Imagine if you will, a young man searching for a job. His resume is appealing, his experience is minimal, but he's a charming fellow who's bound to get picked up eventually. The question is, what can he do in the mean time to maintain a healthy income in the way of general services? A friend and I have considered sifting through free craigslist and scrapping electronics/selling scrap but what are some other low-skill services I can perform to pull in some income while I wait for a response from a local business?
>Tl;dr how to make money without a job and without dogecoin/investing
Pic unrelated btw

I've been following Crypto for a few years and with this sudden boom in altcoins I really want to develop a coin with some features that I genuinely believe are useful and feasible and would have very specific but very important applications.
Before anyone accuses me of just being an ideas guy, these are my resources:
>C++ / Jscript / Python fluency (mostly self taught since I was 12 but have been doing a college level course for two years in C++ and C# atm)
>12,000 USD capital I would 100% be willing to lose on this idea
My questions are more where can I find reliable partners in this idea who won't scam/fleece me? And is it feasible to go it completely alone?
I am graduating with a degree in Physics this year so I have decent familiarity with cryptography in an academic-level as well as hobby-level.

>And is it feasible to go it completely alone?
not even if you are a genius autist
>>1277702
Mate, I'm looking to add cryptocurrency projects into my portfolio (cs student). Put up some contact info.

Go completely alone, If I was able to do it, you should be able to too
GUYS I HAVE A JOB INTERVIEW WITH A BIG STOCK TRADING FIRM TOMORROW
HOW DO I PASS THE INTERVIEW AND GET THE JOB??
"Sell me this pen."
>>1277624
I think in this context, the prompt would be more like
"buy me a piece of this pen and then sell it later when I may profit from it"
>>1277624
>"okay"
>sit there for 10 minutes
>"alright anon interview is over, give me my pen back"
>"no"
>"what? why?"
>"tell you what, you can have it back for a dollar"
You know what would be nice!?
an app for checking on the trends of stocks, commodities, exchange rate ALL IN THE SAME FUCKING PLACE
Can I dream higher? Just imagine an app like Mint for budget ALSO TOGETHER WITHIN THIS APP wouldnt it be amazing? Why the hell hasnt anybody made it yet!?!?!?
Also cool /biz/ apps for android/ios thread
I just started with pic related and mint.
I am considering Thinkorswim, haven't tried it yet
If you are into crypto you can use blockfolio app to maintain your cryptotrade, read news related to crypto also create alert whenever price of certain crypto hit certain point.

Look CIA, you have to stop coming here for business idea's. First crack and other illegal drugs now this? Shame on you.
>>1277478
It could be good experience if you've never worked with a product before
If you get caught selling weed you're just gonna spend a few days in jail, get some fines and some probation.
If you get caught selling coke you're gonna spend at least a year in jail. Maybe longer depending on how many baggies you had.

Will we ever see the emergence of a strong financial services union? It seems with the growing financialization of the world, the growth of the financial sector, the profits of these companies, and the shitty treatment of the lower level employees, it seems ripe for one
>>1277308
No, everyone is thinks they are capable to get more utility by negotiating themselves than through collective bargaining.
They also know that they would price themselves out of the market. The non-union workers will be less expensive. Financial services is extremely competitive and price sensitive.
Lastly, financial services hate regulations. They would essentially be imposing more regulations on themselves to comply with.
>>just my two cents.
> Union workers collective bargain for higher wages in an industry
> Industry collapses under weight of artificial & arbitrary costs
> Union workers ignore their own near sighted greed and blames big bad CEO
Well done 'merica

Sounds like every union toplel
is it better to work on the books or off?

What does /biz/ think of currency hedging? I'm in Canada and I was considering buying the CAD-hedged s&p500 etf -
https://www.vanguardcanada.ca/individual/mvc/detail/etf/overview?portId=9562&assetCode=EQUITY##overview
In theory it should make sense since CAD is relatively low right now and will no doubt shoot up sometime soon, nullifying pretty much any s&p gains for a long time as I understand it. Would it not be wise to buy the CAD-hedged version? I'm a little confused as to how to go about this.
But this nerd seems to say different.
http://canadiancouchpotato.com/2014/03/06/why-currency-hedging-doesnt-work-in-canada/
>Why isn’t hedging effective in Canada? The Pyramis researchers explain that the US dollar, euro and Swiss franc tend to have negative correlation with the global equity markets. (Recall that when all risky assets plummeted in 2008, the US dollar soared.) Negative correlation is what diversification is all about: any part of your portfolio that goes up when equities go down is a welcome addition, so exposure to these currencies is a benefit, and hedging wipes it out. As the J.P. Morgan authors write: “The hedge will tend to produce profits at the same time that equity markets are advancing, and produce losses when equities are falling.” In other words, it magnifies volatility rather than reducing it
Thoughts?
>>1277256
>no doubt shoot up sometime soon
I kinda stopped reading right there.
>>1277256
also the reason why us equity markets have a semi negative correlation with the us dollar is because in order to buy us equities, you need us dollars, and to sell us equities, you get us dollars. there is really no research needed to be done for that.
>>1277267
No but really shouldn't CAD go up? Historically this is about the lowest it gets unless you're implying oil will never appreciate

Why can't you declare bankruptcy to get out of student loans?
That's some bullshit.
You also can't go to jail for not paying loans
We have different definitions of bullshit
>>1276957
>Just graduated
>don't have any money, spent everything on college
>still had to take out loans
>no assets or savings to lose from filing for bankruptcy
>surewhynot.jpg
Who would keep their loans if you could just discharge them this easily? Everyone would do it, the student loan market would collapse, millions of people would lose access to college.
>>1276983
>Why do people not declare bankruptcy if they have credit card debt
Anyone made any money flipping shit from thrift stores/yard sales/craigslist etc?
It's been my main (measly) source of income for years now, and I'm always looking to branch into new areas.
Right now I see steady returns in men's clothing and sport's equipment, occasionally electronics.
Looking to branch into retail arbitrage or even art (if I get lucky).
ITT: discuss Tips, Tricks, brag about finds, argue over best and most consistent return items, Ebay vs. Etsy vs. C-list, etc.
I'd be interested to hear more from you, OP. How much do you make? What are your best selling items? Where do you find them? etc.
In return, I'll tell you my secrets.

I am in college, so it is not really a full time thing. I only do the purchasing once or twice a week (usually on weekends) and list in my free-time. I rotate between 4 local stores here at school.
Back home, I drive about 30 minutes to the nearby rich neighborhoods because they tend to have better brands.
My real main source is dress shirts. Usually ~$5 a piece. Just look for ralph lauren, brooks brothers, or anything italian. You can usually feel if it is nice quality, and just look up "sold listings" on your phone on ebay.
usually sell each shirt for ~$30. My best was some italian "Canali" silk shirt for $120. Polos also do well and are easy to find. Lacoste, RL, and Vineyard Vines all sell well and fast.
Vintage golf clubs are my most recent foray, and I am doing decently well. Just know the big name club makers and look for clean, recent clubs. Golf players tend to be pretty wealthy, so they donate some very expensive clubs.
>>1276834
Oh, and larger sizes tend to sell better for everything. A lot of nice shirts to be found that are super huge (and sell well to fat old guys on ebay)
