Hey /biz/
I'm 19 accounting major with no car or school debt. A year of school left, 51k in stocks grown by about 3k since purchase at the end of February. What should I do with the 30k in my bank after I finish school (8k~). No job. Held two over 2 years. Thoughts? I'd like to retire very comfortabby. Not intending on doing a CPA desk job. Friends are putting together a think tank of skills and knowledge to build a business when we finish school. What's my next move though? Anyone have and elaborative sources they could provide, even? I'm interested in maybe economics PhD or MBA. Wanting to be in wealth management end career goal and be great at it. Thoughts?

Hi guys, I'm a citizen of Montenegro (in Europe but non-EU basically).

I'm looking to make some long-term investments in US and international stocks, but it turns out US brokerages only accept Americans and a few Asian countries as account holders.

Can someone recommend some reputable brokerages that will let me create an account?

Preferably with no maintenance fees as I'm looking to buy and hold mainly.

Interactive Brokers will accept anyone apparently but the fees are ridiculous for buy-and-hold traders.

How dumb am I for wanting to double major in chemistry and economics?

Was thinking of starting up my own chemical company but I feel like there's no way to compete with the big boys in this area right?

Going to college for just econ this fall, not sure what I should do

You should be more concerned about getting that done in a timely fashion. Those two disciplines do not have an abundance of overlap in classes so you're going to have a very full schedule. Also, depending on where you choose to go there are potential scheduling issues because some courses necessary for graduating on time are only offered in specific semesters at specific times. It can be done it just sounds like a nightmare.

If your goal is to start up your own company you're probably better off taking classes in accounting/business/finance as opposed to focusing on economics. Ultimately everything you learn is only going to be tangentially related and you'll have a pretty significant learning curve once you start.

If you want to start a chemical company you're better off doing Chemical Engineering and an MBA. And any decent school is going to be difficult to get into either program, let alone both at the same time. For instance, I'm at UT, top 10 ChemE and top 20 Business, good luck getting them to allow you to do both.

This 100%. And i would recommend some real world experience in a chemical plant as well. There are a ton of work processes that are important for keeping things running safe and smooth.

You also need to get into niche products. You aren't going to beat the big chemical companies selling commodity chemicals.

Yea you can take out loans. Be realistic how much you are spending and what you're getting for it. People run into trouble when they spend 50k to get 8 general education credit hours toward their liberal arts degree because they were too busy blazing and attending rallies to go to class. Your job search begins junior year. When you do get out try to pay those loans off ASAP. If you can work during college do it.

I've saved up around 4000 GBP although I'm now living in a different European country. I lost about 8-10% because of Brexit and I'm unsure whether it's a better idea to wait until the price rises again or if I should just exchange it now and invest in something safe that can get me about 10% profit.
