I am an 18 year old currently looking for investment options. I currently work at a resturant/bar and get paid under the table. I do not drive and i am not asking the typical "how do i make money" question, i just need to be pointed in some sort of direction from someone who has experience. I have a few ideas for products that would involve plastic molding but im not sure how to get started. Should i first look into patenting my idea? Or should i get some manufactured and test the product out? I also dont know how to go about getting my idea manufactured.
As far as skills go i am pretty good at technology related things for somebody my age. I have repaired computers on the side since the age of 14 and i currently take a javascript program on khanacademy. However, outside of local repairs and selling a few domains for $1000 total i really havent figured out how to capitalize on my skill. At my age and with my current job i have plenty of time on my hands to learn as much as i want and i am looking to take advantage of that without spending money on school.
Overall, if anyone here has had any success with creating a product or small investments that would be good to start with, where would be a good place to start?

hey /biz/ i'm going into the sales industry and a common requirement on job descriptions is the possession of a "diploma" or a "major/certificate" in sales. Is there anyway that i can get a cheap but legit (to some extent) one? are there any courses that i can do online? something that would sound legit on a resume.
Just photoshop one and get a family member to act as the reference if they ask (they won't)
A diploma for sales...?
The only way one learns to sell is by selling.
>>1024030
>job descriptions is the possession of a "diploma" or a "major/certificate" in sales.
Literally doesn't exist in America. Just lie or put down "available upon request" because all that matters is getting to the interview.
I've never heard of this, and I'm in an environment filled with nothing but professional salespeople.
Can someone provide me with information on passive incomes. I know you can survive on them alone, but how easy is it to make $10/day with it (im traveling through asia for a while and want to supplement some expenses with it)? Also i saw a link to a file that explains how to set them up, does anyone have that i can get?
$10 a day should be no problem.
Someone can post the links to some sites where you can do small tasks for PP money.
You should be able to earn like $30 a day in a few hours.
>>1023984
would this require daily maintenance or one its put in motion can i let it sit alone and run itself?
>>1023986
Hell no, that anon didn't read that you wanted it passively. For passive income your best bet for passive income is to throw $105,000 into a high dividend yield index fund for 3.5% dividends annually, which comes out to roughly $10/day.
...Except it's taxed, so make that $145,000.

So I have been hearing a lot of things about colleges and if getting degrees are worth it. I have heard quite a bit from both sides on the topic and I am still not sure what to think. It seems that a lot of people graduate with debt that they don't pay off for decades, and I'm worried that that will happen to me. I currently plan on going to college to be a physicist (going for a doctorates), but I'm not sure if college is financially worth it. Does anyone have any personal stories or advice to give on the topic?
>>1023873
I got my bachelor's debt free and I'm still not sure if it was worth it. It's only been have a year since graduation though, maybe I need more time.
If someone tells you college was worth it, things worked out for them, and vice versa. And whether things work out depends on more factors than just where you go and what you major
You should go to a Comm College for at least a year to get some pre reqs done if money is an issue for you, it's way cheaper and will probably transfer, check though.
College is great if you go for STEM, but even then the pure sciences have shit employment, physics included.
One of my good mates studied physics and has been finished for 2 years (got his doctorate). I went straight to work with out Uni and am now studying part time (business and commerce). After doing that I can see how much of the degree is rubbish and people in the real world don't care about so much you are taught. I'm earning 95k in Aus and my mate who did his doctorate is working at Maccas because unless you work at the Uni where is a physicist going to work?
My advice, unless you love physics look at something else and I would say come back to Uni after you have life experience - so much stuff you just understand better and you know how to prioritize better.
How much money can be made selling user data to advertisers? Facebook free basics got me thinking. If I set up free 3g/4g data for people in a city and just capture all their usage, I could sell accurate profiles to advertisers. The question is, does the sale of user info cover the cost of riding on another carrier's bandwidth?
'bout three fiddy
Not really
Do most millionaires/billionaires manage their own money and investments or do they have financial advisors and shit?
Pic somewhat related: He probably makes all his own investment decisions
They hire different people to do different things.
One or more accountants, financial planners, etc.
It's not really possible to manager your money yourself when you own multiple large businesses dealing with millions of revenue/expenses each.
>>1023805
>or do they have financial advisers and shit?
Yes. And I'm sure multiple advisers as they don't want to have all their eggs in one basket.
Sup /biz/. I don't know why I'm asking since most of the people on this board are American and degrees are different in Europe. Basically I've fucked up my exams and I managed to only get into an ordinary bachelors degree in engineering. I basically have two choices. To go into the Honors Bachelors after 1 year in general or do the 3 years of the Ordinary bachelors and then go into year 3 of the Honors Bachelors. Both routes will take 5 years in total (1 extra year for a 4 year exam) but I'm not sure which is best. If I go straight into the Honors Bachelors I'll be in a proper engineering course but I'll have to repeat a general first year again. If I go into the second year of the Ordinary degree I'll finish with 2 degrees but I'll essentially be fucked for applying for any work placements/ internships for 3 years. I'm completely lost on what to do and any advice would be great.
>>1023763
Bachelors degree is a scam and a meme.
Become a tradesman, you make way more as an electrician than some pleb engineer.
1 extra year for a 4 year course*
>>1023764
I've been told that job prospects for engineer graduates are terrible in America but trust me they are very good in Ireland still.
What are some good financial forums and websites you guys on besides /biz/?
What are some informative news websites that aren't shit memes?

Anything else? Anyone have any interesting financial forums with user discussion to look at that aren't shit-tier?
Thinking about starting a liquor store business. Don't know how profitable it would be, but logic dictates most people like to drink. especially on weekends. Any advice and or experience in this area?
>>1023654
Looked into it a few years back (had no money, just a fantasy). Obviously gonna want a good location near peoples homes and commutes. If you live in a state where grocery stores can sell liquor/wine you probably won't want to be near one of those. Look up the laws on distribution where you live. In TN there is a three tier system where the brewers have to sell to distributors who can only sell to retailers. No one can skip these steps (except for "souveniers" you can buy at places like the Jack Daniels brewery in Lynchburg.) The only way to get a price advantage over your competition is to buy in bulk. So you have to have somewhere to store lots of inventory. This will increase your costs. From all the research I did, it doesn't seem like the kind of thing you can make good money at as only the owner. You will need other business or have to work there to get a decent livable salary.
Whats /biz/'s opinion on unions? 18 Year old here who has the opprotunity to join a trade union for HVAC. However, i have a 4 year tuition free scholarship. If i had to pick ,which one should i go for?
Note: im looking for a day job that pays atleast 35,000-ish a year. Im a single guy with basic hobbies and want to move out of my parents asap.
Unions are great. There are very few drawbacks.
People that argue against them don't know what they are talking about.
>>1023655
do you think i should go for it and forget about college if i can?
>>1023613
I don't work trades but I'm a phone salesman even though I have a BS in Pharmaceutical Sciences.
I'd say get unionized and start building on your work experience and estate right now. Save or invest your money. Make friends and build connections with people you could use for references.
Through the union you'll be well protected and will (hopefully) never have difficulty finding work. They will help you find work.
I have no idea what else might play into it. If you absolutely NEED certain academic certifications to really make it well in HVAC or what.
From the sounds of it though no matter which way you go you've got a good opportunity here. A good opportunity at a good life.
I'm probably just an outlier whose words should be taken with a hefty grain of salt but I say you'd be happier with cash and experience instead of a fancy wall-hanger from a fancy university.
I'm still in high school, but I really want to start my own business. I have no clue what type of business I would be interested in getting into, but I just have a deep desire to create one and grow it into a successful one.
Is college worth going to? If so what degrees would be best to pursue for this?
Is there anything I can do now while I'm still in highschool. I feel like I am wasting valuable time.
>>1023498
a direction is important. sounds like you just want to build a business because you idolize the idea of being a boss and doing 'your thing'. it's a tremendous amount of work, you want to make sure you enjoy and understand the field.
learn how to code, and maybe acquire some level of design skill. those two are huge and will benefit you in almost any imaginable path you take.
Have you ever thought about becoming a pre-op tranny and sucking cocks. Heard the supply outweighs the demand, start out sucking a dozen dicks a day. Save up enough $ to get a boob job, then you hit the big time baby. Maybe move to Vegas and work your craft or dare I say maybe get into the fetish film industry.
>>1023501
My eyes glazed over when trying to learn and understand code, design is interesting any online resources to go down that route?
What investment possibilities does the ISIS crisis in Syria open? Oil, some turkish stocks, russian weapons manufacturers...

Does Syria have a stockmarket? If so it must be in the pits now.
So only a year after graduating college and I find myself in the position of having to re-build an international online business more or less from the ground up.
To summarize, I got an internship at a company that runs multiple international online stores and several other online properties, with multiple office branches worldwide. The majority of employees at said company laughably quit over the duration of 2015, with the intern (me) left holding the bag in many ways. I am now expected to restructure, re-employ and revive the company using what we have.
My question here is do you guys have any recommendations for good books to read on internal business structure / employee hierarchy design for modern online businesses? Most systems required for the company to function are already in place, however everything was done very half-assedly, so if I am going to start restructuring the company I figure I might as well go all out and analyze / rebuild fucking everything.
So yeah, any advice would be awesome. Thanks in advance.
you and the company are fucked
people quit for a reason
