I study MIS and Analytics at a good Canadian university. What are your opinions on this topic, or my MIS as a degree?
I prefer Bloodlines but take a bump anyway.

Anyone here work with social media advertising?
Recently got a job doing listings for a furniture company, but the job also involves a percentage of sales. Going by my boss' advice, I've been pinning stuff to our company's pinterest accounts and tweeting stuff @popularthing (oprah, jimmyfalon, whatever) with appropriate hashtags, but I really don't know what I'm doing. I was told you just get lucky with this sort of thing, and I have had one sale, but I was hoping you guys had advice.
No, the picture I'm using is not a thing the company sells. Nothing quite so cool.
What do you think is hard in marketing? I've literally been doing "gigs" like those for a couple of years now, along with going to college full time and also be employed full time. Nothing hard, takes me maybe AT MOST 30 minutes a day. People are stupid and will believe in anything you say as long as you provide them with something out of the box with a shitload of numbers, commas and quotes in between

I get that. Mostly I'm curious about getting pageviews through twitter posts and such. Not really saying it's hard, I just don't know if the twitter posts and pinterest crap is anything besides tossing pebbles into the ocean.
Okay so Im a recent finance graduate, it took me 7 years, counting 2 years i took off, and honestly, i cheated in some of my classes, the ones that didnt have open book tests,
and its not like i went to a really prestigious school, so in alot of my finance classes i just memorized the equations (or programed them in my calculator) and that was enough to get me though a scantron based testing system
I feel like i never really learned finance, i mean its like I can understand the language but i don't grasp the concepts.
Ive recently been trying to fix this by reading my old finance textbooks (intermediate financial management) and trying to really soak it in.
Heres what ive learned so far
How to calculate a stocks standard deviation (The higher it is the riskier it is) and now the book is talking about finding stocks that are negativity coordinated to eliminate risk. it says that stocks are on average .28 to .35 positively coordinated, does this mean my portfolio should be around 28% positively coordinated to get risk down to a realistic level or do i seek to get the correlation as negitive as possible?
Am I learning something??
I also need some help understanding the formula for correlation my book calls it p

Those are more the tools of the trade and when relevant are almost always done by computer.
If you want to really succeed and stand out you need to read between the lines. You'd be surprised to see how many people think a stock paying dividends is a good thing. Or a company holding a lot of cash. Or maybe you wouldn't, but that's the point.
Finance isn't really about crunching these numbers. Accurate results should be a way to make a decision, not the decision itself. If you could predict the next Google or Apple and invest early would you? Or would you rather predict the next dive in the market? Particularly hot high cap markets like tech. Which of those you'd choose says a lot about your finance knowledge, how to figure the beta score of Facebook or whatever matters but nowhere near as much.
Will getting a PMP certification really help me find a job?
By the way, I only have a bachelor's degree in business and I'm 64 years old.
>>1029204
the thing that helps you find a job are the people you know. other than that, you need the requirements (certification, degree, etc.) PLUS 5 years of relevant experience to really have a chance if no one knows you where you are applying.

Guys really brief question about SEO
if I make a pinterest, and then put a bunch of images of sexy girls in a folder, and i rename the files of everyone of those images something like
buttplug buttplug buttplug buttplug buttplug
and then upload 60 of those files to that pinterest.
will that pinterest page score high in google searches for 'buttplug' ?
is this sort of how SEO works?
>>1028867
bump
>>1028867
This is the opposite of how SEO works.
1) Google strongly dislikes sex & porn-related search terms & websites.
2) That's straight up keyword stuffing/spam, another thing it hates.
3) Images of "Sexy Girls" or buttplugs is not what Pinterest values. Neither does its users. Why would Pinterest reward your page for this?
Wait. You're trying to blackhat someone, aren't you?
If you're trying to use Pinterest to trick Google into giving you Love, you could create an account dedicated to a variety of ways that make the average person's day better. Share tons of content for a good amount of time. Be active. Start sharing really bland, but original ideas with the URL attached. It's spammy, but it works.
Was wondering if someone could clear something up for me: Why do some services ask you to pay for stock charts that aren't in realtime? What is the purpose of having charts that are delayed 15+ minutes? I'm having trouble wrapping my head around that even if you're not a trader. Why would someone pay to see charts delayed?
>>1028807
bump
I think you've got it backward. They want you to pay for realtime, otherwise you get the 15-minute delay.
