Poker discussion.
What format(s) do you play? how's it going?
>>
>>1764227
what program is this, can i use it in online poker?
>>
>>1766166
it's card runners ev, you use it to analyze hands, can't be used to during play, for study only.
>>
>grind micro stakes on Ignition for a couple hours
>make like 20 bucks
>withdrawal funds so I can buy some weeb game

Feels pretty good to be a professional online poker player
>>
>>1764227
I play at my local casino. Make my money at night fucking over drunks playing Hold'em. Sometimes I like to spend an afternoon playing seven card stud with the old timers but that doesn't pay the bills.
>>
Any recommended resources to learn to grind?
>>

I play 6max cg. Not been going well recently desu. Used to make a living out of it playing 0,5/1 and 1/2, kinda of stopped for a while to travel and get a degree. Started playing again a few month back and I have a tough time getting back where I was, bankroll melted because life expenses and have been loosing quite a lot. Back playing 0,25/0,50...

Depends what format, I like applications of holdem. I usually just consult my database, been reading pokerstratergy though some good articles.

Watch people play on twitch, like tonkaaap or jcarver. It won't really teach you how to grind micro stakes, since neither of them play micro stakes, but it'll teach you how to think about poker differently. Most importantly though, you have to ask yourself why you're doing what you're doing when you play. Like, if you bet in a certain spot, ask yourself if your opponent is ever calling with worse than what you have, or folding with better, and how often is he doing this? Is it often enough for betting to be a good move? Also keep in mind that micro stakes players tend to call bets when they really shouldn't be, so bluffing is almost never a good idea.
>>
Also Nananoko pretty good streamer for grinding though he plays more mtts nowadays

I was a small stakes profession in casinos years back. My hourly at 1/2 was around 25$. That was playing 40 hours a week. Now a days I mostly only play during prime time, Friday and Saturday nights. At the same stakes my hourly is closer to 20$. The games aren't nearly as juicy as they once were, and I'm not playing as well as I used too. I don't study or play online anymore.(which is huge for getting better) In my prime I ate, drank, and breathed poker. But still, 20 bucks an hour tax free a couple times a week is nothing to shake a stick at for a no degree no work ethic scumbag like me.
>>
Also,I read a lot of books 10 years ago, but for more updated stuff I recommend Dynamic Full Ring Poker: Beyond the Basics By James "Splitsuit" Sweeney for 10max casino style games. He has a bunch of poker videos as well that are free that I highly recommend.

you can be sure pro online players use programs to analyze the hands real time.
they also have strategies about where to play in what duration like "in this area at 4-5am young drunken fools after partying through the night sit down to play some poker" etc...

i got into poker during the moneymaker boom and played on stars until black friday

i have friends with insane graphs and i have friends that have literally killed themselves due to debts

everyone is staked and barely anyone makes money

in 2017 the games are incredibly tough and the variance will want you to quit. real life MTTs have decent earnings potential but have even more variance

you missed the boat playing poker unless it gets legalized in the US

look at 2p2, once a bastion of activity is now a shell of its former self

watching twitch is a waste of your time, most of those people are losing players or are sponsored to play by the big sites

i'm also convinced that there's now more bots than ever and organized crime has taken over the game sucking out $$

but yeah go play a game that's dead
>>
>>1769701
>le poker is dead meme
This just plain isn't true. You're probably a nit playing against nits in $50NL
>>
>>1769822
This, it's much harder to make big money now and I guess that's why people say it, but online poker is far from dead, in fact China is having a massive poker boom right now that'll make people not really care about the US market not rejoining.
>>1769677
Yeah some do but the big rooms have pretty good detection software, and yeah that's pretty much always been a stratergy, play 2/5nl on ipoker evenings on a friday it's pretty much spew-town.
>>
>>1769822
did my post read as someone who has ever played 50NL? fuck off idiot

i played 200NL 6 max, and mainly played mid-high MTTs last year when i got back into the game

nice projection though
>>
>>1769701
Every twitch player mentioned in this thread is a winning play before sponsorship/twitch money.
>>
>>1769872
tonka is fine, sure

it's still entertainment though, not really in-depth
>>
>>1769878
Yeah well desu twitch is just to get fish into the game imo, maybe they see it differently, but that's why rooms pay them anyway. I dunno why you'd wanna give your HH away to literally anybody though..
>>
Poker isn't viable as a lifelong career IMO. But I did spend a few years ( 24-29 ) travelling the world and playing live poker. Live games are far softer and I always lived in tourist hotspots so there would always be new people ready to go.

Online isn't anywhere near as soft. I hesitate to say that the average person ( even with enough time and training ) could make it worth their while.

Although making 3-5k usd a month when your total expenses are 1-2k a month is pretty good money. If I ever get bored of salaried life I'll probably go back to full time poker.

Note: poker isn't something you just pick up and make money with. I lost a solid $7000ish in the first year of playing( and learning ) poker. Once I actually knew what I was doing I was pulling in enough money to keep me happy. It wasn't for the money, it was for the lifestyle. Moving to a new country every 3-6 months and making all your money with cards is a fun way to spend your youth.

Good post, fair points.
>>
My hourly rate these days is not good enough to continue playing poker for a living. I'd have to grind like a madman to make it worthwhile and now that I'm 30 I just can not be bothered to put in these hours. If online poker ever comes back to the US and they join the global player pool again, I will consider getting into it again.
