How does one do proper research on finding out how to negotiate salary for a small, relatively young company with little public info?
I somehow managed to do well on a phone interview, and now I have an in-person interview coming up soon. Hopefully it'll be the last interview. I'm fairly confident I can get this job, I know the position and could handle it with relative ease, but the salary worries me. with 90% of companies its easy enough to infer thanks to glassdoor combined with payscale.com. but this company im interviewing with has only one unrelated director salary ($120kish), and two positive reviews. and, the position im interested in seems to vary widely in pay from company to company. ill list as much info as i can about the company and myself:
- the position is in NYC as a Video Producer/Editor.
- i dont want to name the exact company but they're a sports related media group that create brand content for youtube creators, about 100 people in the whole lot, less than 5 years old. seem to be relatively profitable (read somewhere they got 20M in funding last year).
- my current position is with a large, big-name camera company as a video specialist. salary is 60K. been here for exactly 12 months.
- graduated last year from a no-name school with a film degree.
- three internships before that.
help??

research average wage for the area in your field.
ask for that exact sum.
after a year or two when you proven yourself to the company you go and renegotiate.
unless you have significant previous experience there is no other way.
>>1249809
also forgot. that typical salary i see for "producer" roles in nyc range anywhere from 40k to 80k.
would it be unreasonable to mention my current salary if they gave some crazy lowball number like 40k or less?
>>1249816
If they give you a satisfactory offer you can counter. Feel free to say something to the effect of what you currently earn is more, and for it to be worthwhile you would be looking for a similar or larger amount. If it is substantially lower they might not be willing to compromise so much, but in business negotations it boils down to leverage, and having a larger salary currently is leverage in your favour.
What are the potential problems with choosing a company name that is two fake surnames, so as to appear more trustworthy?
>>1249732
nobody gives a flying fuck. why would someone focus on the name? this is not high school anymore
>>1249739
it has to be a cool name. some companies spend millions researching a company name.

What companies. Nane one and post a source

I think it's valued where it should be right now. Warren buffet being in it still means it has some support
Not gonna skyrocket to 110 until they release something new

Have you shown ANY entrepreneurial inclinations? I'm not even asking about serious or profitable, I mean anything.
I have not. This makes me sad because you always see on rich people's wiki pages that they had clothes / newspaper businesses as 10 year olds
>>1249311
I never gave a shit about being rich simply because the idea of having a normal home was enough for me.
Usually people like that grow up in more well to do families and want to set their sights higher.
If you start from the bottom, just getting high enough to be middle class is decent enough.
So I wouldn't worry too much. Not everyone is made to be a businessman or entrepreneur. The world would not function if everyone was. We need blue collar workers and tradesmen as well.
That's what I aspired to be instead of doing business, but it's not like you don't have to not care about making some money and investing it either.

My father owned a shop and guided by his example I organised a group of kids to make and sell door to door artsy souvenirs out of literal painted garbage, rocks and other easily found free shit. We made enough for snacks and shits. We were like 8 at the time.
Reason I'm telling you this is that since then I've literally never did anything business related except shitposting on /biz/. It's completely meaningless.
>>1249311
don't know if it can count as a entrepreneurial inclination but as a 10 year-old kid I knew some school bullies that stolen shit from stores like icecream, coke and chocolate. I payed them 50% of the actual price of an icecream or chocolate I wanted, they were motivated to acquire goods and get payed for it and I payed a lower price than the market offered.

How big of a mistake it is to study Social Studies in uni?
>>1249241
Why? Why do you ask such dumb questions? You know we are going to tell you it's dumb. Hell you probably know it is dumb but you are going to do it anyway because you think you will make it work. Maybe you will, maybe you won't.
A BIG mistake, it's financial return is shit.

Me and my friends have pooled approximately 8 million dollars and we decided to enter the shipping industry. We arrived to that conclusion because four of my friends are in the shipping industry (two captains, one chief engineer, one first mate). We will operate at Indonesia and we will work on domestic transport. We want our first vessel to be a ROPAX that is of Japanese make that is made in the 2000's and is around 3000-4000GRT. We are kind of stumped on where to get such a vessel.

This is a longshot, not sure where to ask:
I recently inherited and sold a condo in Hungary. I am a dual citizen, but have never lived there. The money has already been transferred to my account here in the US.
Could I face any negative consequences if I don't pay the capital gains tax in Hungary? Hungary is a member of the EU. Could I get arrested or my passport confiscated if I visit there, or any other EU country?

Does anyone ever feel like they are on a great saving streak and then there's a "just cuck me up" moment? Asking for all my fellow bare-minimal spenders. I went home and bought a whole lot of online shit I had wanted for a while, just because I had given up momentarily on saving after that dining experience.

Keep a seperate fund for spending. Put like $20 a week in it to spend on whatever
>>1248998
It's a great idea. Something I noticed is that when I keep all of my money in the one account, I spend way more of it because it's all there and all accessible. Surely there must be a psychological explanation for that.
Long story short, I'm withdrawing all of my money next week.

>>1248775
Still going up!
Stocks: You pay $100 for a goose that shits gold for eternity, such that you'll get $100 worth of gold within 10 years on average (sometimes 3, sometimes 20). At that time, you can buy another gold-shitting goose, and so on, exponentially. You have 2 and then 4 and then 8 and then 16 and 32 gold-shitting gooses, each shitting out $100 of gold/year.
Gold. You pay $100 for a lump of gold. At the end of eternity, you still have a $100 lump of gold.
Stocks track inflation just like gold does, AND give you a large return on top of that.
You have to be retarded/hate money/hate being financially secure to own gold.
What are the five most useful college courses for the market/life in general.
For me it would be:
-Principles of Microeconomics
-Principles of Macroeconomics
-Logic/Critical thinking
-Statistics
-Intro to Programming/CS
>>1248717
there's no chance that a 200/300 level econ course is useful in any way. you should just do applied math up to diff eqs and if you're interested further in financial planning/politics specifically just listen to a podcast once in a while.
also intro to logic is just as useful as a painting class. c'mon now.
