I don't want to put it in the bank, but I also don't just want it to just sit there and depreciate.

What do?

There are many people here who want advice on making money and becoming rich.

I will give you advice, and it is very good advice.

Get off /biz/. Never visit 4chan again. Never, ever visit this website or this board another time. Shut down now and go away. It takes discipline but it is worth it. It is the best advice on getting rich you will ever get from here and deep down you know it to be true.

How will this help?
>>
>>1064256

People who get off 4chan just end up going Reddit to fill the void.

The only real solution for this is to turn off your internet, but then you don't have email or online banking.

This board has brought me to the attention of a few stocks worth keeping an eye on. Only a couple out of a hundred, but still.

Anybody have a job at the federal level through USAJobs?

Is GS05 level basically bachelors degree/no experience? Should I put down unrelated labour experience on my resume?

Trying to figure out what the hell im doing wrong to not have at least a soulless desk job with my non-stem degree.
6 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
If you are not a vet or military spouse, I wouldn't bother. Also, you want to start as high up as GS as you can becuase you CAB only move up 2 levels each year. But I've known E4 in the Army go to GS -12 positions in IT so aim higher.
>>
>>1063990

If you want a federal job and don't have prior experience doing something that qualifies you for a higher grade, start at the level offered. GS-5/7 or whatever.

What job is it? Yes, you will probably have a desk job. Working for the federal government will open your eyes to a reality that defies logic.
>>
>>1063990
OP, GS-05 is pretty much equivalent to a bachelor's with mediocre grades, while a GS-07 is for new graduates with at least a 3.5 I believe. Look up the Pathways program on USAJobs, it's open right now.

I work for the government as an engineer, started as a GS-07 and should end up as a GS-13 equivalent after a total of about 5 years.

McDonalds P/E Ratio is at 26.08 right now.

Isn't being an entreproneur literally the only way to get from Middle class to wealthy or rich?

No. It's also a common misconception that it's always better than stocks.

Competition will always be fighting your balance sheet, and your amount of liability/work can make it basically a job, whereas hobby analytics on securities can be done on the side of a job.
>>
>>1061780
Superrich? Sure.

wealthy enough to not need to work? Nah. Money Moustache and Early Retirement Extreme both give pretty good advice on how to wageslave for a short time only.

You can get to 1-5 millions doing it the slow way, maybe up to 10mm if you and your spouse are very well paid.
10mm+ is only available to you in a lifetime if you are an entrepreneur. It's all about that risk/reward.

You're missing the point of Apple. You can't buy it now; it's too cheap. You have to wait until it is 150 per share so you can bring your stock certificate into coffee shops and let people see how wealthy you are.

dear friends and family,

after lurking for a while now I've finally come to the decision to order something on the deep web.

I already have a PO across the border (inside EU) to ship to, the shop where I want to order delivers via DHL.

Besides tumblering my bitcoins, what else should i focus on? any insider tips for a first timer?

hey /biz/

I'm in my sophomore year at a state school and I'm an economics student. I just realized that this major sucks and that I don't give a fuck about about calculating GDP and shit. I am in an introductory web programming class (learning JavaScript) and I'm enjoying it more than any of my econ classes. I'm thinking of switching to computer science.

I never thought about majoring in CS before, but it feels like the right thing to do now. Am I screwed that I'm just learning how to do this at age 20?

I think I still want to go into data analytics/business intelligence, which was what I was going for with the economics degree. I've already finished a minor in economics, so I think majoring in cs with that minor would be attractive on a resume.

Are there any CS people that can tell me:

1) Your best advice for someone majoring in CS and pursuing a career working with computers
2) Your favorite tips, tricks, strategies, and resources for learning programming on your own
3) Anything else I might need to know

Easy: Don't do CS. Everyone does it and the degree is worth toilet paper. If you really, REALLY want to do CS go to a vocational school and get certified in as much computer crap as possible.

Learning to program on your own is smart. MAKING STUFF and putting it out there is smarter. That's what a portfolio is. Here's a few languages worth learning depending on if you're allergic to linux or not. If you are allergic to linux, GIVE UP ON CS NOW. Frankly, Windows/Mac is plebe tier and Linux is where the money is.

> Learn me
Python (linux & moar), Java (not JavaSCRIPT!), C++ (oldfags mostly but might be OK. Lower priority)

> Ignore
Visual.Net, Visual Basic, Anything made by microsoft (ex: visual.net, Silverlight), Flash

> Only useful if you want to be a webpage-maker or tinker on servers. Otherwise AVOID
JavaSCRIPT, HTML/CSS (not programming languages), Ruby

Almost forgot: https://www.codecademy.com/
They're great and not expensive. You can go there and find out fast if programming is for you.

PROTIP: Do a level, then stop for the night. The next day, do the next level. If you do it all at once it will never sink in (unless you're keen on repeating it all every week).

Also I suggest making stuff outside of the tutorial as practice. It helps things sink in better.

I want to build up a private income from stocks and bonds.

Specifically, I'm buying for dividends and coupons, not for appreciation of stock or bond value.

As far as I can tell, 5% is an average annual return.
I would reinvest three fifths of the return to counter inflation, then keep two fifths as income.

I am obscenely patient, which is just as well, because I have to start small.
I want to establish an inflation proof income with the value of $1 per day. Then I'll do it again, and again, and again. But baby steps.

Based on my figures, $365 per year represents two fifths of a 5% return, so I would need $18,250 (100%) in capital to get it.

So, suppose I had 18K. Where and how in the USA or the EU should I invest it to get reliable 5% return?

7.7 is the s&p return over time, dont go for dividends, buy stocks and sell the gains and just pay the asmall 15% capital gains tax and you'll be a few % ahead of things over time (go play with a compound interest calculator and see what 1% does over 20 years when youre talking real money)

So going from lets call it a 7% return, with you having to reinvest 3% to hedge against inflation (you said youre being conservative) that leaves you 4% drawdown from the nestegg per year

meaning for every 1 dollar a day you earn you need 9125 dollars in the nest egg.

im kind of ashamed to make this thread, but heres the deal: i have 5-7 days left to prepare for my microeconomics, macroeconimics and foreign trade exams. the reason why i havent studied earlier for them, whether you believe it or not, was because i was hospitalized for weeks due to a car accident and later had to have some reconstruction of my set of teeth. anyway, i could skip these exams, but i feel like it should be doable to prepare enough for them in order to pass, grades dont matter at this point (micro and macro are leftovers from basic studies and im pretty much done with main studies and need to pass those exams so i can move on to the practical semester and write my bachelor thesis).

so heres my question and the tl;dr: whats the best way to prepare for the upcoming microeconimics, macroeconimics and foreign trade exams within 5-7 days, as in.. what books to read, online courses to watch, what other resources are available to understand the main concepts, are there things like "cheat sheets" (much like there are some to help calculate gdp, etc)?

oh and if you think im fucked and should forget about it, feel free to let me know.

it's managable if you already have a good foundation in economics

since micro is the analysis of preferences of households or sole individuals

macro is the analysis of the ecomonomy as a whole

better check out some sparkcharts to give you a quick overview
