Don't know how it works in US but in Sweden you earn 2 days vacation for every month worked. If they're not used by the worker the employer must pay it in cash

Check your bank account for any transactions in 2016. Paychecks are in arrears so you're being paid for the previous 2 weeks. Hence, payment for the last 2 weeks of December are received in January of the following year.

As previously mentioned here, if it wasn't a paycheck it may have been for unused vacation or a bonus.
