/biz/ I need help. I'm a software developer for 10 years -- but I'm unmotivated. I have some killer ideas, including one that I wrote a prototype for. It was a huge success at one company but really just fitted for them. I want to write a commercial version.
But I find myself unmotivated. Not just for this software, but generally, in life. I'm on meds and not depressed but just don't feel excited about getting the business done.
The one exception is when I read books of others starting up companies from nothing. Others, like Art of the Deal are neat, but it's hard to get motivated by people will millions to start with, you know?
I liked pic related. I've seen a few other software-company small business books but need more. Recommendations? Can be pure code motivation, or small business motivation. Ideally both. Thanks!

Notch's twitter feed
>>1286905
Notch is great but it seems like that was more of a stroke of luck, you know? I'm looking for more sustainable businesses that didn't have gigantic exits.
Though I enjoy Notch esp with his recent bantz

but-but, it'll help me learn!
Be 26, with 80k savings, living at home, debt free, with no college education.
80k salary a year.
These are my priorities in no particular order yet
1. Move out of parents home by either taking a mortgage on a home or renting an apartment which for a decent studio in my area is 1900 a month
2. Open a business.
3. Education
Which should come first, /biz/?
>>1286750
3.
2.
1.
in that order
any certifications, programs, for example engineering, electricity etc. that I can do while continuing working at my current job?
>>1286750
Start a business. That solves it
how much oil are you buying /biz/?
All of it
>>1286708
Is this actually a good idea? How would I go about buying (paper) oil, like are we talking Fidelity here
>"buying" oil
You're cute kid.
This is the first time I've been on this board, so I apologize if this is a common topic.
I was recently given about $20,000 for college, and I already have all of my college expenses payed off. What would be the smartest way to use this money, my father suggested investment. I know I would greatly benefit from this in a 501K.
>>1286627
>This is the first time I've been on this board, so I apologize if this is a common topic.
Yes it is a common topic, however since you are new to this board, I'll tell it to you once. /biz/ has an own fund, that is managed by a couple of posters here that work in hedgefunds. we put money we can spare in it and they try to make the best profits. currently we are at 1340% in the course of 5 years.
however to get access to invest in it you have to be a known poster, so lurk more, learn and maybe you'll get invited. cheers mate.
Open an IRA and maximize the contributions.
Have a few thousand in the bank for normal expenses and emergency.
The rest in stocks to hold
how do I stop being a loser?
>25
>waiter
>didn't finish AA degree
>only general skills (computers, people)
what are some jobs for people without degrees or marketable specialized skills? I need to find something with benefits and room for advancement before I am off my parents insurance.
>>1286544
construction maybe ?
>>1286544
You cannot be unskilled. Find that skill of yours and make it a business.
>>1286544
there's plenty of stuff you could do, but you should try to find something you either enjoy doing or you're good at.
Look at IT certifications. You can get your CCNA to start out and try for a decent job or A+/CCENT and do help desk for 6mo-1yr then get a decent job.
If you don't want to do IT there's so many different things you could do. Why don't you include some stuff you like or think you're good at so we can point you in the right diretion.
Is this the right move by content creators?
>>1286198
not really usually i just open the web console and remove the overlay with one move.
that is if i really have to visit a site but usually i just skip the ones that do this.
>>1286198
No, the right move was to not be so obnoxious with ads in the first place.
>>1286209
yeah also you can alter your useragent string so that the site thinks you are a google bot and it will show you anything.
also if they do this a lot adblocker will adapt and disable these scripts.
So what's the scoop on Valeant? Good time to buy in? Will Tuesday (earnings report) be a shit show or a launching sequence?
>>1286157
bump
Don't buy. Company is in deep shit.
They had offers for BO for like $55 dollars, so if worst comes to worst they can sell off
I read ER isn't something to worry about, its more about the guidance in future
A lot of institutes like GS still hold millions of shares with them. I think it'll go back up eventually, I trust in their CEO
I am a self employed trader who made 500,000 dollars last year using exclusively japanese candlestick patterns. Ask me anything

How should a min wage cuckslave job be quit?
I'm getting tired of it for many reasons and I've been applying to a few other jobs and I think I got a good chance. But should I just put it a two weeks notice even if I haven't worked there much?
>>1285928
If you want a reference from them and the possibility to work for that company again, you should give a 2 week notice.
If you need the checks to keep coming in, you shouldn't quit until you have another job.
>>1285934
But beyond that, is it fine?
if it's a min wage cuckold job?
>>1285940
You won't go to jail or anything. Those are the main downsides, just the connection/reference side of it. I would leave it off your resume and job applications if you're quitting without proper notice.
helps you make hard decisions
how?
Go on
Tell me more op
what's the most professional way to tell a customer that they can't afford your product?
>>1285580
why would you? just tell the customer the price, let the customer decide. it's a free country
>mfw all the stories of someone getting rejected at a car dealership
>return the next day with same price competitor's car
um good job?
>>1285580
honestly I just give them a higher price than I normally would. This normally scares them off, if not then you come out ahead.
>>1285589
Ha! This has happened to me in electronics shops.
Why are they constantly putting out excuses to not raise interest rates? Do they know it will pop the debt bubble? Are they waiting for the election?
War is coming brother. Just those who don't have money won't be told that. Too bad for you bro.
Most publicly released reports are padded to paint the best possible picture they can because confidence in the system is more important than actual numbers.
In reality the US economy is doing terribly and not ready for a rate hike, that's why.
>>1285524
>Are they waiting for the election?
Yep, pretty much
