>Finance major with a minor in English.
>Only doing finance for the financial stability. Really no desire to actually work as an analyst/banker/whatever else.
>Don't care too much about money as long as I'm independent, have healthy food, gym membership, stable apartment, etc. No desire for fancy cars, overpriced suburban home, and vacations to Hawaii.
>Things I like: literature, discussing literature, learning, romance, writing, passionate sex, public speaking.
>Would like my own Wikipedia page one day.
>Family history of teachers. Grandfather, grandmother, and mother were all high school teachers in Spain. Uncle is a professor in Spain.
>Love teaching people things and watching people learn.
>Tons of intellectual attractive interesting women in academia/teaching.

The question is, should I go for academia? Don't know the exact path but I assume I'd have to go to a top grad school to get a Master's or Ph.D in English, which is plausible with my EC's and GPA. Would love to study at an Ivy for a few years. Then some assistant positions or whatever before finding a comfy tenured job somewhere. Is the field really saturated? Do I stand a chance? Professor life seems like the life for me, with the chance to write books and interact other people in my field while being with young people. Ideally I'd eventually move on to become provost/dean/president of the college/university. Back-up plan would be to become a teacher at a prestigious private high school.

Or,

Am I a romantic dumbfuck who needs to keep his ass in finance?

I know that this isn't directly related to stocks/finance/investing but it's employment related and /biz/nessmen seem very insightful so I thought it would work here.

Making more money.

Every popular book about getting rich involves already having a decent revenue stream. They assume you can cover costs of living, they assume you can throw decent amounts of money into investments, they assume you're wasting thousands per year that you shouldn't, they assume you can put down payments on rental properties, they assume you know people who can invest in your business ideas.

High school senior here, it seems like most of the stuff discussed on here is about stocks and investing and whatnot which is pretty irrelevant to most people about to go to college or college students themselves. What can I do to prepare myself for business later in life?

I worked at a restaurant for about three months and saved up everything I earned ($900) in a savings account at my local credit union (3% and no fees). Yes I know, shitty but it's a start. Becoming financially independent would be great for me because my dad and I don't have a great relationship and he could cut me off at any time. I'll definitely be going to college, and applied to quite a few. If I get into most places where I applied (no guarantee) my options will be:

1. Ivy League/Stanford-would cost a good amount but top-notch education and a great time.

2. University of Alabama-bc of sholarships I've already received, it would cost only about 10K a year including everything. Would probably major in finance or some other business major and minor in polisci or english. Might be able to graduate in three or even two years due to AP credit.

3. UC school (uni of California). Would cost like 30K a year (I'm in-state) and I heard that most have shitty social scenes and that the academics suck. The only UCs I'd consider over 'Bama would be Berkeley or LA.

4. Private liberal arts college on a full-ride. I applied to some privates (Davidson and Washington and Lee) that have full ride programs and would only go if I got them. Education would be free but I would have to major in economics.

How do I maximize my future earning potential.

Wow great job son.

Its a hard question to answer, full disclosure I am a loser in life but I am old so can at least chip in until you get a quality answer.

1. Ivy League has a far different culture than Alabama. Are you ready to become a intellectual college athlete? Competition is really fierce, getting good grades means being better than others, not personally excellent. Mostly no time for fun.

2. Alabama is where you go to get laid by sorostitutes but if your personality and looks are jacked then you would have a sadder time but might find your future wife. Academically its very easy and allows for more of a broad spectrum of experiences. I went to a similar college called UofArizona Tucson. Spent time partying all weekend and seeing so much fun events and shows barely riding on my 3.2 GPA.

NOTE: You may actually find it easier to get a job than at Davidson because of the Alumni network. People love hiring Bama grads if they also graduated from Bama.

3. UofCalifornia is terrible unless you are left wing in politics and okay with the social justice scene. Its also way better in psychology, history, poli sci then say hard sciences. Most women will be hardcore feminist or lesbian/demisexual/trans.

Academically its incredible and slightly less stress than Harvard so you can have a single hobby too.

4. If you get a full ride, I would absolutely take it. You only get a small amount of debt, if you hate liberal arts then you can go into a good masters like law or MBA. However if you don't like these things don't do this option at all. Liberal arts credits only are arts, so if you decided to do STEM you would be screwed.

>Its also way better in psychology, history, poli sci then say hard sciences.

Switch them around for LA, SD, and Berkeley and that's accurate. The only UC worth anything for biz is Berkeley and the social scene throughout the UCs is pretty shit unless, like this guy said, you're a hardcore liberal

So I'm on track to buy a very expensive car... I'm about 50% of the way there already.

>be me, 23
>insurance broker since 18
>have 82,000 already for my car
>car costs 160,000 here
>less than 2 years, and i will have enough

>mfw i'll be 24 and own a Ferrari F430, my dream Ferrari, and I have the Lego version since 2007 and that's when I told myself I'd buy it someday

why didnt you sell insurance to cucks /biz/? what are you doing with your fucking life?

There is no reason to be older than 24 and not drive a special car. There is no reason to be in debt. There is no reason to be a wage slave. The only thing holding you back, IS YOU.

I also went to college 2 years late, (20) and I'm almost finished a degree in Mathematics and Statistics BSc, and I'll be writing my CFP exam soon as well. My avenue to bitches and money is becoming a Financial Planner/Advisor and getting clients by showing them the life I'm living.

Has to be a troll. No one is this pathetic.

Your car is not your penis. Your car is not your self-worth. Your car does not fix your shitty life.

Grow up, kid.
>>
>>1012297

Pathetic? How?

This was my dream, I'm about to achieve it, within 2 years.

I love cars, I remember begging my parents to buy me that Lego Ferrari F430 Challenge, in Red and Yellow, I begged for 3 months before they finally gave in.

Me? Grow up? So just because you are not close to realizing your dream, however Honda Civic pathetic they might be, you think I'm the one who needs to grow up? I was going to be a loser, working at McDonalds. I was so out of it, I decided to go and sell insurance, door to door. Now I have clients coming to my apartment, meeting with me. I insure many different things, but mainly houses and luxury vehicles. I'll probably own my own Insurance company by the time I'm 30. I ensure most of the luxury cars a lot of the kids around my age drive in my city. I have 437 clients right now, since I first started. I give people great rates and word of mouth grew.

What do you do with your life?
>>
>>1012300

You should only buy a car that is 10% of your income. Youre still a poor fag kiddo. If you buy that car youll still be a virgin and ruin your future.

Mission impossible mode:

You have zero savings; no real assets; say $30,000 debt (credit cards and student loans); only a BA in something like journalism, advertising, English or whatever; only work history is service or retail like cashier or bartender or waiter; no home

BONUS for extra points no or suspended license, no passport, and/or medical debts at wizard level (doesn't matter if virgin only that you're 30)

Extra bonus points: you don't fall back on your parents or social services to do it

How do you dig out and make a fortune? This is the /biz/ equivalent of going inna woods with only a hunting knife and surviving.

Does anybody else hear follow lithium and its related industries? I barely ever see anyone talking about it. But it seems to have the most potential. My intention is to invest in mining start-ups with the most future potential, then cashing out after production starts a couple years later. So yes its a mid -to-long term investment. I've seen a copper mine startup go from 50c to 8.00 after production begins. (see CUM.TO) that was years ago but I predicted it. perfectly. What would be the difference with a solid lithium startup?

What are the Pros and Cons of Marriage, if the two partners actually love each other and earn similar money and are not going to fuck the other over with a divorce?

>Age: 25 and 27
>Yearly salary: $130k and $120k
>No kids planned for 3 more years
>$450k in savings between both
>Supportive parents, who paid for their house, meaning no mortgage, just property taxes

What can you actually "do" with Marriage if it's a good Marriage?
128 posts and 25 images submitted.
>>
I don't understand the question

Every choice you make in life is a compromise and marriage is no exception

You give complete personal freedom to create a loving and supportive bond with another person.

Most marriages fail simply because the couple won't communicate with each other.

As long as you don't marry a word (< or =2 sexual partners max including you) and you're both on the same page with finances, family, religion, and goals, and are constantly communicating effectively, then there are no downsides to marriage.

If you treat marriage like a game, and put no effort in, then prepare to tell the family court to just fuck your shit up
>>
>>1011040
Word = whore on mobile

Fyi, each sexual pre marital sex partner a woman has correlates to almost a 10% increase in divorce.

You two have the money issue under control, which is the most common official reason for divorce in the US

A lot of people will tell you to get a prenup, but they don't do jack shit, and are completely void after you have children, even if you try to put a clause in for children.

The prenup itself creates a lot of hostility and can almost become a self fulfilling prophecy. It's better to be more objective about your potential spouse than fucking around with prenups.

Be honest with yourself about your future with this woman. Time you've been together and get income are irrelevant. Really take an objective look at her personality and habits, and decide if she's the one to spend your life with.
>>
>25 and 27
>if the two partners actually love each other and are not going to fuck the other over with a divorce

Discussions on this topic are a waste of time, you gain more reading books about economy from 100 years ago than wasting time discussing about potential automation of everything.
If by some miracle humanity achieves extraordinarily advanced AI capabilities then the system will adapt really fast with it and you will live to see the changes.
AI's could direct you into where you could create the most value based on your personality / skillsets.

With AI that is pure intelligence humanity would go towards a more rational, efficient direction... not this greedy, emotional capitilistc shithole.
Earth capacity is of 1000 billion humans, if smokers world wide would skip buying a pack of cigs today all the money saved would be sufficient to build a spaceship that could life 153 people in space.
No reason to be scared about that, it's all beneficial.

But future is darker than that, we have closer in our reach quantum computing... which will alive giants like google to approximate what you will want to search with high accuracy... or what would you want to see / advertise wise.
For simpletons compared to hardware we use today, quantum computing allows more operations than there are things in the world, mathematical power is amazing.
