Hear me out AusFags.

Joining the Airforce or Army and pursuing something like aerospace engineering sounds pretty tempting..

3-4 years of debt free study at UNSW earning $43,000pa
1 year at RMC earning $50,000pa (airforce training)
3 years of service earning $73,000pa

You'll leave fully qualified and experienced, very employable in the international sphere, all income is completely tax free

Assuming you don't budget like a child, you'll have a net worth of around $200,000. All the above figures a minimums, and if you rank up, you'll break 100k tax free.

In contrast:
4-5 years at RMIT
60k debt
Have to work alongside study
Assuming you budget well, net worth of -10 to -20k
Leave with no real world experience, cheap Indian POOgrammer takes your job for 1/5th of the salary
Stuck in data analysis for life, earning 70k a year with tax

Does anyone here trade options? Would love some tips especially in the selling covered options
10 posts and 3 images submitted.
>>
>>1433069
OK. Sell your options when more than $500 each and strike is 3 months away.

Strike should be square root of current price added to current price.

That way you get time decay leveraged into what the educated buyer is plotting his call option purchase.

You're welcome.
>>
>>1433069
Li Sheng did, but it was exposed he was a mexican, so he quit visiting the board.

What do you mean by selling your options more than $500? What if I bought 2 contracts only that are worth $200?

depression.jpg

Without going into detail, I suffer from depression. When I was 18 I got into Online marketing (various methods from affiliate sales to adsense to ebay). Around the age of 24 I created a large enough revenue stream that I quit my "real" job and went full time self employeed as an online marketer.

I then had a string of horrible luck occur that essentially caused my entire life to restart (had to move back to home town etc) and my business died. I began dealing with the most severe case of depression I've ever experienced, and am still working through it, which is where this thread comes in.

Over the course of the last year, the amount of bad things going on calmed down and I started actually seeing some positive progression in my life. I was finally able to start functioning at a decent level again and have been re-building my online empire, with an interesting amount of success.

Recently, in the last 6 months I have begun laying out a plan of attack to re-build my online empire bigger and better, and more successful than i've ever been. In the last 2 months I have begun the initial steps to put this plan into action and again it's going well. Great even.

I have little doubt in the blueprints I've laid out, as every piece of the puzzle is something I've successfully done before, I just never realized how well I can put each part together to create one giant machine until now.

The problem is I am noticing that I'm having trouble -doing- it. I know how, I know i can, I've done it before, but when I get up in the morning it's such a challenge to just go do it, and it sickens me to know theres no reason I shouldn't be jumping into it head first.

What I can build has the potential to make me rich in the long term, and to live a nice, comfortable life how and where I want.

Anyone else suffer from depression? How do you stop it from holding you back like this?

You're simply lazy or secretly battling with self-doubt.

Depression is a son of a bitch. I had to go to therapy for a year and a half and got on medication. Depression is hard to understand to others because to them, it looks like you're just being lazy. But you need to find the root of the depression, fight it, and then you'll gradually start to feel more optimistic and motivated in life.
>>
>>1433144
The root is going to be self doubt.

Is being a wageslave really all that bad?
17 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
>>1432971
Nope. It's pretty great actually.

Many wageslave jobs are incredible comfy for a whole slew of reasons:
>Solid, consistent pay - You know every two weeks you'll be getting money direct deposited into your account
>Working maybe 3-5/8 hours a day - most of the time you spend doing other shit, reading news, getting water et cetera
>Great health insurance provided by your employer - if you were self employed it'd be rougher
>Gaining professional experience so you could always say "I did x, y, z at this company for x amount of time" as opposed to saying "I ran a shitty blog plastered in ads and affiliate links and also dropshipped bullshit on ebay for $200/month at its peak" if you want to get legit employed some time in the future

Overall comfy as fuck

My new employer matches 401k contributions up to 4.5%. I was just auto-enrolled in this program and have a week to decide if I want to opt out. I've never had a 401k or any kind of normie retirement account before.

I will have enough invested on my own to live "interest-only" and more than cover my expenses five years from now. I will be 35 when I am functionally retired.

Does it even make sense to contribute to this? I'm looking at all the fees and rules and regulations about withdrawals and it seems like I'd end up losing more than I put in unless I don't withdraw from it until I'm 65. I won't live in the US at that point and will definitely not be a US citizen either.

It seems like for my particular situation, just continuing my regular bonds/ETFs/mutual funds investing is the way to go.

Yes, they are matching your salary up until 4.5% your salary. It's free money. You can take it with you when you leave as long as you are vested. If you plan on being there long enough to be vested you would be a fool not too match it.
>>
>>1432899

Yeah its 4.5% free money. That's better returns that most dividend paying stocks.

Sure you are limited to to withdrawing it early or face tax consequences, but consider it a rainy day fund if you get screwed.

Oh and start with a SP500 fund for your 401K, but the older you get convert more to bond funds as you get screwed if the market crashes and you need the money.
>>
>>1432899
Man it's whatever. Most of the time you can request a full payout when you leave the company, so I'd contribute until you leave. Like it's been said above, it's free money.

It's failproof and will only take 2-3 years.

But you have to know that you'll get bored quickly and be depressed, just like dicaprio.

So /biz/ I want some advice on young investors.

I'm 18, just finished and got my diploma. I've been working a part time job while I was in school and have $1,000 that I can say I could comfortably put away to grow a little.

I have very limited knowledge as to ETF's and Mutual Funds and what nots. I've heard good things about Vanguard ETF's.

tl;dr What is the good option to put $1,000 in to grow for some years, while each month adding upon it self.

Cheers. I wish /biz/ was much more active then it is, it's one of my favorites.

If you are looking for safety and long term value, Roth IRA or bonds

If you are hoping for more action with you're investment, stocks/shitcoins

If you are willing to think big, go buy a house.

I had an option to put like $300 into BTC when it first came out when I was still in High School but I contemplate suicide I didn't buy at that $10 dollar mark :(.

What are your thoughts on ETF's I'm looking for something that has the chance/ likelihood of earning something monthly.

While I'm finishing up Probation and Legal issues and recovering from Surgery I'll be stuck around my area for another 2 months or so and then I'm planning on either getting certified as a Pipe Welder or HVAC Technician. Still not clear as to the solid path I want to take on life.
