The only way mining has been profitable since 2015 without hundreds of thousands outlay is mining coins no one has heard of before they take off.
The most I have ever made mining was mining Mona 3 years ago and holding until now.

I was mining 1 ETH per day with that rig. Today, with the same rig I would be lucky to mine 3 eth per month.

Use the money to purchase ETH directly and forget about it.

Mining is still profitable, if only at a lower rate.
Remember that the market is nowhere near saturated and has plenty of room to grow, and coins you're mining WILL grow.
