>Left decent paying Ops Manager job in Mining for study at a mid-level university
>6 months in it all seems like a giant wank

Depends on the program and your career goals. Top tier MBA gets you access to certain jobs and companies you would not otherwise have. Shit tier MBAs can be useful if you are stuck in a job where an MBA from anywhere is required to progress.

I'm afraid that once I get it my work experience in supply chain management won't mean anything and I'll have this degree but be seen as having no relevant experience in industries other than mining.

Was in a low tier management position with nowhere to go unless I got educated. Couldn't see myself juggling full time work and study so I quit and begun full time study. I'm starting to think this was a bad move.

Which school are you at? I'm in an MBA program (taking a break from cramming finance right now) and for some roles companies are recruiting for I could definitely see a background in supply chain management as a big plus.

Also career switching is a common reason to go get an MBA and having no relevant experience is not deterring any of my classmates from pursuing jobs that they want.

Swinburne. Bit iffy on how their MBA is perceived eh.

That's good to hear.

No knowledge of Australian MBAs unfortunately, only American ones.

How is the recruiting situation there? If you have companies you want to work for coming on campus to recruit, then you're a big part of the way there. Then it's just a ton of networking.

I'll have to check it out. I'm pretty sure they have a career services department. My forethought didn't go as far as the next step, beyond 'get another job'.
>>

Yeah, take some time to be introspective and figure out what kind of roles and lifestyle you want, and then figure out which companies offer those roles. Then pursue those jobs like crazy.

It does sound like the MBA program might be a bit hamstrung in the recruiting department - I couldn't find an employment report at all for it and it sounds like companies don't come on campus specifically for MBA students. So you'll have to do the recruiting more your own - not impossible but more legwork is required.

Thanks for the advice.

Get an mba with a logistics focus.

I know SLU has one. Boeing is paying for mine.
