.

I would have to say that it'll probably be a good stock to pick up, as this energy lull will probably become a bull market in the next two to three years, in which the company has the working capital to maintain.
