Tesla's problem is they have a temporary monopoly. Without their asterisk of being 100% battery powered, they are dead in the water. Might as well be as commonplace as Maserati at that point - which no one is hyping to invest in. Any of the big manufactures could squash them with ease if they wanted. But 99/100 consumers still want oil engines and all these other manufactures will focus on that market.
Oil prices for sure didn't help Tesla, imagine how big their bubble would be if oil prices went the opposite direction a couple years ago.
I'd buy a ton of Tesla very short-term only if oil prices snapped back to 100+ barrel at a fast pace.
