How does the Black Swan theory explain top investors like Soros and Dalio?

How does one average 20% returns by chance?
17 posts and 2 images submitted.
>>
>>1220233

a black swan, in finance, is simply an extreme unpredictable event

'black swan theory' is mostly Taleb explaining why they're more common than expected and how some assumptions of financial modelling/statistics applied to finance are dubious

in any case it has nothing to do with explaining the existence of top investors
>>
>>1220233

>how does one average 20% returns on average

Soros got his start as an investor because he's a Jew and the director of the bank that hired him was a Jew.
>>
>>1220250

The implication is that it's not possible to predict markets and other low validity environments, because of such rare events and their effects.

For example one could not have predicted WW2 because if Hitler hadn't been born it wouldn't have happened.

Therefore investors can not possibly make money year to year even with all the knowledge in the world.

I understand the theory, the conclusion is that top investors are either 1) extremely lucky or 2) cheating. Soros is a progressive liberal so either of those two might be true.

I have good credit and I have never overdrawn an account before so please provide advice on how I should proceed.

I bought $10,000 in bitcoins 2 days ago but I only had ~$500 in my account. I dont have $10,000. Now today it shows my account is overdrawn by $9500. that purchase includes $2000 worth of instant-buy bitcoin.

Ive read about overdraft fees of $20-$30, but do those tiny fees still apply at the high 4-digit overdraft range? I feel like the police should be looking for me. How exactly will the bank assrape me on this decision? Thanks

W.. Why? How? For what purpose would you do this to yourself?
>>
>>1220115

I can sympathise. It wasnt a responsible thing to do, but I had been reading about economic collapse and gold and I started to think of dollars as a meme coin. My inhibitions sort of gave way and I started thinking about the current economy as a silly game that I didnt want to play anymore. The next thing I knew I was buying way more bitcoin than I could afford.

I want to clean and repair n64 controllers, would craigslist be a good venue for this?

I'd do it for free or near free, so long as the customer pays for shipping.

I know it's weird and oddly specific. It's not the only thing I can fix, it's just the most satisfying for me.

Ebay is also a good option. Buy them and resell them for more, but this is probably already being done by a lot of people. Try it to see if there's a market for it, and if there isn't give up and move on to something else.

I'll also hijack your thread for a second.
Let's say I purchased a stock for 1$ and it has gone up to 1.6$. That's pretty good profit but I only have invested 300$ into them. This being said I don't have any more money to buy more of this said stock but I have so little equity in it that I just want to wait and maximize my profits. When it starts to decline for a certain period of time do I cash in or when am I supposed to ditch my greed and just get the profit I'm set to have despite it probably not have being peaked but I've still made profit on it?
>>

LOL, discipline level: 0
Write down a number on a piece of paper, e.g. 20%. When it goes higher than your number, cash out.
>>
>>1219931

But what about after I cash out? Do you recommend putting some in the same stock and dividing the rest to different or just use profits to buy and hold some dividend stocks? I mainly invest in dividend stocks but now I have been buying ETFs

wtf do you mean? If you want the most space I guess a warehouse will allow you to own the most square footage for your money.

People don't ask these questions whenever they're looking for purchasing real estate, as this isn't a metric that correlates to producing income from the property.

i have been considering just quitting and mowing lawns since its beginning to get nicer out. i probably wouldnt make as much as i do currently, but i think i would enjoy it a lot more than what i do now.

i've never mowed lawns for money before, any tips, suggestions, or knowledge you'd like to pass on /biz/raelis?

if you can borrow your dad's mower and have access to a car it can be easy.

you will need to print some flyers. shouldnt cost too much and can be just black and white. then just put the flyers into people's mailboxes or just am it between their door and the frame where they will surely see it.

Flyers should state how much you are charging. An example fee structure: $25 per yard, offer a combo for front and back yards for $40, charge extra for grass trimming (if you have a grass trimmer) and make a super combo for front/back and trimming for like $50-$60. if business is good you can get into the more intense shit like fertilizer and shit like that but only if you're making good money. i never went this far but thinking back now it might have attracted some people.

Pricing of course depends on the size of the yards of the neighbourhoods in your area. in my area all yards (front and back) were roughly the same size except corner houses (I never advertised to corner houses, fuck them, it would take too long to mow them). if the yards are huge then charge more, if they are really small then charge less.

what i did one summer was I had people "subscribe" and I would cut their grass every two weeks without them having to call me. it was like a subscription grass cutting service. worked great when it didnt rain much and the grass hardly grew but when it rained a lot and the grass was long as fuck it was hell. But that's business.

What you should do is mow your own lawn and time yourself. If the lawns in your neighbourhood are the same size then that will be base time to complete each house and then you can come up with a rough estimate of the money you will make each day and the time it will take to do it. Of course some houses will have shitty gardens and shit that you dont want to trample or accidentally cut and fucking fruit trees that attract bees and wasps which will force you to spend more time at some locations.
>>
Well for mowing lawns, you work when you want to. Personally, I make $35 for each lawn that I do. Pro tip- make friends with your client and be their servant for 1-2 hours, do what they tell you and do it well. Ask people that you know if they need their lawn done.

Consider working as a waiter. You have experience in the food service industry, so you have an advantage over other people applying. You can actually earn quite a bit in tips if you don't have a shitty attitude all the time.

Start small and build your own capital, it will take longer and a lot of time/work, but you won't owe a thing to nobody, once you set a nice base, investors will approach you.

I used to think i needed a BIG starting capital and produce HUGE amounts of my product in order to get rich asap, but its not the only way, hard work and pasion pays good anon.

Okay, Now before i fucking say i was right agian, look at the proof. A couple day's ago Ford-F (NYSE) released some information that they are spending 1.6 BILLION on expanding two factories to mass produce a new 10 speed auto Tranny, (bruce jenner) and of course expansion means more revenue, And i posted, JUMP on the train while you can, Well fuckers.
