I work in a software company as a technical consultant/jack of all trades. I have an odd dilemma - I have to fill out a timesheet every week where I account for 40 hours of work, but there is probably 4 hours of work a week, tops.
I've been dealing with this by allocating like 30 hours a week to my "client issue" and "general technical work" boxes for the one client that gives me any work at all, and putting the rest into various categories like meetings, professional development, training, etc. I've talked to managers several times now about if there are any projects I can be assigned to but every time I get the same answer - we're just waiting for the sales team to sell some deals, which I can then implement and work on, but nothing at this time.
Now I don't think anyone is actually checking these timesheets, but if anyone who knew anything about this client were to, it would be pretty obvious that I'm massively inflating how much work I'm doing. Do you have any advice for basically creating new opportunities for myself to spend time on (or ways to waste time/become less efficient that I can actually justify if someone were to ask what I'm working on), so I can bill less time to this client? I really don't like what I'm doing, but I feel like it's the only thing I can do to not appear redundant (I'm going to look for a new job soon, but need to stay here for a few more months so it looks okay on my resume). Any advice is appreciated.

Why would anyone invest substantially in stocks when purchasing real estate/rental property results in an actual, tangible asset that isn't 90% marshmallowfluff
>>1036205
3 reasons:
1. Diversity
2. You can't invest in real estate until you have saved up a sizable deposit
3. Superior Liquidity
Barrier of entry is much lower for stocks. Also, property requires physically researching, while stocks research can be done sitting on your ass.

How do people even get into credit card debt?
I could understand getting into debt for something like student loans or something, but what are people buying with credit cards that they need in order to make money and that they expect will make them enough to pay it back?
One of mmy Junkie family members Racked up a couple thousand a month buying returnable Walgreens gift cards....
Simple, they make the minimum monthly payment significantly small. Lure you in with 0% interest for 12 months, followed by 17 to 24% after that. Really easy to convince yourself you'll pay it back later. Do this long enough, while maintaining the minimum, and having the card raise your limit without asking, it goes out of control. The key mistake made is using more money on the credit card than you have available in cash. Smart people can use credit cards to their advantage, but most aren't
>>1036159
This. And ignorance. I speak from experience :(
If only I could turn back time...
In order to make some more money this winter, I decided to start my own small business doing snow removal. I have no history in this business and am doing it on my own. I also got this going last minute and had trouble finding anyone who was both interested and that met my requirements (I don't have a plow so I can only do driveways, sidwalks, walkways, etc but no parking lots).
I approached an apartment management company and was given charge of shoveling for 4 buildings that didn't have caretakers. Because I don't have any professional experience and because they usually have someone do a wide range of caretaker responsibilities for $50 - $100 off rent, not just shoveling, I settled for very low pay: the first 5 snowfalls I do for free and the rest at $20 per building, snow to be removed by 7 at the latest in the am or 8 pm in the evening.
I got food poisoning this last week and wasn't able to go out and remove the snow we had. I called their office and left a message saying that I wasn't able to come out and apologized. Today, I got a bill - they hired someone else to remove the snow that day. The people they hired were not cheap and charged an additional free for coming out on emergency, without contract.
Do I pay the bill? Do I say screw them? Am I obligated and if not, do I pay anyways since I left them in a spot by not doing what I agreed to do? The bill is for $312.
Dont pay it.
Send them a letter back with the invoice and say you are disputing it.
If you didnt sign a contract with them then they cant do shit.
Disclaimer: im not a lawyer, but it's what i would do in this situation.
>>1036131
I think you can actually sue them for paying you less than minimum wage/hiring you without proper documentation. Regardless of what they were giving you off of your rent.
Send them a bill for 312$ to cover the harm they gave you from food poisoning
Let's say I wired $300k to a company account (not mine) in Hong Kong last year. And let's say that $300k gets wired back to my personal account in the US next year.
Does either wire transfer raise a flag/SAR or get automatically reported to the IRS?
Does it carry a tax reporting requirement on my next filing?
Thank you.
CTR will be filed but make sure you have docs as to where money came from if IRS asks
>>1036152
docs as in "invoices"?
What is SAR in this case?
When I see SAR, I think "special administration region", especially when talking about HK.
Did you invest in a company in HK?
Welp. I messed up. Big time. Now my credit card debt is too high. Trying to pay them down as best as I can, but most of my paycheck goes to bills, student loan, car payment, and rent. I surmise across 4 cards there is 12k I have to pay down. Trying not to get a second job since my first job takes up so much of my time (work 10-12 hours a day), but I will if it comes down to it. Is it worth it to get a loan? I don't really know anything about finances. Pls help.

What field isn't oversaturated?
literally none
>>1036022
This.
That doesn't mean you can't succeed in a crowded playing field. It just means you can't be below average and make it. That's why 47% of Americans don't make enough money to pay taxes.
Truck driver.
They'll be replaced by computers soon though.
I mean, everyone online says its fast paced and everything, but i started today, its slow as shit
Maybe you don't have enough money.
>>1035772
What did you expect? You're watching numbers tick up and down and setting auto sell points to help prevent loss. Yes, it's boring as fuck and compute programs exist to help with it for that reason.
Also, are you "day trading" or actually day trading?
If you don't have 25k in stocks or more right now you are very limited in what you can do. If you're stuck having to hold all stocks for 24 hours (USA laws) before selling then you're in the mock day trader class where it's especially slow and boring. If you're in the 25k and up class where you can buy and sell the same day, it gets more interesting but a lot riskier.

I still remember that talk to this day Which form of law should I study if I want to pick apart and ruin people's live at random?
I'm looking at UT Texas and would live off Campus so I can keep a gun in my house and car. I have roughly a dozen enemies. Know any GOOD Law Schools in pro-gun shall issue states?

Where are you interning this summer /biz/?
HP
>>1035647
Hey,
I'm not interning, but I run a small business.
Is it possible for me to get free labour for a month or two with 'internships'
How do I get them? Go to local community college, put up flyers?
Will anyone actually intern, or do people only want to intern for big companies?
>>1035944
Unpaid interns are not allowed to do work integral to the functioning of the company. They can watch and take notes, get coffee, maybe run some small errands and make copies but not much more than that.
How are you preparing for the impending crash of the housing bubbles?

The best you can do is to retire into comfy neetdom. Getting educated and working hard naturally procures a dank qt azn wife, and having her will keep you disciplined towards retirement. T a k e t h e p l u n g e.
I just got accepted into a top 30 United States MD program. If I don't get any scholarships, then I'm potentially looking at upwards of $300,000 of student loan debt by the time I'm in any position to begin paying it off.
Is this a financially sound decision? Lately I can't escape this nagging feeling that I may have been better off going into investment banking. I have the brains as well as the gut for it, but I always considered medicine a more noble profession. Now, as I grow older, I'm turning more and more into a money-hungry scumbag like the rest of society, and I just don't know anymore.
Practically speaking, is it feasible to work full-time as a doctor, play the stock market on the side, and still have time to have a life with your family ?
>>1035509
>Is this a financially sound decision?
let me get this straight for you. financially, these options are roughly equivalent if you dont get a scholarship:
- graduating as a Doctor in the US
- graduating as Doctor in Europe and own a house + Porsche
Your choice.
>>1035509
i dropped out of a lower tier MD school after a semester so i kind of have some valid input on this topic. (i didn't drop out because of finances but because i hated studying medicine and i didnt want to be working ridiculous hours for the rest of my life.)
your student loan balance is a non-issue. you will be financing your education with federal loans (grad plus loans.) grad plus loans are eligible for pay as you earn, whereby you pay (gross income - 1.5x federal poverty level for your family size) * 10% per year toward your student loans. do this for 20-25 years, i can't remember which, then your debt is forgiven. the amount forgiven is treated as taxable income.
as for the last sentence, most doctors outside of emergency medicine or family medicine are working 50 hour weeks at the minimum. youve made it this far so i assume you know all about the hours during residency and fellowship.
>>1035526
if you're implying that the OP go to europe for his medical education then you're a complete retard. shut the fuck up, get the fuck out of this thread and let the adults talk.
