Great book, I enjoyed it from front cover to back cover, really genuine guy. Gave some very easy to follow examples, great if you're just getting into personal finance, but it's more of a beginner book to get your dick wet, if you're experienced you might want to read something a little more complicated.

Made a channel, building an office for myself right now, also building a powerful office PC, and setting up business bank accounts and whatnot.

http://ca.pcpartpicker.com/p/kcQ4Hx

^Build I'm putting together from now till April 2016.

Already got most of the things in my office like chair, minifridge/freezer, microwave, etc.

I'm basically almost ready to begin content creation, and I'm planning on doing "Let's Plays" with niche games, and I'll do a lot of tutorials for those niche games, as well as play bigger more well known games and use catchy titles and make some nice thumbnails. I am able to dedicate like 10 hours a day to content creation since the only other thing I do is work, so hopefully I have enough time to edit/create content.

My question for you guys is, what niches should I move into? Gaming is very saturated, so it's not impossible, but hard to break out into. I was thinking of buying a dashcam and also posting the stupid -almost- deaths I see everyday on my 1 hour+ drives. Another avenue could be just vlogging once I have a few thousand subscribers, and maybe even go into car spotting because I live in a city full of nice cars which I could exploit. I would organize it in playlists, and I'd post one type of video per day per week, and maybe vlog every single day when I'm popular enough. So, like 10 videos weekly I guess (5 days a week).

I really have nothing to do till next Winter, so that's why I decided it is time, and I'd like your help to see me through this process! I was reading a thread the other night about an anon that made $100k+ a year on YT, hopefully he can chime in here! :D

This is my channel by the way: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCLMWZSfiV03Bp67Jhi6q-Ig

How is the cover art, name, avatar? I went for simplicity...

Well, I would honestly stick with gaming. Just make sure to fill demand of your audience.

If you play a broad number of games, do your best to get them on release date or earlier to make sure you can put up lots of content fast.
>>
>>1006866

I like it, Pure White, sounds catchy and I bet girl gamers will go crazy over it

How does it sound edgy?

>>1006867

Yeah I would probably stick to gaming for now, until I build a little base before showing my face and stuff to be honest, no ones just going to watch someone without fans lol

How would my PC system stackup to play most games? I think it's decent enough to play games and render video for editing and such, I'll be using Adobe Premiere Pro probably, (don't have a Mac at home). But I might buy a Mac in May/June maybe if my channel has like a few k subs by then.

Money isn't really a problem, since I have no bills and shit, and just a bunch of free time I can afford everything I need I guess, $5k PC, $1.5k Camera/Mic, and $3k MacBook should be do-able in 5-6 months for me no problem.

Also about the game day releases, what do you think about reviewing games as well? I mean there are Lets Plays, Chapter Walkthroughs, Gameplay Videos, and Reviews, so should I do like every possible video type for each game? Or just stick to reviewing games or playing games?

Lets try to get some quality content on /biz

I'll start by contributing via answering your questions at all related to startups or business.

Background:

Went to College for roughly 2 years. had a GPA of 3.5 before I dropped and entered an elevator pitch competition run by the Collegiate Entrepreneur's Association (CEO) club. Long story short I qualified for nationals in Orlando. Had some investor interest but ended up dropping out. After about of semester of doing my own thing I got an internship at a startup which is now my full-time job. I'm basically the dream for most of /biz and I'll answer some questions on how I got here and how you can too.

Let's say you are someone who just turned 21, with a GED and no college education, no money, and whose only work experience was at a McDonalds for one year, and at a group home for two. You are planning on moving to a different state in 3-6 months with one other person, you know absolutely nobody there, and with roughly 2000-5000 dollars in savings, depending on how long you wait until moving. How would you get a job with enough pay to actually pay rent on a decent apartment? What would you do to get qualifications for good, above minimum wage jobs? Where would you look for said jobs? How do you network before you move, so you might have a decent job in place?

I'd just kill myself since I was born retarded enough to move somewhere without even a lead for employment.
>>
I was like you anon in 2005. 18 yo and only armed with a GED, I joined the Army, got promoted fast as fuck..."made E7 in 7" and I'm making about 75k a year. Doesn't sound like much, but I pay very little federal taxes and no state taxes and my healthcare is frreeeee, to me anyway. When I last deployed I rolled in 92k tax free and didn't have to pay for food a single time.
>>
>>1007285
And to add to that, we have the TSP which allowed me to max out the Roth option at 18k. I'll put 5500 into my Roth IRA in the next few days....that's 23.5k tax free earnings son!

Oh, the wage slaves paid for my bullshit four year degree and currently paying for my MBA, online so what? It's fucking free to me!

Just buy ETF indexes. Stop waiting for crash, it won't happen. Next year new highs, S&P 500 to 3000, 10-20% correction then 10 000.

Bullibull.

Without a full audit of the fed everyone is just guessing what their currency is worth. If you can't know for certain what your currency is worth any trading done with it is pure speculation and more like gambling than investing. Past results can not predict the future.

Bitcoin has more potential than any ETF anyway.

How much of success is due to hard work, and how much of it is due to simple luck (randomness)?
Back up your claims.
69 posts and 6 images submitted.
>>
>>1005122
By continuously working hard you allow yourself to get "lucky".

Yeah most of success is probably luck but if you don't create the opportunity for it you will never get lucky. If you don't take all those job interviews, try creating your own business, invest in memes, etc you can never win
>>
>>1005122
About 82.3856% of success is due to hard work, and about 17.6144% is due to simple luck (randomness). I know this because I am aware of every single success story known to man and can pinpoint exactly how many instances are attributable to hard work.
>>
>>1005126
This. Hard work creates luck, or rather, hard work allows one to get lucky more often.

Hey guys I am in need of some serious career advice.

I'm basically the biggest cuck at my job right now. I am a temp-to-hire who has been there for half a year, getting paid $16 as a "data analyst" excel jockey.

I work under the actual Data Analyst who creates reports and dashboard, which I then learn how to make based on her excel filters and basically reproduce every week.

I have been passed over for promotion to full-time even tho almost everyone who gets hired there gets fulltime within the month and/or comes on as a fulltime.

I don't blame the company, the reason I am getting cucked so hard is because I'm basically a bitch and I haven't stepped up for shit since I got there; I just do what I am told and nothing more.

I realized this too late, and I'm 75% sure I'm gonna get laid off within the month.

The reason I'm sure I'm gonna lose my job is because they have hired contractors to come and implement an automated reporting system with Microsoft Power BI

My question to you guys is this:

1) Do I attempt to show my worth to the company in a final hurrah by finally stepping up as an employee and being proactive about my own personal project?

2) Cut my losses, learn to program for myself and either try to self-employ myself or look for employment elsewhere since I'm obviously in the cuckzone for my current employer?

I'd really appreciate this because I honestly feel like right now is a very important time in my life and I can't fuck up my youth by wasting any more time than I already have.

Looking for personal advice from anyone who has experience with carving a professional career for themselves. Thanks.

>>
>>1005119
Not to be edgy but I'm not sure what to believe in at this point.

On the one hand I really like all my coworkers and my boss is also very intelligent and nice, but on the other hand I cant help but feel like I let everyone down with my laziness and lack of initiative.

Don't get me wrong, I do good work there and I'm always on time with my work, everything is performed to my highest ability and accuracy. The problem is that my job requires no special qualifications on my part, and it is easily replaceable.

I'm not really even afraid of being fired since I'm sure I can find work elsewhere, it's just the direction that I choose to take from here on out I think will be very important. Try and prove myself or cut my losses; it's a tough decision.

when you have a position available that you would accept, hold a meeting with a manager and explain your issue---word it such that you want more challenge and you would thrive with responsibility and involvement. It goes without saying that your heart needs to be in this too, I'm reading between the lines here and thinking maybe you don't like your job... Would you like what it could be? Can you see the opportunity for a better position in your company?

Have you ever heard of a trust fund that gives the beneficiary the equivalent of minimum wage?

Trying to think of ways to explain away my mysterious source of income. A trust fund seems simplest, but I'm not rich, I just have no large or fixed time commitments, i.e. I live like an unemployed person.

If I said I owned a house and rented it out, then I'd need to explain why I couldn't just sell it off to fund my business venture. To give me plausible excuses for both needing capital and apparently not needing to work, I need to somehow make my alleged source of income inaccessible to me. Hence my interest in a trust fund cover story.

I was injured while overseeing construction work and got compensation. I am fine, though I can no longer put stress on my back.

My original plan was to give up my middle class prejudices, stack cash, and never speak of it again.

People do not respect money from blue collar sources, and definitely do not respect money from welfare or compensation.
I'd just prefer to sweep it under the rug; I'd appreciate if you didn't question this.

This topic is a perfect example of why bitcoin is valueless. Money is valuable because it is used to buy things. Governments make lots of it so that everyone can buy things, many countries even borrow against a nebulous future debt to make money so that people can buy things today.

But bitcoin isn't about buying things. Bitcoin's value is 100% derived from its rarity. No one wants to use bitcoin to buy things, not even criminals, because its generally cheaper to launder real money. The vast staggering majority of bitcoins are simply hoarded, not spent.

It's a digital tulip.
>>
>>1004678
At the very least it's a refuge for money to go to escape inflation. That alone is very valuable thing.

Share tips, infographics, techniques and stories (good and bad ones).

I got inspired to make this thread when I realized that a small modification to the pomodoro technique made it more effective to me: I decreased work chunks from 25m to 15m and the first chunk of any work period is fully dedicated to just LOOKING at what I have to do. I don’t force myself to start right away. It’s not easy to even face that to-do list, but once I do it gets easier to start working

I believe procrastination is a mental illness, like depression or addiction, but doesn’t get the attention it deserves except mainly from self-help gurus who exploit people desperate to fix their lives

Since it can take such a heavy toll on your professional life, I think /biz/ is the ideal board to have this general. Let’s get out of this well together.
