At this point, with so many countries expanding their oil pumping, it may be hard to put the genie back in the bottle. OPEC doesn't have the power it once did. With more renewables as well coming around the world (China!), oil may stay low for quite a while. The Saudi's know if they bring it back over 50-60 a barrel, the US will just re-start all the shale stuff. Not like it's going anywhere.

Meanwhile, countries with a desperate need money (Iran, Venezuela, etc) will pump all they can no matter the price. It's a viscous circle.

I'm in the sim now, training myself. Wish I had this to play with too. Doing it with real cash always rams the lessons home well. At least the sim allows some more techniques like short selling and options and stuff. I do have small amounts of cash invested in funds but I can do that without fees. Just wish I could use this here in the UK. I think what I can do is use CFD's with my broker with minimal fees, I just need to find out if I can use them without leverage and with access to international stocks and stuff.

I just want to start out learning this stuff gently without exposing my self too much. I need to learn how to hedge properly and how to stay disciplined about my exposure limit. I have loads of time to trade in the afternoon/evening in the US or possibly late nights in the asia markets.

Don't buy anything under a dollar. Most here are young so they're looking for something they can afford. That's mostly right but don't buy anything under a dollar. Screen for companies you like with an established product line or ones that look like they have a chance to grow into that in the future. Also look at the 52 h/l and try to identify stocks that might have some room to roam with the right sentiment. You can still buy cheap but look for quality first.
