hey /biz/, this is basically an advice thread

My father owns a business that seems to be pretty lucarative and I'm sure he's willing to pass it on to me so long as I show interest in it. The problem is that his work requires a lot of effort and while I wouldn't actually mind doing it, I wouldn't enjoy it all that much either, especially considering I want to do other things with my life which actually might land me a job I would really enjoy.

I don't want to see the business end as it is a family operation and my father has put in tons of work into it, seeing it destroyed would be fucking terrible on my conscience.

tl;dr Take over an already established business or follow my dreams?

just take over, then hire a manager.
you can pay him in blowjobs.

Do both. Think outside the box to lighten the load of your father's business. Not knowing the type of business, I can't say much more.

We make dog and cat collars (out of high quality leather) and leather accessories, starting to branch out into leather goods for huamns now too.

Nice trips. Automate as much as possible. It'll cost upfront but if you're sure the demand is there might as well make it more bearable. Simple press machines and conveyor belts I imagine could do the trick.

The demand's there, however the machines must be really damn expensive since my dad's been using people instead for decades.

I could see stitching as needing people. But making the main cuts a hydraulic press could work wonders. Probably some DIY videos on how to make one. Or line them up and drive your car over the cookie cutter template. Good luck!

All the stitching and sowing does require people, yeah. However, we already use a hydraulic press to cut part of the leather, it needs to be manned though.

Man, I'm slowly coming to realize that I'll have to almost stop playing vidya if I actually want to do both things at the same time. Feels weird.
