yolo triple leveraged bear ETF on China

Say hello to the 1%

What's up /biz/, let's talk labor participation and real unemployment.

>CEO of Union Pacific, the largest railroad in the United States:
>... labor participation "is lackluster and consumers just don’t seem to be showing up to purchase goods and services."
http://finance.yahoo.com/news/union-pacific-ceo-says-consumers-184359496.html

This is the CEO of a company that does not sell consumer goods. All they do is deliver them. This means we aren't looking at one company in a slump. It's not that Apple isn't selling as many iPhones as they'd like. It's not that Best Buy isn't hitting its sales targets on TVs. It means that every single company isn't selling as much as it should be selling. This is not a side effect of companies being poorly run. It is a direct result of consumers not being able to afford they things they used to buy.

>But unemployment is only 5%! It's got to be something else!

You're right. It is something else, because the definition of "unemployed" has been changed by the BLS just about every year for the past 8 years. It's called "labor non-participation". This is all the people who can no longer accept unemployment compensation because they've been unemployed too long; they've given up.

Here's a chart. It was made with data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, so if there is any bias, it's in the direction of making things look better than they are.

Blue is the US population. Green is the total number of unemployed, plus the total number of "non-participating" working age adults. The red dashed line is the "out of work" percentage. Right now it's sitting at just under 32%. Mind you that's not 32% of just working age adults, that's 32% of the entire nation.

The rate of "out of work" people of working age, 16-64, is closer to 50%.

Things have not been this bad since non-participation first started being recorded. It probably hasn't been this bad since the Great Depression.

Things are much, much worse than you think. And they will only get worse.
>>
>>1054115
And because all they do is deliver them, they can't see many reasons _why_ they're not being purchased.

Back in 2003, you bought a 6-inch Marvel Legends Iron Man with 30 points of articulation, a completely unique sculpt, a diorama base, and a comic book packaged in a giant plastic clamshell for $6.99 retail.

Today, they're trying to sell me 4-inch "Marvel Legends" Iron Man with 12 points of articulation, mostly reused parts, no diorama base, and no comic book on a cheap cardboard blister card for $10.99 wholesale which they expect to retail for $14.99.

Barely 10 years and they want double the money for a quarter of the product.

I can bang on people for being poorfags until I'm blue in the face but that kind of inflation would be insane even without stagnant wages.

Hey biz,

Haven't been here in a while so I don't know if yall can help. This is a question directed to anyone else involved in ecommerce/shipping. For those who haven't heard, the usps did away with commercial base pricing for customers using their website to print postage. At the same time we also lost access to printing postage for regional rate boxes. What other options do I have now to still have access to commercial base pricing? Is stamps.com a viable route? Are there any other postage providers you recommend?

And general ecommerce thread I suppose

Sucks about the commercial rates, but oh well. Lately usps has been pretty horrible. Go ups.

My father is in need of cash to pay off various debts and is looking into refinancing his home worth approx 1.5m. He currently owes:

200k - mortage 3% interest.
30k - credit card debts 15% interest.
20k - miscellaneous.

His mortage provider (Scotiabank) is refusing to lend any additional money due to his 590 credit rating. He has a mortager broke "friend" who offered him an hard loan structured as:

300k - 350k.
Open mortage.
6% interest for 1 year.
2% fee of total amount (15k to set it up)

Now I don't understand why he needs to refinance his mortgage. Is he not able to take a smaller loan of say 50k and leave our current one intact?

Does he have a job? Why not just leave the mortgage alone and just pay the debts with his salary?
>>
>>1059549
Yeah don't refi. The credit cards look like the real problem here. See if he can't restructure/consolidate those or go to Lending Club and get a loan for that stated purpose.

Does day trading even give you profits? It's like monkey operating a ship. It knows the feedback when it moves the rudder left or right, but does it realize the rocks ahead of it?

Does anybody know a good book on market sizing, due diligence, business valuation, merges&acquisitions, etc. ?

Expensive and shit.
>>
>>1059417
He's got a point OP.

Pros are:
-you get to travel all over the place and meet new folks, try new things.
-no rent just BIG initial payment, of course fuel is a thing too, still better than rent

cons:
-shit hygiene/living conditions
-will have to revert to indian lifestyle and find some designated shittig streets/beaches/shrubs
>>
>>1059423
This sums it up, not much more to be said about it

Pros come down to:
*freedom*
*interesting experiences*
*overall low cost of living*

Cons
*Loser-ish lifestyle*
*Likely lack of cleanliness after a while*
*Lack of real 1st world comfort*

Any coin collectors here?

Also general coin vs paper thread.

I was wondering if there are any people here who collect their money in coins.

All the coin money I get goes into a special bucket. I've always been more a fan of coin money then paper money. Of course the big boys are paper but nonetheless I like having a lot of spare coin money on the side.

I got coins all from all over the worlds, Pesatos, Pesos, Dollars, Forints, Franc's Guldens, Rands, Deutsche Mark,,,, etc etc.

I've always that that if hyperinflation hits atleast I can save the coin money for in the future. Then collectors would want to buy it. Reich's mark's and Guilders and many more still sell for 1 euro a piece. Coin doesn't lose it's value so quickly, collectors will always be interested in it.

Can someone explain to me what the point of a landing page is?

I run an online business and right now I'm focused on marketing. My whole question is, let's say, just for the sake of example, that I'm selling bananas. Why not just direct my ads to the page that sells the actual bananas?

Why would I direct the consumer to a landing page that asks for a bunch of information and THEN ask them to still go to the page that sells bananas and hope (if they're not exhausted by this point) that they buy a banana.

Personally, as a consumer if I wanted to buy a banana I would want to just be directed to it. I wouldn't want to sign up to some mailing list and receive a free e-book or whatnot.

Are the all the articles on google saying that you need a landing page outdated? Or am I in the wrong?
2 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
Copywriter here.

First off, the point of a landing page is to present the product, the story behind it, benefits, proof, etc.

People don't know what they want. It's up to you to convince them that they want AND need your product.

Your example is not a good one. Every product on the internet has it's own special features that make it unique and different than anything else. The Landing Page focuses on those features and presents the product from a unique angle.

No one is going to buy bananas, but they sure as hell will buy "Handpicked Bananas From The Heart of The Caribbean" and pay extra for it.
