How much would a masters degree in real estate help you make it big? Not sure if it's a worthy investment, but wouldn't people be more willing to buy upscale properties from someone with a masters degree?

how important are credentials?

Terrible idea. Somebody who's buying property is evaluating the property itself, not the seller.

In real estate deals, nobody cares about your credentials if you seem like you know what you're doing.

If you're wanting to work for a large real estate company or an REIT, obviously something like that would matter. If you want to go into business yourself as a private investor and landlord/flipper, anything you need to know can be found in books and learned from experience.

Say I have great success and eventually own a decently sized real estate company that builds skyscrapers. Is it not even necessary then? It feels like when you're doing something that important you should have higher education. maybe just my own misconception...

If you're controlling millions of dollars in capital and building skyscrapers, it wouldn't matter if you were a high school dropout who couldn't wipe his own ass. People would do business with you. If you were to get to that point, your business achievements would be your credentials, not a piece of paper.

Look at Bill Gates and Mark Zuckerberg. They're both college dropouts, but anyone would do business with them because they're successful in the business world.

And that's a pretty far-fetched scenario anyway. But even in small time real estate (non-commercial property management, house flipping, and small time development), nobody cares.
