How do I become financially well off (or at least have a decent job) if my family has no contacts to an industry? I'm doomed right?
Current residency is Germany.

To add to that, I actually run a business in Germany. It's really not that hard if you know what you're doing.
Let's say we consider €80k a year as a decent, upper class salary. There are currently 15 people in my company earning above €80k a year. There are 180 people working for me in total but we can discount 100 of the right of the bat because they're working in professions with very clearly defined salary caps (factory workers, part-timejobs ect.).
Out of those 80 left, 25 are still too young and/or inexperienced to warrant such a salary, so we're left with 15 out of 55 people getting a very decent salary, that's close to 30%. Out of those 40 who don't earn that much, I don't see anybody who is skilled or intelligent enough to warrant such a high salary.
So, if you go for any career job there's about a 30% chance you will end up with an upper class salary, the rest is up to you.
