Should I graduate with a associate's of business (general degree) or graduate with an emphasis on business management? The classes I took overlap enough for me to pick from two graduating majors next semester. Both transfer to the local university, however the later only transfers into business management. The general degree can kind of wiggle its way into almost all the programs, though in some cases it will require a couple extra classes here or there if the program isn't the general Bachelor's of Business. Thoughts? The general program also follows to an MBA, which the Business Management program follows to a MBA of business management more than anything. Though both can go to a standard MBA, it's just the difference in bachelor's degrees, which is where I might take a break for a bit before continuing.

Long story short:

Someone I know was selling his company for 2 million dollars.

I stepped in, found some buyers, and sold his company for him, for 3 million dollars.

So I got a million dollar "commission" or whatever you want to call it.

The deal just went through 3 days ago, my tax lady said I will have to pay over 400k in taxes.

Anybody know a way to avoid paying taxes on this? Any ideas will help. I don't care if it's a trust fund, reinvesting, ANYTHING will help, any ideas.

You should talk to someone who explicitly specializes in taxes. There are mechanisms to avoid taxes by putting the money somewhere else, but my knowledge on the topic isn't current (and most of my knowledge involves oldschool legal tactics, like passing inheritances to your kids). If you're about to make a cool million, for fuck's sake, hire somebody.
>>
>>1456523
I asked my tax lady and she said there's no way to do it... I'm hoping she doesn't know wtf she's talking about. I asked my friend who is a lawyer and he doesn't know either.

Im hoping I can find a savvy investor who knows the ropes.

if you put it in your bank account already you are fucked

should have made a corporation, had it operating at a 'loss' and documented such losses on the books generating net operating losses

then you should have had the money put into that corporation's bank account and used the net operating losses as tax credits against the gains

srry bro

As a chemical engineering student trying to find internships in the oil and gas industry, what should I look for in a company? For instance, this company will be at my career fair but they also filed for chapter 11 bankruptcy from what I saw on their site http://www.sandridgeenergy.com/
Am I better off looking for a company with a large market cap? In terms of future possibilities for upward mobility, what factors do I look for? Should I set my sights on a different job? Anheuser-Bush will be there too and I wouldn't mind working in their Houston brewery.

Chapter 11 isn't super unusual, but that isn't a great thing, to be sure.

If you have the choice between a big established company and a smaller one, it sometimes is better to work for the latter (albeit briefly) because the work opportunities are more prevalent. Big companies tend to be less flexible about letting you try new things and get your hands dirty. At the same time, your concerns are valid - that sucker could tank somehow (energy companies, being regulated, apparently have a hard time in general).

I'd recommend just interviewing broadly and thinking about it when you have real offers in-hand.
>>
>>1456484

Thanks. I will try to get as many interviews as possible.
>>
>>1456480
Any

The company itself is fairly irrelevant, it's the experience you gain that is important. Sure, a few get a job out of their internships but they are the exception rather than the rule. Internships are competitive enough that you'll be at a massive advantage over other graduates if you have any industrial experience at all. Like the other anon said cast your net wide.

I finally decided to get my finances in order and I'm trying to pay off 2 medical debts that are in collections. Both have been in collections since 2013.

The debts as reported on my credit report are $800 and $150 (2 different collections agencies). I have the money to pay that off in full. The debt collection agencies never contacted me that I'm aware (there may have been mail, years ago, but I wasn't organized enough to be going through all of my mail at the time).

Main concerns:
>Should I use the "Dispute your credit report" feature from the Credit Reporting Agencies to get the debt verified first?
>Do I just call the number on my credit report and say "Hey I've got a debt with you that I want to payoff."?
>How do I send payment? I've heard no electronic access to my account and that it should be done by certified check or money order. What about a cashier's check? Best option out of these?
>What if I call them up and they give me some line like "Whoa whoa there buddy, $800 was the original amount, you owe $1200 due to late fees and interest now."
>Do I ask if they can remove it from my credit report (pay for delete)?
>Do I ask for an email to be sent that says the agreed upon amount will satisfy my debt in full? Or a letter?

Any other things I need to be aware of?

Note that I'm not actually planning to negotiate down to a settlement. I'm planning to pay the full $800 and $150.

Plus, if you like the book, you can just keep it. I genuinely liked and kept some of my textbooks.

It's that easy. I also suggest penny stocks. Volatile, but can easily be cornered and shifted for profit.

S&W is too risky. Guns are a cyclical industry. People don't have $500+ to shell out in recessions on guns.

How to stay motivated when everything you try fails?
10 posts and 2 images submitted.
>>
Keep failing if you succeed Faggot
>>
>>1456380
Motivation is a false god promoted by idiots trying to sell you something.

Develop discipline and plow through failure.

Remember, 100% of the successful people in the world have experienced failure, and many of them have experienced more failure than the average person. What differentiated them is the desire to push on.
>>
>>1456380
You should be able to salvage something out of every failure. Even if all you get is a better understanding of what not to do.

If everything you do fails and you can't see any upside to that you should probably just quit trying. Most people aren't cut out for doing things, and that's fine.

Is grad school worth it? What are the best masters degrees to get? Is it easy to find employment with a masters, either due to the networking you experience while getting it or the level of education it carries? Tell me /biz/

>>

>top 20
More like top 100, you can still snag a 100k+yr job by getting an MBA period.

As for OP, getting a masters will always boost your career more than just your undergrad. If you have a Bachelor's of Business, a Master's will push you forward no matter what. However, work experience is the golden ticket in business, so I highly recommend staying at work and attending college part time or online as much as possible in order to continue getting real work experience.
>>
>>1456394
Grad school is a fucking waste of time. You can just study CS and get a 100k job after a Bachelor's.
