Hey /biz/

I want to find a job I can work while working at my current job.

I have enough downtime at my current job to add a part-time workload. I work in administration and want to eventually transition into tech. Naturally, I'm interested in supplementary income but also I want to add skills and experience learned through work in that sector. Specifically I'm probably looking at webdev/full stack/etc stuff. And while I'm looking for such a position, I plan on building a portfolio (and none of the pieces will generate significant income).

Remote positions would make this arrangement possible, but I don't find many that only have a part-time workload...or at least they're not published with that language. I'm wondering though: in work labeled as "contract" (remote) jobs, is it possible to work on a part-time basis? I've seen some such postings with quantified hours, but most do not. Or, if there's some other avenue of getting work-allotments that constitute ~25hrs a week, I'd love to hear it.

Any help?

Hey OP, I'm in the same spot as you. But I'm lacking in motivation to get project ideas moving. Maybe we could collaborate to help each other with portfolio development and resume development? Let me know and I'll post my e-mail.
>>
>>1230984

What are your interests or skills? OP here btw.

>>1230977

Yeah, I'm very familiar, but not about contract work in general nor what sort of appointments you can swing. It seems most of the remote contracts expect you to be working with them 1.0 FTE.

Non-alcoholic beverages. There's a fuck ton of room for beverage start ups right now, I mean fuck, even if you slap 'organic' on the label and put the drink in a recycled bottle it will sell to hipsters, then you just capitalize on your success.

Really? I've heard that beverages are one of the hardest to get into. The big players will not even let you on the retail shelves.
>>
>>1230318
You wanna fight pepsico and coca cola?

Good luck mate
>>
>>1230319
Yeah, getting your product on Walmart's shelves is no easy task but that's the same with most products now adays. No big retailer is going to self your product if its brand new and the big players will do everything they can to keep themselves on top. But there are things that can be done to work around this problem.

Hey /biz/. I've been a lifeguard going on 6 years. Part time during school years and full time in the summer. I'm thinking of branching out and getting my CPO license. Certified Pool Operator.

What can I do with a CPO and 6 years of lifeguarding experience the answer is obviously work on pools but what would the title of said job be I'd be looking for.

Start a pool maintenance company. It is particularly profitable.

I know one guy in Florida who makes like $80k a year just driving around, cleaning up pools and checking their chemicals.
>>
>>1230601
I'd personally rather join one. The thing is, I have no experience starting a business at all. But I'm aware CPO people make money. I'm looking at doing something I over the summer I can make more money with before I go to law school.
>>
>>1230668
Smart enough to be a lawyer, smart enough to seduce 45 year old wives of lawyers and get enough for law school just on their gifts bro.

Pool boy porn didn't come out of nowhere.

Hear me out on the current business predicament I have.
I work full time as an I.T technician, where I am an employee and am paid a set salary amount which is my primary, 95% source of income
I decided to make my own business website and try and attract my own business clients, as what I am doing now for another company, I can do the exact same thing but cut out the employer who takes most of the money. Surprisingly I am already seeing positive results i.e I have received a few new clients through my personal company and I have had to juggle my full time job work houes to attend these personal clients. But the money I have received through these clients in my new small business is no where enough to live off financially as a primary source of income.
I work full time as an employee to survive, but it also prevents me from being able to spend enough time building my own business to the point where its financially possible to live off of.
Sure I could do what my brother did and move in with mommy at the age of 28 and build my business by not having any rent to pay, but I refuse to do that out of pride and principle.
So... I know nobody likely has a magic answer that I havent already thought of, but I know some of you are entrepreneurs and may have a good approach/
Is the only solution to transition slowly from full time work into my own business, like going part time or dropping a day at my current job. But if there is any solution I havent thought of to build up my business, while also having a steady and stable income, please share your ideas.

Try to get your hours reduced or work the same amount of hours but for fewer days. Schedule all clients on the day off or evenings.

Possibly tell your employer that he should significantly increase your pay because you have a better offer.

nvm I'll just answer here. I thought you were going to ask advice about how to improve your business

you should try to get your pay slightly reduced in order to work remotely. come up with a reason, offer to have your pay reduced by ~15% and handle everything outside of the office

FUNDAMENTAL ANALYSIS, VALUE INVESTING, GROWTH INVESTING, TECHNICAL ANALYSIS, “MUH PRICE ACTION” ANALYSIS ALL THAT SHIT IS COMPLETE BULLSHIT. I CAN FLIP A COIN AND GET HEADS IN 100 TIMES IN A ROW EVEN THOUGH THE PROBABILITY IS 50/50. THAT’S ESSENTIALLY WHAT INVESTING IS. PURE OLD DUMB FUCK LUCK. How do I out who owns my 5 year old overdraft debt from a bank? I want to pay it off now that I am able to so I can open a real bank account again.

The collectors stopped calling 2 years ago, but it's still on my ChexSystems report under the name of the bank. Do I call the bank and ask?

>>1230093
"How do I find out" should be the first few words there. Sorry I'm a retard.
>>
If collectors have stopped calling about it they've probably written if off as a lose and moved on. Challenge ChexSystems and tell them it shouldn't be on your report. One of two things will happen. They'll drop it off your credit report Tada! Or they'll verify that it's accurate and you'll find out who you have to pay to get it cleaned up. It might be an issue if you're trying to get credit but if all you want to do is open a bank account usually all you need is money.

I work a warehouse job as a supervisor. I make 12.50 an hour with a shift differential of .50. So 13 an hour. My work decided from here on out they are going to only hire through agencies. A supervisor in another department quit so they "promoted" one of the full timers to supervisor without giving them the title and tacking on a bonus to their checks. That person makes 11 an hour. The bonus they gave them was 200 extra dollars each paycheck. Which is weekly. So this person is making more than I am. Is this allowed? Is there anything I can do? I'm not in the know about laws and you can be terminated for talking about each other's wages. Should I just forget about it?

I work for a very big recognizable company that is in a ton of flux. We are hemorrhaging senior leadership not only at the VP level, but above, especially in my division.

We're losing people more close to my corporate position too - I feel like I'm watching the rats abandon ship with the captain. That said, they're looking to promote me. The title change would be huge, the salary increase would be nearly 95%, but there may be an expectation I stick around for a while, up to being contractually obligated if I take the job.

Should I do anything and everything (read: likely a step BACK financially and professionally) to get into a company with a more stable outlook? Or stay the course?
10 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
Take the offer, but put out your resume. If the company goes under you'll find another job, more quickly if you're already getting emailed by recruiters, and if not you'll be making twice the money.

What market sector you in, senpai?
>>
>>1229808

Consumer discretionary.

The challenge for me is that I'm not ready to leave my city, and this is more or less the best financial situation here.

Hey /biz/, going to my state's top public college in fall, and I want to know what undergraduate is better- finance or business administration. I'm going in with my AA completed, and my eventual goal in life is to own a business young and become a millionaire before I'm 30. Any insight would be useful.
