I literally have no idea what to do. So between that and a busy work schedule I don't want to be trading stocks myself.
So how do I get involved with a stock broker or investment firm?

Read the sticky, invest through vanguard if possible.

Index funds match the earnings of the market. Most managed funds can not beat the market. Something like 80% of hedgefunds do not beat the gains of the market. You may get lucky and have a funds manager that is in the 20% that isn't a Ponzi scheme then go for it.

I'm not too comfortable with making any investments, right now, beyond 3 months total holding time.

If I had to execute a buy transaction in the morning, I'd buy something organized around silver or gold (not physical, I don't want to deal with that shit)

I'm personally very close to cashing out and just waiting for a while, we are headed for some very tumultuous times, at least it seems to me.

>canadian housing bubble fueled by chink money
>chink economy slowing (potential mass fund withdrawal from CAN market)
>EU potentially going kaput
>DB/BCS/Lloyds doing very poorly
>1.25% on 30 year US bond
>Negative Japo bonds
>Venezuela

I dunno man.......where there's smoke there's fire.

Ok, so I own my own home. I bought it at 138K, did a months worth of renovations and updates now my house is worth 160K.

Very nice neighborhood, no theft or crime. worst we have is dui's almost all white.

Brand new stainless appliances (Frigidaire gallery series) aside from washer/dryer.

granite counters, nice laminate floors, with nice carpet and pad in bedrooms, tile in bathrooms.

deck, 1/3rd acre yard. 1300 sq ft 3 bed 2 bath.

I am really laid back and chill, make sure that the grass is cut myself and I keep out all the pests with my own pesticide. provide dish soap and towels etc.

I pay all the utilities, including the internet (uncapped biz class, fast speed.)

They basically just clean up their own mess and let me worry about everything else. There is no pets allowed though.

Now I have 2 roommates. I charge them 600 a month, each, flat. One of them thinks this place is a sanctuary (roomate A) and the other thinks I am overcharging (roomate B) (evidence provided by roomate A).

now we all get along no fighting ever as well. what do you guys think I should be charging given what I have provided.

Am I overcharging? or is he just ignorant.

Thanks.

How hard is stock trading? Can a man of average intelligence make money?
Im not asking how to do it but if it's worth dedicating the time to learn or if it will even be within my grasp.

1. Hard to hit buttons? Not very. Hard to make a consistent return over years? Yes.
2&3. Make money? Sure, the jokers over at rhg claim to do it all the time. As for whether its worth "dedicating the time to learn", it really depends on your goals.

Hey /biz/,

I'm currently majoring in political science, but I plan on going off to business school after I graduate. Is this an okay route for one who would like to be involved with politics, or should I do some other route? What can I do within business and finance that will build up my life achievements and political reliability?

Thank you, sorry for polluting the board

If you're not trying to take the easy street to law school, get out, it's a garbage degree.

If you want something that can place you in a multitude of jobs after your degree if you don't want to do more school a finance/business degree would be far better, but, could still carry your ass to law school if you wanted.
>>
I personally think it would be beneficial to go off to business school. We need more officials who know something about money. Like the previous poster said, political science won't get you very far. Perhaps minor in it?

So I used the food stamps calculator for my state and I do not qualify due to making: $220 a week as an intern, having $750 in checking, and $2200 in savings.

Should I just pull all my savings and lie to try to get some free government cash to offset my student loans?

The website didn't ask how much I pay in rent or how much debt I pay a month, just if I was a US citizen or Other, or if I was a migrant farm worker.

Could Someone please explain to me why buying and holding works better than shorting garbage?
I have an eismanian sense that most companies are WAY overvalued so my go to action is to short things i find ludicrously expensive... One RH allows shorting in the future, will the game be up?
hy does it pay to go long over the long term?

Directly shorting the market requires timing to be profitable. Buying and holding rides out successive waves of inflation.

I want to start a business and make enough money to get out of my parents house.

I can code anything, have a computer, internet, and food.

I have been trying to come up with ideas for months but I have no contacts, no idea what businesses need, no idea on anything. I just can code and learn whatever I need to.

Can you business geniuses help? I need tips, insights, anything, let me be the sponge and your infinite wisdom be the refreshing water of knowledge that I furiously absorb.

How does buying in affect the market value of a stock? If I buy in to a relatively stable stock like mgt was before John mcafee took over how do I know how much my purchase will affect that stock? I know that if you want to buy a stock priced at let's say 4 dollars per share the system looks for sellers at 4 dollars and if there are none it changes the price to 4.005 or 4.01 and keeps increasing the price until there is a seller. Or if I wanted to sell my 4 dollar stock it will look for buyers at 4 dollars and if there are none it will move the price down to 3.995 or 3.99 and will continue to decrease until someone buys a share. If I bought a million shares of mgt when it was 20 cents a share how much would it rise and would that rise be immediate? Is there a mathematical formula that is good at estimating how much you are affecting a stock based on the amount of capital being traded on a stock at any point in time?

Tldr: how do you estimate how the price of a stock will change based on your cash input? Buying or selling.

chances are u wont be trading enough volume to worry about the wake of ur own trade..
if someone had a sell order of 100 shares at 4 dollars, and the next lowest sell order was 100 shares at 4.50, and u wanted to buy 200 shares, then you would buy the first 100 shares for 4 dollars each and the next 100 shares for 4.50 each..
so u would have to pay 850 dollars for 200 shares but only 400 dollars for 100 shares

if u wanted to buy 60 percent of all the companies stock u might have to pay a large premium to someone who had an expensive sell order.

What if I tried to invest 1million in to mgt when it was 20 cents a share? You're telling me it wouldn't have any noticible alteration in the stock price at all? Even a half of a penny is noticible on robinhood. And how do I select what price I want to sell my stock for?
>>
>>1365740
>it wouldn't have any noticible alteration in the stock price at all?
If enough people (totaling 1,000,000 shares) were willing to sell at .20, then no, it won't move.
Even better, if you tried to do it all at once, you'd get fucked, as the sellers disappeared and you were forced to pay a higher price per share.

First post on /biz/.

On May 6th of this year I introduced myself to the supervisor of the a technician team for a local broadband company. I handed him my resume, described how my skill set might not be congruent to what they want but that I am trainable and in it for the long haul. About a week and a half later he called me to come in for a preliminary interview. It went well.

Since then, roughly every week we kept some sort of communication line open. It seemed like I was making progress at a predictable pace. Eventually there was an interview with the VP of the company, which the supervisor said went well. Then when the supervisor had me come in to fill out a proper job app he gave me a tour of the facility, explained how he was in my shoes when he first began (zero cable tech skills), and told me of a pilot program aimed at training complete noobies in the cable field. I felt as if I was a shoe in and couldn't wait to get started.

Then, roughly two weeks ago, I initiated the background check and drug test procedures. Some background info: I did smoke weed prior to attempting to get hired, but as of the date of the drug test I was clean for a month. As far as red flags in the background check, the only thing I could imagine coming up is my student loan debt (roughly 10k), and maybe my Oberma care fines. A week after I took the drug test, I decided to text the supervisor to try and get an update. Nothing. Two weeks later, I do the same. Radio silence.

This is definitely different. Before, even if I wasn't coming into the branch every week, we would at least touch bases via call or text. I would be persistent in reminding him I existed and he didn't seem to mind confirming that I was still in the mix. Now the supervisor is not calling me back, or even sending a text. Admittedly this is the most formal hiring process I have been involved with, so I'm not use to the specifics of it.

cont...

A few questions:
1) Is it normal for the company to stay quiet as they complete these final procedures?
2) If I failed the background check or drug test, would they not let me know? Might they be personally offended by my failure and feel as if they didn't owe me an explicit denial of employment?
3) What kind of debt situations would be a red flag to employers?

If you can think of any questions to ask me that seem relevant, please do so. Thanks.

Is it normal for an employer to just ignore a former candidate like that, especially when there was 2 months of decent rapport beforehand? Why couldn't they just call me and say they don't need me?
