Biz hookups thread:
Got an idea or opportunity that you can't do anything with?
Need someone with some skills you don't have?
Looking for a job?
Hiring?
Looking for a reference?
You get the idea.

Here is mine, well, actually I have two.
First, I am working for a company, I have been given a list of stuff that I can sell at extremely discounted prices at my discretion to get it out of our warehouse, they don't care if I sell it to other dealers or individuals, but I can't buy any of it myself, except for personal use.
This falls under the opportunity that I can't do anything with category, do any of you sell athletic equipment on ebay or something?

Second, and this one is a bit more of a long shot, but I know someone who is having a hell of a time finding a maintenance guy for his mobile home park, Its in a rural area of the north western US, you have to be able to pass a background check and a drug test, pay is not amazing but cost of living is extremely low and you'll get 40 hours a week.

Any cool jobs in the ATL area available?

So I found out that I got an ex girlfriend prego and now she is demanding I pay child support. Is it smarter to let the court handle it or just try to negotiate a price I can pay monthly to help take care of the kid.

I don't want anything to do with her or the child, I didn't know the woman for very long and the kid would be better off without having me in its life.

anyway is there some way to negotiate a better price to pay or any kind of financial loop holes around this?

I also have credit card, student loan debt... is there any leverage with this type of debt when it comes to being forced to pay child support?

Did you give her your real name?
Don't give your real name to a sexual partner you don't intend to keep around, teebee8ch.
If not, just bail.
If so, gg no re, you can either bail or have a negative net worth for nearly 20 years.

>did you give her your real name
yes

I told her to get an abortion or get a paternity test to prove its mine... haven't talked to her since.

like how? I can't leave the country if that's what you mean.

>and the kid would be better off without having me in its life.

Science disagrees with you there. You are telling yourself a lie, but you are messing up the kids life by being irresponsible. The kid is much better of on all socioeconomic factors by having contact with it's biological father.

1. Is it true that the palce is filled with really smart people doing really dumb work? Have you learnt a lot in your job?

2. I know that google hires people by making them solve algorithm 101 tier problems on a white board. Why is this even seen as challenging or controversial?

3. Is it like a generic big corporate job where BS rules, or are intelligent contributions and hard work all that matter? Or where is it in between these extremes?

4. Do you ever work with people from unconventional backgrounds? i.e. non CS related degrees or people who were self taught programmers? What are they like compared to someone who did a CS degree from Stanford, as an example?

I made over 100k this year from my minecraft server(2nd year in a row)

Having no friends and being a closet autist is finally paying off.

My server usually has 1000+ people online and I sell in game items and ranks.

Being worshiped by the players helps with the loneliness too.
I even spoke to a girl on teamspeak.

What should I do with all this money to make more? It only costs me <1500 per month to keep my server online.

Nootropics thread?

What are your cognitive enchancers /biz/

Beyond the obvious:

> sleep well
> excercise

Aside from the well trusted caffeine...do you take anything to boost mental power?

I have found that cigarrettes boost my productivity tenfold. Sadly, they're bad for you. Luckily, I don't seem to get any real dependency or addiction though, which is good. So I try to use them only when desperately needed.

I have done most of the stimulants (ritalin, adderall), but I found them far too powerful, hell even caffeine makes me sort of fucked up and unable to concentrate if I have too much. I'm extremely prone to Anxiety.

In an ideal world, I would be a high energy, no substances, Donald Trump....but alas I got inferior genetics.

How do people stay driven and motivated in making money when they already make enough to be very comfortable for the foreseeable future...

say someone is making 100k a year (after taxes), and it's very safe & secure... what could motivate that person to work harder to make more??

>what could motivate that person to work harder to make more??
a second Ferrari.

I can't remember the name for it but everyone gets accustomed to what they have and thus want more after a while.
>>
>>1017410
>what could motivate that person to work harder to make more?

Having a goal like buying a home or retiring early helps give you motivation.
Other than that if you actually enjoy your job then that should be enough.
I've was in a position where I was making good money but didn't have any direction or goals in life and as a result became very self destructive. Now I've worked out what I want lifes a hell of a lot better.

Giving. Yeah I know it seems strange, but I've seen in happen. An old friend of mine started becoming very successful, earning well above 100k, and then started stagnating. He had the house, car, quality of life etc he always wanted. He had much more potential though, and one day he decided to randomly help a family who's house burnt down. The satisfaction he got from basically saving them from a horrible tragedy made him want to make more. He ended up starting a charity, which is now a huge success.

Higher education is free in my country, and my family absolutely wants me to get at least a bachelor's degree.
The issue is that I want to join the army and I don't give a shit about most academic subjects. Therefore I suppose I should study something with actual practical use, but I don't know what.

Right now my two options are either to double major in two foreign languages, or do CS.

Could I get some advice? I don't know what to do.

Go to a military academy so you can have both?
>>
>>1015466
I don't think there are worthwhile military academies here, most of them seem to be specialized for pilots.

I'm not even sure if I'd like to commission, I'll probably enlist even if I get a degree.
>>
>>1015467
I can't believe that. Contact the army and ask them what they can offer. Usually they have engineering positions of many kinds. Maybe even in CS. Usually great opportunities as long as you don't have to go to war.

Which industry is hot for MechE's? Is it true that an MBA gets an engineer a much higher salary in the long run? I was thinking that maybe there were some jobs in the oil industry, but PetE has been tanking lately. Enlighten me /biz/nessmen.

For the love of god don't do petroleum. Don't let a friend do it either.

And no you don't want a masters degree that's for immigrants.

The key is to get internships. In your summers. Even as a freshman start applying.
>>
>>1020333
in addition of meche, try adding some certificate like hse or so.
>>
>>1020343

There's a Lockheed Martin around where I am. I was thinking about trying to get an internship there. But, I don't know how the life will be at large companies vs small companies. I hear that it's better to start at large companies to get experience. However, I don't know how much of this is true. I plan to stick with Aero/MechE anyways. I was considering EE, but I hear tons of them nowadays go into software.

My dad owns a small, somewhat failing, business. The business is a financial advisory (not a accountancy firm); Anyway the firm sells insurance and advises on mortgages. I think that the idea of the business is stupid; however, I, being the most intelligent and promising entrepreneur in the family, am going to take over the business from my dad. My issue is, I just do not think it is worth it, because of the relatively low income it is pulling in, or at least my dads salary (£60k annual)

I am thinking of going to University and becoming an investment banker or a Hedge Fund Manager. Does the business have any promise, what do you reckon I do? I don't want to be a failure like my dad.

Your dad wasn't a failure if you are as intelligent as your snide ass believes. Fuck you for raggin on your dad, he wants to give you what he has worked hard for and you shit on it.
>>
>>1020337
He has hardly worked hard, he looks for opportunities to not have to do work and employ as many people under him as possible. He finds doing hard work for himself as a bore, it is a wonder he is making £60k desu. I appreciate what he does for me, I just feel as if he is a little to naive.
>>
>>1020348

Go to school. You're right, you don't need to carry on his business. I'd hate to see all of his life's work swindled by some entitled teenage son who thinks he has the potential to be something with no credentials other than his "promising entrepreneur" spirit....that he actually got from his father.....who has actually started his own business.

Meanwhile...you're posting on 4chan.

marriedfags with working wives,

How do you split your bills with your wife percentage-wise?

Do you keep track of both of your incomes and expenditures? Does she let you know her finances?

Would she be offended if she was made to live off of her own income and nothing more?
all marriedcucks,

Do you keep a mental tally of all your money she has spent? Does this come up in your fights?

Do you agree that marriage is legalized prostitution?

We both make 6 figures and split bills evenly. We keep separate accounts for personal use but have a joint account solely for bills and vacations.

Never fought about money because we make so much compared to what we spend. Will have our home paid off next year at 27.

She paid for all expenses during a 3 month layoff I had a few years ago. I would do the same for her. We would both be fine on a single income but it's nice having a boatload of extra cash from split expenses.

If the only time you could fuck would be with a prostitute I understand why you are a forever alone neckbeard.
>>
>>1019937
My wife and I are both accountants and keep everything separate. At the end of every month we go over our expenses that could be considered mutual like electric, mortgage, groceries etc. We tally these expenses up, cut them in half and subtract out what we each paid. Whoever pays less writes the other person a check for the difference. So if I spent $600 on mutual expenses and she spent $500, we would take the $1,100 total divide it in half to get $550 and subtract out $500. She would write me a check for $50 just so everything is split down the middle. Any other personal expenses are irrelevant and not factored in. This process has been working pretty well for a little over two years now.

Hey /biz/

Earlier today I applied for an AMEX Gold Premier. Got accepted and was happy.

Saw the Platinum while I was on my Gold account and thought I could upgrade it. So I applied, got approved but was told I couldn't add the Platinum card to my account and I had to make a new one.

So it ends up I just opened a brand new card and didn't upgrade my current one.

How fugged am I? I want to close the Gold one because I got the Platinum. Isn't closing a credit card that quickly bad for my credit?

Should I just keep both cards?

>>
Closing longstanding cards impacts your credit history. Closing a new card would impact credit utilization.
>>
>>1019510
Isn't Platinum better than the Gold? Why would you even want to get the Gold over the the Platinum?
>>
>>1019516
I got the Gold first, thought I'd aim low rather than high so I wouldn't get denied.

Got the Gold then said fuck it a few hours later and tried for Plat and got it. From what I read online they upgrade your Gold, not in my case though

3 months in USA, 1 month Ireland, 2 months France, 1 month Ireland again, 2 months Canada, then USA again for the remainder.

If $20k lasts only 6 months then it's a shame
