He doesn't even care about making profit. His patents are open source. He's not a businessman.

None of his companies are in a profitable sector. Tesla isn't even considered an automobile manufacturer. Investing in solar at any point in the last 20 years has been a huge joke. And his other company isn't even public, nor worried about making profit.
