Hey /biz/
I'm trying to make 1.4K (to buy a laptop) by the end of next month. I'm on a 9.50/hr minimum wage which will take me months to get to 1.4K
I haven't been with my current bank long enough yet to do loans.

Help me /biz/, how do I make my quota by the end of next month?
>>
online poker. GAMBLE NIGGA
>>
>>968756
Have you considered the possibility that, if you're only making $9.5/hr, perhaps you can't afford a $1.4k laptop?
>>
>>968811
I honestly have nothing else I need to buy/pay for so...
I'm getting more deeper into network security and need it.
>>
>>968814

Thank you anon

So you're saying that you don't spend any of your money? Then it'll take you 2-3 months of saving, no big deal. You can wait.

If that's not the case. Consider spending less. Eat rice and beans. Literally only rice and beans. You'll save $195 a month and lose some weight, fatass.

Or, even better. How about the possibility that you don't NEED a 1.4k laptop. a $650 laptop will do the same shit.

Hey, if your "network security" pays off, you'll be able to buy a $3k laptop in no-time, right?
>>
>>968756
For what do you need a $1.4k laptop?

Can you tell me for what purpose? Because I use a $200 laptop and it runs everything perfectly:
Webdev, programming, watching videos, posting on shitty websites like 4chan, sysadmin shit, everything really besides gayming.
>>
>>968823
Yeah but right now I have a part time job with the salary of a mcdonalds worker

>>968824
Running multiple virtual machines i.e Ubuntu, Fedora, Windows, and a Mac at the same time. So I guess you could say virtualization.
>>
>>968827
>Running multiple virtual machines i.e Ubuntu, Fedora, Windows, and a Mac at the same time

Why would you ever need to do that?

Why can't you run one at a time and limit it to 1gb ram usage? You can run it fine even with a 2nd gen i5
>>
>>968832
Needing to run multiple different tasks, testing different traffic sniffing techniques, etc.
>>
>>968833
Sounds retarded. Why would you ever need to do all those at once

Why use a laptop for that instead of a workstation PC?
>>
>>968835
Well cause I need to see the outcome in real-time, testing multiple things at once increases productivity. Also I like the mobility of a PC.
>>
>>968842

>testing multiple things at once increases productivity

I'm sure it will make up for the extra 150 man hours that you need to make up the difference between that and an affordable PC.

> Also I like the mobility of a PC.

I assume you mean laptop here. The fact that you want a laptop despite clamoring about the need for a work system is silly. Laptops are going to be overpriced and undergunned simply due to design. You can't overclock them easily, and due to thermals their GPUs and CPUs tend to be lower voltage and run at lower clocks.

The fact that you like "mobility" doesn't mean shit unless you NEED it. Is this a work system, or something that you just want to fuck around on?

Do you have any IT certifications? Something like Security+ or Network+/CCENT? If not, you are better off applying somewhere like Geek Squad and getting A+. There is no such thing as an entry level network security job without a good CV, certs, and often a degree.
>>
>>968842
Bullshit.

Just buy a workstation PC and save like $1000... You don't need to throw your money away when you're obviously having trouble with money in the first place.

I use a 4 year old piece of shit $400 desktop and a $200 laptop, and it works PERFECTLY for everything I need to do, kind of lacking enough ram for virtualization but it's notthat big of a deal for me.

You're earning minimum wage yet you need "the most kewlest leetest" laptop for network memeurity? I don't get it. It's clearly not your job, so why do you need to be so professional with it?
>>
>>968856
Going for my OSCP soon.
CEH is shit; only reason I'd get my CEH is to get to LPT.

>>968861
Cause I'm a very picky person.
>>
>>968867
>Cause I'm a very picky person.

Well you're going to either have to cut down on your expectations and use something that makes sense economically or start sucking dicks.

What do you even ise the VMs for if it's not your job? Do you just sniff your own and others' networks?
>>
>>968868
Basically I install different OS's(windows 7/8/10, Ubuntu, Debian, Fedora, etc) and try to break into them using various settings from time to time.
>>
>>968876
And why do you need to do this on the go with a laptop?

Just buy a used Workstation PC for a few hundred, don't be silly. You obviously cannot afford to buy something so expensive so why spend all your savings from a few months on it?
>>
>>968877
>on the go
I spend 12+ hours a day on my laptop/infront of a screen.
I mainly use laptops as a desktop replacement
>>
>>968756
OP is a cock guzzling faggot. "Picky" is just another term for "Overpays".
>>
>>968880

If you spend 12 hours a day in front of a computer, then it seems like a better idea to get a real computer. The advantages of a multi-monitor set-up alone is massive if you are doing any sort of IT work.

Though, to be honest, your prior statements make little sense to me:

>I haven't been with my current bank long enough yet to do loans.

It sounds like you are going to fall into a potentially nasty trap. Stuff like your credit rating and work history are actually vital for IT positions, which are competitive, especially security positions. The vast majority of security firms and departments are going to be looking for 5 years of IT experience at a minimum.

How many years total working experience do you have in IT?
>>
>>968893
true and I'm impatient
>>
>>968893
>OP is a cock guzzling faggot. "Picky" is just another term for "Overpays".

Very profitable for kikes like Alienware and other memes that make very overpriced laptops :^)

>Mfw retards buy $1k+ desktops to browse facebook and read memes on reddit
>>
>>968895
None right now LOL! But I have a friend that works at First Tech FCU that put a good word in for me. I may start a paid internship this coming summer.

Unfortunately, stuff wont sell super fast so you might not get all the cash you want by the end of the month, but you'll make more than minimum wage.
>>
>>968911
Eh I make almost 300 a month

Call of Duty doesn't count as network security kiddo.

Never said it did.
Talking about reverse DNS traffic rerouting, advanced dynamic code profiling for buffer overflows, advanced cryptographic algorithms for TCP/IP, etc.
>>
>>968998
oh look he had to google some "network security" terms to mention lmao
>>
>>969008
Please show me where I googled. Please show me the page.
>>
>>969022
It doesn't matter because you don't need a $1 400 laptop to do that stuff.

What are even the specs of this "magical" laptop that you need so much?

Be honest, do you want it because of the kewl alienware logo and flashy lights?
>>
>>969025
The "flashy lights" and "design" are a bonus.

16 GB, 2TB Hard Drive, 26GB SSD, etc. I don't really care about the graphics since I won't use it for gaming.
>>
Tech advice: Build your own server and get a cheap laptop. Both will cost you less and more suited to their purposes. Buying a laptop for more "power" is bullshit, and you can build your own small server for pretty cheap, especially for your needs.

Money advice: Stop being poor and go buy some kneepads.
>>
>>969029
"etc"?

What processor, why 16gb of ram, I'm going to assume that's a typo but i'm not sure what size ssd you might have meant, or even which SSD.
>>
>>969034
6thgen i7 quad core
>>
>>969034
16GB because some of the VM's I run require 3-5GB of RAM
>>
>>969037
>6thgen i7

Why? What do you even need multithreading for?

You realize you could build all this for like <$500 with an ivy bridge i5?

2tb hard drive for storing 1.8tb of gay porn? I use a 500gb and 250gb hdd on my desktop and both are barely full. Wtf are you storing on there, backups of every website you've visited?
>>
>>969043
Cause the multithreading helps my host machine run the VM's faster;
2TB of Hard drive; I download lots of different operating systems/iso's lol. Plus I like the space.
>>
If it wasn't obvious a few hours ago, it should be obvious now that OP is a fool. Please let this thread die.
>>
>>969044
Well you better get started earning some money if you want to buy it by the end of the month!

Sitting on 4chan won't get you there any faster!
>>
>>969047
I know. Selling a few stuff. I don't mind waiting a little more like a few months, I just don't want to be waiting 6 months. Obviously I can compromise a few things and make it cheaper though.
>>
>>968835

You're an absolute idiot. When doing labs it's more than likely that'll you'll need a few VMs running.
>>
>>969060
Yeah, I'm running labs a lot so I need the extra RAM.
