So should I start applying /biz/? Or have I just watched Office Space too many times?

Lok eth will drink your milkshake.

Halving will flop and you will all be poor.

I set up an account with an online stock brokerage and bought one stock (like one unit of stock from one company) several years ago. I just forgot about it eventually and never included it in tax filings. I still have my one stock there, but I never sold it. Am I ok tax wise? It was like 1 something and now it's like 3 something.

If I wanted to sell it would I have to file this year? How do taxes for stocks work exactly?

>>
>>1177601
You pay income tax on the dividends payed to the shareholders and on the gain made on the selling of your share.
>>
>>1177601
If you never sell your share you never pay income taxes on those assets. That's a strong tool to build capital and shows the advantages of choosing stocks that don't pay dividends to shareholders and instead use all their net income to grow the business.
>>

>>1178214

Shit so I guess I probably should've been filing every year. I'm sure I got some dividend pennies. I just like doing everything by the book.

>biz analyst job opening wants "extremely motivated" applicants with STEM degrees and a strong hunger for solving "exciting" problems

How the FUCK was I supposed to know that I had to learn SQL and VBA in my STEM degree when it wasn't even offered as an elective????

>>
>>1177525
Because "business analyst" has no standard definition and varies from company to company. The one you're looking at probably errs more on the side of data analysis.

For instance, I'm an "operations analyst" and it basically involves me doing shit for people in the company over the phone.

Most "analyst" titles are vague and ill-defined. Just keep searching for ones that are more in your wheelhouse.
>>
you can learn enough sql and vba to land that job in a week or two, I don't have experience with vba, but sql language is really easy and straight forward
>>
learning new things is the best part
Like starting over as an analyst when you're almost 40. Fun

# Bitcoins, Litecoins, ...coins

Which are the good alternatives to bitcoin?

# cold-storage and hot-storage: I read various mainstream sites on this issue,
I plan to have Multibit as cold-storage, while should I set up a web wallet for
hot-storage?

Am I doing it wrong? Also, recommendations about exchanges, as how to change
Bitocoins into something else as fiat money or drugs.

Finally the openbazaar.org initiative really intrigues me.

Wtf is bitcoin
>>
>>1177498

Investing in bitcoin is retarded. You may as well play the lottery or buy scratch cards if you think it will one day jackpot and pay off for you. Just because it happened one is no guarantee it ever will again. Trading crypocurrency is brilliant though. Simpler and less stable that forex and you can turn a profit when cashing out to fiat as well.

Learn about trading currency pairs and you can make good money doing it. Or buy low and sell high on localbitcoins for 5% profit on every trade if you want to go though the hassle of dealing with banks and fraudulent transfers.

There are no alternatives to bitcoin, but there are plenty of crypto currencies to trade it against.

You have much to learn.

ANYONE FAMILIAR WITH BILL COLLECTORS?

Sup /biz/ I'm not sure if this is the right place for this but I recently received a letter from the State Of California demanding for payment. It reads "court-ordered debt collections" and insists that I pay it in full or face actions such as garnishing, seizing property, etc. Is this just another bullshit scare tactic or should I be legitimately worried? The fee I owe to collections is $950 and right now I have no source of income. I know people that have dodged these fuckers all their lives so I feel like I'm just taking this way too seriously (being my first run in and all) it says call back if payment creates undue hardship (which it will) should I even bother calling back or should I just carry out, trying to pay it as I go? I'm trying to get a new job because I'm not trying to NOT drive for the next 10 years. If it helps, I'm 20, don't have any other debt or criminal records (it's a fucking parking ticket) and I received it in January, 2015. Halp me pls

Where is the letter actually coming from? Usually states hire debt collecting agencies to do the collecting and they have no power to do any of that stuff unless they get a court order, for which they should have sent you a notice and a court date.

Just contest it.
>>
>>1177449

What is the debt from?

The only things the state can order money collected from are:

- student loan debt
- legal situations like child support, alimony, a civil suit, etc...

Any debt from a business organization, would never be turned to the state for collections without a legal judgement against you.

Sounds like a phony letter.

Debt companies are always trying out new tricks.

Those are expensive, for-profit scams. Yes, WGU has little/no name recognition, but is reputable. If you need a name brand degree, you're going to pay for it.

I'm doing Accounting at WGU right now. My studies are as follows:

1. Read textbook.
2. Do optional multiple choice and fill-in-the-blank practice problems.
3. Take finals.

There are also recorded lectures and live webinars if you need them, but the textbook reading is required and sufficient without attending webinars.

It can be a great education if you study diligently, or you can skate through like a brick and mortar school and not get half the benefit that a dedicated hard worker would get. I'm going to be a perfectly competent Accountant for $6000 and one year of 40 hours/week studying.

Inflation - 2%

This is the entire reason why people expose their money. They need to expose it because if not, then they would just slowly lose money. So, the first and most important reason for getting into the markets is to protect what you have.

Then, you have to utilize your capital. You want income. Either to produce or to benefit. (starting a company; buying preferreds) (this is like renting out a house)

Then, after you've gotten your risk managed and your income set, you then may focus on equity appreciation. Though, you don't want to do this with any principal. You only want to do this with the interest you get from the income. Though, you're most likely not going to get a good deal on a stock buying under the quote by 10% or so, like you would strive to do when buying a house for flipping purposes. So, you'd most likely just buy shares of company A and let them set for 10 or so years.

Though, what's the point of letting your capital sit without producing income? You want cash flow. You NEED cash flow.

Capital protection; Income production; Equity appreciation. In this order.

Or you could become a politician and start a business and lobby your competition out of the marketplace and force the taxpayers to buy your products. (pic related)

Brace yourselves. ICPT is going to the moon with their new drug, Obeticholic Acid, for the treatment of primary biliary cirrhosis.

The spike I outlined in the pic is not a split. It's a previous drug approval.

Give me one good reason why ICPT won't skyrocket again.

You posted this after an 18% spike. I hope you know that.

Of course I know that. That is why I am sounding the alarm bells....The 18% spike is a just a prelude to the fucking 300+ % spike that is to come when the drug gets approved.
>>
But i dont think they will do the same kind of jump coming from theire high level though. The initial spike they had was theire first product.

Why do you think they will go so high?
