Teacher here...
Make 70k. (It's true, look at the progressive districts like Pittsburgh, DC, Baltimore and others) Have school debt, but it's being forgiven.
I want to out perform my index funds, to create a nest egg for my incoming child. I would like to invest in high dividend stocks and in water.
Where can I start my research?
Thanks!
This money is for this child's education when they turn 18?
>where can I start my research?
Right here, you just did.
Why high dividend?
Nothing wrong with speculating in something (you mentioned water), but please understand that it's a speculation not necessarily an investment.
Personally I would consider a target date fund from vanguard, maybe in a 529 account.
you're better off getting a job at auntie anne's over the weekend

I do want to save for that.
There is a tax sheltered option? Possible deductible too?
>>1500970
Probably. I'm not American but in my country we do have that as a tax sheltered option with the federal government matching contributions

You and everyone else anon.

I admit ignorance, however would a stock with dividends be a better long term investment?
I have a targeted Vanguard. A whole S&P index fund and Whole Dow Jones index fund.
I wanted to invest because my wife will cease to work in October and I believe that it's important to set aside money for her retirement since she is giving up 4-8 years of full time earning to raise our child.
Also, I have 5k sitting around doing nothing.

I will have a Sunday Morning job in November: 100$/5 hours and free/discounted produce with a farmer/mentor friend.
Aunties- if they had a solid soft pretzel, I would consider

Everyone wants. Sure. I should clarify, I would like to beat the interest rate I am getting now.

Diversify. Invest in Canada, Europe, emerging markets. There are ETFs that track this. Also real estate or REITs, as well as bonds

Then buy a few high dividend index ETF like XEI
Don't invest in water or tesla or any of the shit /biz/ shills.
