Does anyone else pretend for social/business benefits?
Do you ever make up stories at work or try to seem more knowledgeable(or maybe even less) or to have more/less social status?
Personally I have very few friends but I read a lot and watch pop culture movies and stuff so I just make up stories.
>So anon how was your long weekend? Do anything cool?
>"Why yes Wendy, in fact I actually went downtown with some buddies and we had a wild time! [Make up some more shit that sounds believable] and that reminds me! We were doing x and then [unnecessary information to make story seem truthful] Brad got too drunk and he did [crazy/embarrassing thing]!"
This type of stuff seems to make you more socially valuable and now your coworkers look up to you and try to compare their lives to you rather than look down on you and feel (perhaps subconsciously) superior to you.
I also like to make up girlfriends I've had so that I seem more high value. Rather than telling someone I've had barely 2 gfs.
But I also do the opposite. It feels like whenever someone finds out I have extensive knowledge of a topic(s) or (modest) wealth they begin to bombard me with questions. It feels as though they either get jealous or bitter/angry because they try to always poke holes in what I succeeded at.
>Oh you did x in y time? YEAH WELL MY COUSIN DID X*2 IN Y*0.8 TIME!
At first I spent extensive time replying truthfully but now I tend to play dumb and downplay anything or feign uncertainty/doubt in my knowledge.
Just wondering if anyone does anything similar or has some interesting stories to share as to how it's noticeably benefitted them one way or the other. As well as bring the idea up since I know a lot of people on here are used to "always being right"/truthful as a side effect of *Chan.
Well?
consciously or unconsciously you're controlling your image in other people's eyes.
Be the best version of yourself. If you really want to go rampaging with friends all day do it.
If the person you want to be is 10 steps ahead and the truetrue will stop you cold, omit it.
Generally act cordial and friendly and ease people into your weirdness.
Imagine you have a choking fetish. You don't just go around, If you choke me I'll choke you. You get a little intimate and then ask/tell/confess. and that's life its a bit of a dice roll. and there's a general order of operations.
Learn to master the art of the humble brag and of subtle high value cues.
People asking for advice is a sign of Success. It automatically brings authority. Get used to it and frame it appropriately. "I'm happy to answer a few questions but this really isn't the best venue, call me at this number at this time"
People one upping you is also a social cue that you've risen in their estimation and their own position is threatened. Just fully commit. "Really, your cousin sounds great. I'd like to meet him or her. When can you introduce us b/c I always like to meet people in ζ field. Its so hard finding good people to work with."
A mentor of mine became a multimillionaire before he was 25. Now to occupy his day he teaches at the local community college to give back. He's always telling girls he lives with his parents. He omits that its his house. He drives a honda to work b/c of gas mileage but omits that he has custom built hot rods in the garage. Because the gold diggers come out fast and furious.
Money is a serious motivator and girls will act way differently.
Learn to manage your image anon and respond to these situations in productive ways that benefit yourself and those around you.
What! are you afraid you'll lose if you have more fun, sex, money, opportunity, a name for yourself.

So I know a way to make an annual almost precisely 104% roi on an investment, guaranteed.
What to do with info?
Should I sell the info or just do it myself and roll in the cash?
do it yourself obviously
>inb4 it involves too much risk
>>1151854
There is only one real risk and it's mitigated by other components of the investment that guarantee the return.
Take out as much loans as you can.
Then do it 10 times and you've now become a billionaire.
>inb4 reason why you can't do that
Yeah nah you're bullshitting.
>work as a BA, we're doing some work for an insurance underwriting agency
>get a CC on an email from the boss to the client
>"Hi client, attached is a blend of the rate requirements you supplied combined with your current system. Please tell us if you'd like anything changed"
>attached is a spreadsheet of the rates
>each rate has its formula and function explained explicitly, for their convenience and readability
>client emails back with just one line
>"I'm sorry I don't understand"
This isn't even my problem and yet I'm practically tearing my hair out
what is WRONG with people? THESE ARE EXPERTS OF THEIR FIELD
MANAGING DIRECTORS OF COMPANIES

I'm thinking of becoming a BA in the future. Should I reconsider it?
>>1151638
Yeah I'll just my telepathic powers to work out whether you're suited for the job or not
>>1151640
I'm not referring to my own abilities, which in general are well suited to the job. I'm just asking if the job in general is shitty and frustrating, as your OP implied.
No need to bite my head off m8.
I couldn't resist and bought VRX. Down over $1000 already. Is it oversold or am I fucked?
>inb4 should have bought cryptobullshit
>>1151571
As long as you bought after Tuesday, I'd try to ride it out.
They have enough net assets to get bought out by a bigger company.
It's French Canadian, so Canada and Quebec will throw money at it to stay afloat.
>>1151571
Yeah
Valeant is likely to default, so they're gonna have to sell core assets to meet the creditors claims
Looks like it's going to shit bro
>>1151571
>be australian
>here about valeant all the time on the bloomberg
>look in medicine cabinet in the bathroom
>half the products are from valeant
it's a big company with lots of real products, how is it fucking up so bad?
extremely volatile
majority of participants don't have a clue about how these coins work, don't even know basic coding
therefore unable to compare value of different coins
the very few who understand the technology are still unable to assign an objective intrinsic value
a few whales have complete control over the value of any coin.
Swap the word coin, for Bitcoin, Etreeum, Syscoin, tulips, it's all the same. It has cuck marketwritten all over it, and cucks rush right into it because they are too proud to even acknowledge their own ignorance. The lucky ones who get in an out in time get away with it a few times and then get washed out, because they made money the same way others were losing, without any remote understanding of the product they're dealing with.

I have 110 bitcoin, what shitcoin should I pump? :^)
Anyone have any groups I could join to make shekels?
>>1151370
Pump AGRS.. It's supposed to be a better version of ETH in some ways. It's still in presale so super cheap. I heard about it on Bitcointalk. You can trade for it on Bittrex
>>1151370
Pump Pepecoin. It'll rise purely on its meme-ness.
Pump DGB pls, popular coin among gaymerz
A general question for STEMfags, particularly engineers: how incompetent does someone have to be to get fired from a staff engineering position making ~$75k to falling back on a job making ~$55k as an engineering technician?
If you saw this on a resume would you conclude that the individual must be incompetent?
>>1151297
If they only had one thing on their resume, I would assume the person is incompetent. yes.
>>1151303
They have a college internship, the one job as staff engineer, then the job loss and reduction in pay, shifting to another employer.
So they can be assumed to be incompetent? How'd they slip through the cracks?
When did he get let go? If it was during a downturn then he may have just been unlucky.
You fucking idiots, at the beginning of this year everyone was saying THE HABBENING was HABBENING and I believed it cause shit was falling faster a brick at terminal velocity. DJI was at like ~15k points but now its back to its peak.
COULD HAVE MADE ~11% GAINS IN LIKE 2 MONTHS IF I DIDNT LISTEN TO YOUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU
that's what you get for being a stupid weaboo
>He listened to /pol/-retard doomsdayers
Hahahahahahahaha
How do you deal with the regret of not buying of mining bitcoins early on. I fucking hate it, I wish I could travel back in time and mine some shitcoins.
Regret hurts more than achievement desu SENPAI.
all crypto cuck coins are insider scams

Just fucking buy ETH. ETH will make bitcoin look like childsplay.

Alright fags, enough of the anecdotal bias bullshit college ranking major. How about some fucking data, eh? Here we have the REAL college major ranking. Ranked by highest earning to lowest, because its all about the $$$.
http://www.payscale.com/college-salary-report/majors-that-pay-you-back/bachelors?page=22
pic related is top majors excluding all the engineering shit at the top of the list.
BTW, this is by BACHELOR DEGREES.
>implying ur fee-fees matter more then data
you missed Actuarial Science, it's #3.
The mid-career pay is also bullshit. I'm 30 and making twice that.
>>1150874
hey, i can transfer to actuarial from my engineering, but, i will have wasted a year of my life.
Thoughts? Are actuaries limited, or can they branch out to other jobs in finance?
>tfw EE in training to be a nuclear operator
Literally 300k a year salary after 5 years
How can I sell food in my high school at a price that will benefit me and what foods do I sell ? THANKS!
don't.
If your school has a lot of black people, but those bulk hot Cheetos/slicy variety box chips. Also honey buns, all from Sam's Club. Sell for a dollar per bag of chips, maybe 1.50 for the buns. Chips should cost a little over 10 bucks and come with 30 bags. South Floridafag, here.
just sell soda cans for $1 each. you'll probably get caught within a couple months but you'll make a few hundred bucks.
Is nursing /biz/ approved? All you need is a 2 year degree to make 60k a year. And with a masters degree you can make over 100k easy.
I dropped out of engineering because it made me want to kill myself. Is nursing a good path? Should I get a bachelors or an associates degree?
/biz/ approved no diggity. Job is assured, you work hard, it is closely related to medicine itself, which is a noble profession.
It's just not for dudes.
>>1150726
muh gender roles
I know male nurses who are cool as hell
if you want to be a nurse prepare yourself to work hard and possibly get dirty

>Bitcoin is too slow, won't scale
This is a meme by low-IQ casuals. The thing is, BTC is not only already a better safe haven than Gold in ever aspect possible, but it will scale to surpass VISA and all the competition as well.
First of all, im here to get rich, and there's a ton of potential growth in BTC, I don't care if it never becomes a successful "paypal" so to speak, the real value is on a "Gold 2.0" approach. There's trillions of potential growth on there as physical cash dies. Marketcap is only 6bn now.
The thing is, it will deliver the most decentralized, fast and cheap payment alternative too.
The Lightning Network can potentially outdo VISA in any case.
To achieve much higher than 45,000 transactions per second (VISA's peak) using BTC requires conducting transactions off the BTC blockchain itself. It would be even better if the BTC network supported a near-unlimited number of transactions per second with extremely low fees for micropayments. Many micropayments can be sent sequentially between two parties to enable any size of payments.
“If a tree falls in the forest and no one is around to hear it, does it make a sound?”
Whether tree fallin makes a sound questions the concept of relevant information affecting the wider universe, if nobody is around to hear the tree falling, then whether it made a sound or not is of no consequence. Similarly, in the blockchain, if only two participants care about a transaction, it’s not necessary for all other nodes in the BTC network to know about that transaction. It is instead preferable to only have the bare minimum of information on the blockchain. It is desirable for two individuals to net out their relationship at a later date, rather than detailing every transaction on the blockchain. This can be achieved by using time locks as a component to global consensus. As a result, Bitcoin can scale to billions of
transactions per day with the computational power available today on a modern desktop computer.
>Lightning Network will take Bitcoin to the next level and kill all competition
This is exactly why there is a big FUD campaing by Gavinistas against Blockstream
"muh Blockstream want to centralized and kill Bitcoin"
And since most people are morons without technical knowledge some may buy into it.
They know that once that kicks in all their excuses for their power grab attemps (like XT then Classic) wouldn't work again. The "let's raise the blocksize Bitcoin is collapsing" excuses will be done by then.
They hate that an objectively better developer team is getting things done and making technology to realistically scale Bitcoin while keeping the core of Bitcoin as decentralized as possible. They hate this because they will not be able to control the nodes by bribing the big datacenters that they want to run nodes so they can have it all nicely located, instead of random people under TOR running the nodes (Core approach)
Bitcoin Core + Lightning Network + Sidechains = Get ready, this is actually Bitcoin 2.0 and none of the altcoin scams/hardfork attemps like Bitcoin Crapssic
Good times ahead.

You do want a return to the clintonian politics that led to the roaring 90's right?
I mean if you're a 90's kid then hillary should be your only option.
The clintons are always a two'fer.
You get Hillary
You get based Bill.
2 term clinton basically confirms 2020's will be the roaring 20's.
Do you honestly think you know better than Warren Buffet?
