I'm in a dilemma.
What did you all major in, and/or what do you see as the most promising majors?
>>1219449
It's all about the network, senpai.
Bump for interest.
>>1219449
Are you stuck between 2? That's usually what I see. What are they?
So I just started my first job out of college. I majored in accounting & finance and since mid january I work at a small accounting/auditing firm. Kinda like PKMG, PwC but we're just 8 people.
However, I fucking hate it there. I thought accountants being boring was just a meme, but fuck it's so true. Some days, there are poeple in the office who go through the whole work day without saying anything more than "Hello" and "See you tomorrow" to anyone. I used to work at a hotel for a few years before and during college and atleast the coworkers were hilarious there. Plus most of the girls were kinda hot too.
Accounting is boring as shit. I realize that it's a good marketable skill to have, but let's not pretend that it's actually enjoyable because it's not. I took the job to learn a hard, maretable skill, and I now have the skills to manage a companies finances in the day-to-day operations. The only major accounting skill I lack is closing the books and producing an annual report.
But the worst part is the commute. For every 8 hour work day I spend 12 hours away from home. It's killing me. And it's not like I can work on the train because all of our work is based on having papers and folders and shit. It's just lost god damn time that I'll never get back. Some weeks when I'm feeling very stressed, it feels like I can't think. I can't plan ahead and my mind is just mush. I hate it.
So my question is I guess, how soon can I get another job without it hurting my career? I was thinking of staying a year, but I don't think I can hold out for so long. Would it look weird if I held my first job just for 6 months?
anyone?
tl;dr: how soon can one change their first job out of college without hurting ones career?
>>1219335
mate it's OK
we all have been young and made mistakes. Obviously you shouldn't be jobhopping all the time; but if you hate it there, it is okay to change. No point in remaining in a job you hate, and desu your coworkers sound like exceptional cunts.
Just make sure you don't do anything retarded. Start job hunting now and hold it out until you have a new position. Tell your employer you are leaving within the adequate time, and this is it.
>>1219335
Quit now, you'll work it out.
Do not waste your life doing something you hate.
So, I wasted like a good NINE years of life meandering about; some of which included studying psychology and dropping it for being unprofittable and politicized bullshit. And for being an unmotivated cunt, too.
Can you guys give me any advice? At 27 years I'm considering architecture or just some technician stuff but I'm kinda scared of leaving it half-way as I did with other things before.
neo-/adv/ is useless as always
youre getting old. you cant afford to fuck around anymore.. just study something thats lucrative and you enjoy doing, or start your own business. do your own thing
>>1219616
Any suggestions?
I mostly like writing and building gunpla shit. I thought of starting as a comics' writer, but that's not lucrative at all.
>>1219633
What do people who like comics buy/do? Carve out a niche and make money from them. Then work on your own semi-related stuff in the meantime.
I need some advice /biz. Im a student and I have 10k saved, Im taking the bus, metro and walking a shit ton to go to class and post school activities, desu its annoying and tiring. I was wondering if it would be wise to invest in a car? Or should i suck it up and invest the 10k somewhere else to make more money?
>>1218874
Buy a cheap-ass car. Well, not CHEAP, but you know what I mean. Something from like 2007. Make payments on it and build credit, too.
Man needs a car. I say do it.
Don't go TOO cheap.
I just got a used Honda last month, and Im pretty happy with it.
Let's say I have $10 million dollars in my possession
Would buying a gas station at a prime location be a good business to get into or is there other more lucrative business investments I could be making?
The gas station would also have a car wash on site, small coffee shop (Tim Hortons) inside the gas station, and have a small grocery section.
Pic very related
There's no point in these role-playing fantasy threads. Whether its a good or bad idea, what the fuck is that going to do for you? You can't do shit anyway.
gas stations don't make much money (for the owner).
if I had $10 mil and had to buy a business, I would buy a tech business that's already bringing in a lot of money and growing. why would you want to deal with all these physical products when you can make money with software/applications?
literally just buy a 5 bedroom house and rent the rooms out. you'll make more than whatever a gas station makes which is nothing
I've got around 4k to throw at some penny stocks, what does /biz/ recommend (inb4 GXY)
Thoughts on SKLN stocks?
MESO
Don't actually buy that shit you buy it to sell it the next day to make some quick cash, you can easily make 10% several times a week. However you will never be able to do that holding onto these penny stocks and hoping they go up like half those companies are just fucked
Can anyone recommend some books on increasing your charisma and social skills? Are meme books like 48 Laws of Power and How To Win Friends and Influence People worth reading?
Yes, they are worth reading. Read HTWFAIP first.
>>1217128
I suggest "The 7 habits of hight effective people". Books to manipulate people basically have you lie because you come up short. Fuck that. "What kind of drugs can I take to be competitive in a foot race?" Wrong. "I'm fat, what kind of surgery should I get?" See what I'm getting at? If you improve your core, if you discipline yourself to be more effective, you will become more confident and attract people for being a better person than you are now. The first habit is take responsibility. This one is heavy, but it goes like this. You are responsible for where you are right now. No one made you do anything, you made every decision that got you here. A bitter pill. The good news, is that now you can decide where to go from here, and not let people decide for you. Other habits are equally gray wolf snarl inducing. Read it.
>>1217128
>Are meme books like 48 Laws of Power and How To Win Friends and Influence People worth reading?
Absolutely fucking not. I can't believe there are people on 4chan who don't see these things as the contentless bullshit they are.
There is really not much you can do to consistently increase your charisma. "Charisma" is bullshit anyway and has nothing to do with the qualities of an individual; it is all about how an individual is perceived by a group (i.e., when you think someone is charismatic, it is not because of anything they are doing, but how you see other people react to what they are doing. obviously the 2 are related, but with normies it is not as deep a relation as you would think)
I've seen a few sites that simulate the stock market. Are they worth checking out for someone who wants to learn about stocks? How accurate/useful are they?
>>1217000
good to test strategies very basic
make sure your simulator has realistic fills
move to real money as soon as possible
trading simulated funds is much much different than trading real money
>>1217000
Definitely good for getting started, I would suggest them. However, you tend to take on a lot of risk in simulators because there is no actual risk involved. Just be careful when you actually start moving money
>>1217093
>trading simulated funds is much much different than trading real money
please elaborate
Name a better President for stocks. You can't.
>literally Goldman Sachs: the candidate
>>1227857
Is she really better for stocks though or just better for Goldman? Is it one and the same? Please explain
God, why does she always have that hideous grimace in every. picture?
It's like shut your fucking MOUTH. Jesus.
>>1227857
It's the usual for presidents to back stab corporate donors.
>twitters stocks hit their lowest point ever today
why does pandering to SJWs never work, /biz/?
will twitter just magically disappear one day?
will Trump buy out twitter?
Someone is going to buy out twitter
The huge customer base is too great to just die out. I think it'll be google integrating them
hot damn. when should I buy?
>>1226743
Right now looks good, it can't possibly get any worse...
Do any of his economic policies actually make sense? I've listened to him for a while and he's got some good ideas and seems like a really genuine person.
Anyone here voting for him?
sorry never heard of him he's never mentioned on CNN or network news
>>1223761
That's a difficult question. The problem people have, not only in the real world but on /biz/ as well, is that they think there are "right" economic policies, and there are "wrong" economic policies. In reality, economic policy is ALWAYS a "on one hand... but on the other hand..." sort of thing. No policy is all good. No policy is all bad. There are winners and losers to all policies. Generally, the US government uses a cost-benefit analysis where they look at the net economic gains of any policy, and even if many people lose out, as long as the winners win by more than the losers lose, it's a policy we don't rule out.
The problem with that is that it's impossible to truly tell the impact of any policy, and that it's entirely short-sighted without consideration of long-term problems or benefits.
So that's the framework this question is posed in. Generally speaking, here's how most economists see his policies.
The good
>single-payer healthcare
>reducing too-big-to-fail banks
The bad
>$15 minimum wage
>Free college
>protectionism (probably the biggest problem they have with him)
Those are the ones I can think of off the top of my head. And there's an argument for and against each one, and it's always silly to say "economists say...." since they never really agree. Protectionism is the only part that nearly every economist disagrees with. The only reason it wins out is because working-class folks and labor unions are the losers in free-trade and they wield a lot of political power.
So, tl;dr:
Yes. Some make sense. Most however are probably bad for the economy, but it's arguable, and one is universally reviled.
>>1223761
Noone should vote for Bernie. His policies appeals largely to the majority that are too fucking stupid to even do their own taxes. They will be just as blind to the new tax system as they were to the old. I literally see teenagers and millennials biting down on his "lmao legalize weed" card and this shit pisses me off to no end. It parallels Trump's promise for a fucking wall.
MAYDAY! MAYDAY! CANADA ON FIRE!!
http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/edmonton/wildfire-destroys-fort-mcmurray-homes-most-of-city-evacuated-1.3563977
CITY WIDE EVACUATION! SHORT CANADA! LONG OIL! THIS IS NOT A DRILL! I REPEAT, THIS IS NOT A DRILL!
dollar gonna drop to 70 cents?
>>1229667
It very much could do that. Also economy will go down. The ripple effects from the panic when it hits mainstream media will set back the the markets quite a bit. Its truly a wonderful time to be alive. Could be anything from a few percent down to black wendsday.

Trumpcoin has been damn profitable for me. No matter what I'm still 5x so if it drops under 4K, I'm out. I guess MEME is the next flavor of the month.
Hey /pol/ was just in an argument or discussion with an economist friend of mine.
My job is being a financial engineer, basically I make algorithms to pick up trends in the stock market. However, lately I have been feeling that this is all just a bunch of bullshit and that nothing is actually being produced. It is almost like my company just makes money from doing nothing.
I told my friend that I think the economy is going to have a crash because there are not many people actually MAKING anything in the US anymore. He had a bunch of economic words and events that I didn't know about so he basically won the argument as I wasn't going to argue if I didn't have the right terms like trade deficits, Hayoot Smoody, a bunch of other things about interest rates, etc.
Who is actually right? He seemed pretty convinced the US economy was doing fine and will not crash anytime soon.
I find it really hard to believe this. I take a bunch of data, run some programs on it, and then wow my company just made like 5 mil doing nothing. I feel like our economy is just magic and not actually real.
Who is right me or the economist?
>>1229936
Whoops meant /biz/ my thread got deleted on pol for not being relevant
>>1229938
At first I thought it was political but I guess not. I think that board is satire.
>>1229936
I think that the stock market will definitely crash this summer, but I'm not sure about the entire economy. It really depends on how negative interest rates will affect business and the presidential election. Tell him to go fuck his self about the interest rates. Nobody knows how negative interest rates will actually impact businesses, because we've never had them.
What will happen when the dollar is no longer the reserve currency of the world?
>>1228200
Nothing? People will transition over to SDRs which are pretty much the same thing.
>>1228200
It's a fiat currency. Our economy literally runs on meme magic at this point.
Also the Amero will probably take over. No other country is stable, free, or strong enough to match the U.S. We basically own the UN, and Western Europe is our cuck.
le magical Bitcoin will be the ruler lol xDddd
