Hey guys, I run a successful startup, and recently invested $1.2m into stocks (6 months ago), managed by a company for a fee.
Despite my investments being down by around 2.5%, i think they've done a great job mitigating the losses over this period. 2.5% down is far better than everyone else's performance over the past 6 months that i've spoken to.
However, all this doom and gloom lately has been making me nervous, and I'm seriously considering pulling all my money out, and waiting for a crash.
I just had a meeting with them today, and they recommended i stay in, and that even if things go sour soon (which they don't think is the case), my portfolio will still flourish in the long term.
I don't disagree with them, however, i'm concerned i may be missing an opportunity to double or triple my money.... and I can't shake the feeling that they just don't want me to pull out.
Would love to hear some random peoples opinions. Thanks.

Did you expect them to say otherwise??? Rofl...
>>1066777
Pull out half. If there really is a chance to "double or triple your money" then you increase your worth by 50% or double. If it doesn't happen, and you suffered a 2.5% loss, it's no big deal.
>i'm concerned i may be missing an opportunity to double or triple my money....
Who isn't? That's investing for you.
whoa bros I think I just figured out how to print money legally...
>buy 4k worth of stuff under a store's 12 months no interest plan

You basically just described a carry trade except for the average joe.

Hey guys.
Above is a link to a web based portfolio rebalancer that I originally just wrote for myself. I got tired of looking up quotes and punching numbers into a calculator manually, so I wrote a little app that speeds things up considerably.
All you have to do is punch in the symbols of your holdings and the number of shares that you own. Stasis (that's what I'm calling this thing) will get live-ish (20 min delay) quotes from Yahoo Finance. Then, you will need to enter the target allocation percentage for each holding. Finally, you can opt to enter the dollar amount of new contributions that you will be making. Hit 'calculate', and Stasis will give you number of shares you need to buy/sell of each holding to reach target allocation in the 'difference' column of the table.
Vanguard allows you to export your holding information as a CSV. So, I made it so that you can import this holding information directly into Stasis. All you have to enter is a target allocation percentage for each holding before calculation. Stasis can also import VMMXX (Vanguard Prime Money Market fund) holdings as a new cash contribution or as its own holding.
The project's source is located on Github: https://github.com/jf-rce/Stasis
Hopefully some of you can make use of this thing. If you have any suggestions/requests, please feel free to post an issue on the Github repo. Cheers m8s

Hey /biz/,
I'm looking at putting some money into a mutual fund or etf and wanted to know which would be the best to go with. Im looking at investing about $5,000 straight up with recurring monthly deposit.
I was going to use vanguard australia but not sure which mutual/etf is best. Any help would be great.

A mix of vangard funds. Chances are you're young, so something like 50% domestic stocks, 25% intl stocks, 25% domestic bonds.
Hard to go wrong. I did like 20% long term bonds and 80% large cap stocks.
You can dick around trying to pick the funds that have the highest returns over the past 5 years, but I can tell you it didn't save me this past month.

What is your outlook on stocks for the US marijuana industry?
Will federal regulations kill any potential money-making opportunities, or are things set to explode?
Do you think banks will ever take money from marijuana-related businesses, or is cartel-oriented security always going to be necessary?
Have you paid attention to the states that have legalized?
Also, congress?
As long as MJ legality goes state by state you will not see any stocks.
A MJ IPO would require the federal government end it's prohibition nationally ( instead of the current non-interference). As of now their is basically no will for this kind of action on the federal level, and until that changes its not worth discussing.
MJ will be private equity for the forseeable future

Some stocks already exist, though.
CANN comes to mind.

Hey /biz/
Would you take a guaranteed $100k or a 50-50 shot at 1mil?
I'd play the variance game and take my chances. 100k wouldnt change my life.
A better question would be: whats the minimum amount of money that would cause you to quit your job and completely change the course of your life?
$100k would change my life big time. No need to risk not getting anything.
So $100k.
>>1062716
100k, because I know what investments to get for more then a million return
I have an idea for a hoax that would generate a ton of public interest. It would be frontpage of reddit, talked about on 4chan, reported on hundreds of news blogs and possibly make national television news as well. And the best thing is, I wouldn't break any laws.
Now how do I use this attention to maximize my profit? What can I say in the spotlight that will make people give me their money? Promote my shitty ecommerce site? Create a pre-mined altcoin and shill it in public? There have to be ways to cash in big.
Interested in this as well. Bumping for answers.

I don't think I understand. Are you saying you have an idea for a lie you can tell and want to convert it into money? Fact checking will usually turn around on you in a day and the most you can hope for is high one-day traffic to a website and becoming distrusted if you get linked to it.
tl;dr not a good idea

What does this mean?
I have a bunch of friends with Japanese wives. Do their families back in Japan need to put their money in the mattress?
>>1066652
Japan has been experiencing the slowest seppuku ever. Zero hedge also wrote about this possibility, fwiw
The negative rate is on excess reserves held at the central bank. This is an attempt to increase the opportunity cost of holding excess reserves so as to discourage financial institutions from doing so.

Help me.. I need your guidance
Im 27, live in southern California and live in my parents guesthouse and at my girlfriend's house. I have 12k in savings, own 2 vehicles, 30k in a 401k and another 35k in my eTrade account that is not invested.
I work as a production supervisor and make 64k a year, I have been doing it at this location for 5 months and another for a year. I hate this job, I dread coming in every day. It's a very easy job, but I just dont want to do it.
Here's the thing.. I never took school seriously and have like 20 units at a community college. I dont know if its it's worth going back and getting a degree at this point, but one thing I do know is I cant do this job forever. My VP and Area Management like me, so im likely to move up again in the future, but working in Operations will be the death of me.
Any suggestions?! Please and thank you.

>explain to friends that they shouldn't buy the dip yet because the market is still overvalued and China is trolling everyone with smoke and mirrors
>explain to them that the Fed will be forced to reduce their interest rates back to 0.25% before August 2016
>explain to them they are better off putting up some hedges against short-term corporate euro bonds, the CNY, the RUB, and going long on bitcoin (not the fake ass ethereum bullshit)
>they then say: "if you're such a smartass, why can't you get a job?"
why do ppl do this
>>1065960
They're right.
No one wants advice from some retarded neet who literally read that from someone on /biz/ or zerohedge that sounded smart.
It's the equivalent of some fat ass coming up to people at the gym and telling them how to do exercises and critiquing them.

Hey guys. I'm not sure if I'm posting in the tight thread, but.
Last February I applied for food stamps, and was homeless. since then, I got a job, and moved in with my girlfriend.
I never updated my information with social services.
What's going to happen to me?
If you didn't tell social services about your new job and you're making over what they consider is the limit, they're gonna cut you off and probably make you pay back what they paid you in food stamps.
>>1065686
Being social services though, they're problobly look at my current income and finance reasonable payments if that's the case. At least I'm hoping.
>>1065693
Hopefully. Good luck.
Bro....... absolutely happening. This chart shows the highest peak in 2008 and the bottom crash which is what we are having again right now. This is a 2nd crash 2008 style crash. Everyone is being quiet about it but this is clear as day. Same pattern same flow into the red. We're in for another big global crisis.
>>1065096
Not only that but World War III is going to take us out of this one too into the new age of aquarius where robots make things easier. Aliens will reveal their presence. It takes blood to have freedom. We have to see horrifying death to love one another again. Like 9/11 made people patriotic.
>>1065096
Nice graph you've got there. Next time consider leaving the title and vertical axis or it might as well be a graph of party clown retirement rate or oyster tastiness
