I don't see in what kind of markets these things will become an big hit in the near future though. Gaming? If so, who is going to make those games (probably not HTC). Movies, if so who will make those movies? Porn, if so, do you think HTC really wants to associate their products with porn? Short cool videos? Seems like hype that will last about 2 weeks.

I mean I can see how these things will be really big somewhere in the future, I just don't see it happening within the next 5-10 years. And who says that by that time HTC is still the best? Honestly I think it will only blow up when a company like microsoft / sony will start showing interest (because they can make games AND good hardware/software).

It's not always about what's best. More often, it's about what's best marketed and at what price.

Somewhere around 1985, Commodore released a computer called the "Amiga", which was a computer very superior to many around during that day.

But it didn't matter because IBM and apple were better at marketing, and TI and Tandy were better at price.

In the case of VR, I would avoid putting any serious money in now, and especially into HTC specifically, since they're probably not going to win the battle.

Oculus is partnered with both Facebook and Samsung, and Google (so far) is building a project on their own.

Both stand a better chance of taking over the market, since they already have their user base locked in.

That being said, VR is going to be huge. I have a Samsung Gear VR myself, and it's pretty spectacular.

Just as an aside, the manufactures don't need to be directly involved in porn. There's an app called "Milk VR" which is a generic VR viewer which allows you to easily drop files into a folder, bypassing the limits of Oculus or others.

That being said... VR porn is not to be believed. It is, simply, the greatest advance to porn since the invention of the VCR and will be MASSIVE in the industry.

Now the point here is that we no longer treat workers as a material that we can buy and get rid of whenever we want
For an example coal miners in coal mines, a worker was hired for lets say $20 per hour, but after a while the mine explodes or a few miners get cancer, no one considered paying for their health or caring about them, the job provider will instantly consider replacing them with other coal miners, sure they agreed for it but surely such risks can be avoided by spending more money into their safety or paying for their health and injuries.
So what I'm saying here, that you don't have to pay them money while they sit at home and do nothing, you can tell them to work and provide for you and so they become members of a family which is your company and that no matter what happens to them you'll help them out, they'll work simple jobs and you'll pay them a wage that is at least capable of feeding them.
Now you might say "ok what if everyone wants tk work at my factory with minimum skills and live off of that, well that won't happen because although it's enough to provide food it's still not enough to provide them with proper rent, or good housing or they won't be able to provide for their whole family, so they tend to work to their best and try and work harder to improve their living standards.
Now another thing is that you consult with these workers from all different skills and jobs, and ask them for ideas to improve the company (e.g a worker on a certain machine will tell you that his machine is working slower than usual and it's better to buy a new model that works faster) now why would they do that? Well because if your company succeeds more and you earn more money then you'll slowly give your workers better wages, and give those with great ideas a small raise, so that the richer you get, the richer they get.

So that if you get $10,000 increase in profit from that guys idea of buying a better machine, then you start paying everyone (let's assume you have 100 workers) 0.5$ extra due to profit and for that specific person you give him $1 raise amd so on, so the guy who contributes the most is the one who gets better raises and so on, eventually you'll have multiple people contributing to your company that you are no longer the only person comanding the company but you have others who help you, and you're just the person who owns the company and the creator of it.
But after a while when the community gets richer you are no longer the guy who owns the entire company because there alot of people who share much of the profit with you and take the heavy losses with you, and eventually those other people who contributed so much can expand your company with their money, you're still the manager but they also use their money to expand your company so they can get rich too.

So do you only work on commercial projects and no residential properties?

If so, you may want to expand into that market. I work in banking in Florida and there's still a lot of construction in central to south Florida but it seems to be slowing. A lot of foreigners are still throwing money around buying properties.

Also, what exactly do you do? Do you just provide cost estimations or do you actually provide roof work as well?

I mainly do commercial, although I do some residential, residential its too boring, I get excited over bigger numbers and margins.

What I do is I calculate materials and labor, and once we have a contract we are responsible for the installation of the roof. Although I do provide estimations to general contractors.

I work in banking and have met a fair amount of construction company owners. It seems cliche at this point, but networking is important. There should be associations for construction firms in your town where you can meet other owners. It won't help your margins but would help your volume, but building a relationship with some of the firms and offering a bit of discount could help.

Also, architecture firms in town are good to know as well. They'll often recommend a builder. Just write down the process for your job (like client>architect>general contractor>sub-contractors>your company) and try to find ins at every step.

Not sure. Seems very easy to get and keep a job if you don't know anything. But if you do, it's a serious fight every step of the way.
