Hey /biz/, I don't do stocks but I was having a conversation with a friend after work and wanted to clear something up.
If you buy an option on lets say toilet paper, and the price of toilet paper goes up how do you use your option?

Do you buy toilet paper at the lower price and resell it? How does it work after you won the bet?

>>
>>1414796
The option allows you to buy it at a set price.
So if the actual price rises, you profit, because by exercising the option, you buy at the set price and immediately sell at the (now higher) actual price.

Ok but how. Lets say I now own 2 million rolls of toilet paper that I bought below market price. Who buys them? A competing toilet paper company?

Yes, but he lied about everything else and passed it off as personal experience to get his point across and he still refuses to acknowledge it.

What are some good undergrad target schools to break into IB at NYC?

At least, which schools have the best OCR?
10 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
breaking into IB is harder than breaking into these schools:

UPenn, NYU (Stern), Harvard, Columbia, Michigan (Ross), Cornell, and Princeton have great recognition + precense on Wall Street.

obviously schools like Stanford, Yale, Dartmouth, Duke. Georgetown, etc. have great name recognition but many don't go to Wall Street in comparison to the first list.

MIT kids tend to be quants.

some other schools with less name recognition (but still good schools), yet still a fair Wall Street precense (more often than not in boutiques...= less $$$) include Boston College, Texas, Rutgers, Florida, Villanova, and Virginia.

good luck I guess. (especially if you just found out what IB is and you only like the $$$)
>>
>>1414880
>Michigan over Dartmouth, Stanford and Yale
>Not even mentioning UVA (McIntyre)
I wonder which school you go to...
>>
>>1414929

Virginia is UVA, is it not?

OP asked for good target schools for IB in NYC. Dartmouth, Stanford, and Yale are obviously rated higher as academic institutions as a whole, but Ross has a large representation in Wall Street specifically because of the sheer number of alumni connections tied to its undergrad business school. Stanford kids tend to stay in the Silicon Valley and SF, rather than NYC. Yale and Dartmouth kids are well represented but not as much as those I mentioned before them, and many work IB in Boston. Nobody is going to shut down your application for going to Dartmouth, Yale, or Stanford instead of going to Ross though.

I went to Columbia. You?

I have a bunch of little shit that isn't worth a lot and I don't really want it.

However, I could make some money off of it. but i don't know if its really worth it.

I sort of use these things but not really.

Do I just sell everything, keep some stuff or what?

I just don't know what to do with all of my junk
9 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
F you cant even squeeze a meaningful rate per hour, such as minimum wage or what you make at work, then selling the shit is a waste of time. I have seen so many people sit on piles of rusty junk who use "i will be able to sell it one day" $_$ as an excuse not to get rid of it.

Do like they do on hoarders and seperate everything into keep, trash, sell and donate piles. Do those things at the end of the day. If it aint going to make you at least minimum wage for your time, trash it all. Youll thank me later.
>>
>>1414632
>>1414637
Or keep pushing it on E-bay, Amazon, every single selling site and keep pushing it for 5 years. You've already kept them for a long time, hold them and keep trying to sell them. There will be that 1 lunatic who buys your junk for a million dollars.
>>
I've had this problem. For some reason I could never throw out electronics. Various cables, power cords, video cards, motherboards.. I had a ton of garbage.

I decided to make a one year rule for myself to keep it under control. As in, if you haven't used it in the last year, you don't need it.

So far so good. I'm still a hoarder but within reason. Oh and when I did sell stuff initially I sold it all in bulk lots of similar items on Ebay. Depending what it is (like tools) - a garage sale might work too.

I was just wondering if there is any way that i can some how make money online somewhat easily with a skill you could learn pretty quickly.. i dont want you guys to comment surveys and junk because they get boring quickly. im expecting ideas such as website making or some other type of service. Please help me.

>>1414491
There's nothing you can learn quickly that will earn you money. If there was, it would be mainstream, everyone would do it and thus it would make no money.

You need to either be creative, be skilled/have experience in something valuable or do illegal things. Or a combination of any of the three.

I hate the city life. The crowded environment and shitty personalities are making life unbearable. I want to move out to a more rural area but I'm worried about the cost and job prospects. Where can you get cheap land with a small house that has a decent job market? Can I rent land out for agriculture or something similar to help with th4 costs?

How can I make 300€/month or 10€/day passive income? Will starting a Youtube channel cut it?

It's what I need for my "ideal" life

Youtubing isnt "Passive" income. You have to consistently update your channel with new videos and balance quality and quantity to make a successful place people want to revisit.

Do the Youtube videos make themselves?

So my parents fell for the small business meme a year ago (much to my objections) and blew most of their retirement savings on it. Now, they want me to "help" them out, still believing they can "turn their business around" by essentially guilt tripping me into giving them money to pay off their debts.

What do /biz/?

Just help out your parents for all the times they had helped you. Afterall raising you wasn't cheap for them either but realize that you won't ever see that money again. Of course you can limit how much you give them.

>So what's the actual point of studying indifference curves?

pretty much the most retarded shit you can find school books in general. because econ is not real science they make shit like this up to make it look like real science and create some content
>>
>economics
>applied

urgh, what are you? a filthy business student? in sciences nobody cares about applications...

actual answer: you're learning the foundations of a basic model that virutally all of economics is founded on. a homo oeconomicus exhibits rational behaviour when confronted with a decision between two goods. he's always trying to maximize his utility and this is how you put it into mathematical terms. if you understand why the curves look like they do, why they are monotonous, transitive, etc you understand a lot of basic assumptions in economics. it also completes the mathematical model and is the demand-side equivalent of the production curve, given budget restraints.

like most stuff you learn at university: the actual knowledge is mostly useless. *understanding* what's behind the knowledge is what'll serve you for the rest of your life.

or at least it's usefull to know where mainstream economics is coming from (if only to know exactly where they're dead wrong).

Good evening! Current employer matches my 401k contributions at 6%. Currently putting in 10%. Any reason not to lower it back to 6%? I just started doing this, and I'm noticing a huge decrease in each paycheck (about $500-$700), and could really use that money right now. Do I stick it out as long as I can, or go back to 6%?

>>
Your 401k is going to be worth pennies after the upcoming market crash
>>
>>1414249
The management fees on your 401k are much higher than getting your own index funds and filling your personal IRA (or ROTH).

Only ever contribute to max out your employer contribution because it is free money and then just add to your own retirement fund.
Or, just take that 4% difference and do something else with it.

401k management companies take a commission on money managed and then still have to pay the fund companies as well.
It is a series of Benefits Brokers>Mutual Fund Sales>Mutual fund managers which comes out to incredibly high fees when you could do that yourself with very little research.
>>
Only do the match. Markets aren't going to tank hard enough to lose that matching money.

Most traders also

Too many people are pro-BTC to the point of fanboy-ism. In the end it's not about who is "right" and what chain prevails, it's about making profitable trades and stacking money. If BTC is falling, I'm shorting and rooting against BTC. If it's rising I'm going long and rooting for BTC. Having favorites and a weird sense of morality is bad in crypto. Just make good trades.
