I make about $25,000 a year working a shit job. Ive saved about 7,000 and can save $10,000 by the end of the year. If I keep going in 3 years I could have $30,000. Should I keep going or should I start investing in stocks and double/triple my money by taking a risk? Also I was talking to a financial adviser and he said I should split up $2,000, 50/50 one for stocks and one for bonds. I was thinking putting 2,000 in stocks, but I should diversify my portfolio. I wanna be more aggressive so I could have high returns. Any advice?
Pic unrelated

unless you want to be a cook you should go active duty and quit your day job
also that guy gave you shit advice lol you don't need to put that much in bonds their returns are absolute garbage these days considering the low interest rates
>>1472583
Well I want to become a cop and Im going to go to college for criminal justice, and since im in the national guard I go to college for free. So I want to save as much money as I can right now. Once I get my license I will go and see if I can apply to the local post office. Active duty did sound promising one time but I had a plan. And yeah I know their returns are garbage, I knew I shouldn't have listened to him. Should I still put some in bonds, because I feel like I still need to diversify my portfolio.

Enlighten me why we don't tax the rich more /biz/? And by rich I mean net worths >$1 million
Because the rich are the ones who make the laws
>>1472511
Because you can use the same argument to tax the shit out of anyone with $100,000.
Just ask Maryland.
>>1472511
Why don't you use that 1 million dollars to make 1.5 million dollars on Poloniex in less than a month?
Hey! That's right.

I just want to make enough money to eat, sleep and play videogames for the rest of my life
what's the quickest way of doing it?
>>1472293
For perma-NEETdom, the term you're looking for is financial independence.
You're shooting for living expenses to be about 3% of your total portfolio (assuming we get anti-aging treatments within a few decades and Social Security becomes a no-go).
Depending on your savings rate, that'll be a decade or two:

>Just earn like $200k/year and invest all of it bro! Surely a lazy, unskilled loser could do this!
>>1472305
Notice that the link calculates based on savings rate.
You want to eat, sleep, and play vidya?
Fine, $500/mo rent & utilities for a studio in nowheresville with a roommate, $200/mo in food, $100/mo in vidya. $800/mo -> $9600/yr -> $320k in savings.
Even if you're a retard you can earn and save that much in 20 years. Especially with compounding over those 20 years.
Every time. Every. Fucking. Time.

What's the /biz/ theory on this?
I work some pretty sharp people. These guys are older than me but they're highly educated, work really hard and always seem to get things done. They probably make athe least 120k (upper management). Why don't people like this ever seem to be wealthy? Granted, they have families. But if guys like these went in real estate investing there is no doubt in my mind they would be successful. So why do intelligent people gravitate away from opportunities like this?
They might very well be wealthy but I can't detect it.
>>1472248
Sorry for the typos, on my phone
>>1472248
because $120k isn't really that much money, and they probably run through all of it on living expenses.
They'll be wealthy when they're older. People that make that much tend to work their way out of debt and into equity pretty quickly. But they're probably never going to be full on retired multimillionaires on a yacht.
those people are business owners, not managers.

>real estate investing
Getting started in real estate investing means exposing your personal assets to risk of total loss. You can (and some do) lose your house, your savings, your retirement accounts, your kid's college fund. No one starting in real estate gets a bank loan without giving a personal guarantee.
That's way more risk than most sane people are willing to take. Why risk going back to square zero when you can stay the course and retire as as a millionaire while providing a good life for your family?
Furthermore, being intelligent is not a guarantee of success in any venture, let alone real estate.
So, in short, both your premise and your logic are faulty.
Hello fellow /biz/nesspeeps,
Here's the deal. I am sitting on several million USD. I'm (mostly) self made, 27. I have come to the point in my life where I could use an underling--a Robin to my Batman. Anyway, I have been on 4chan for many years. This site helped me become the person who I am today. That's why I want to give back.
I am taking this opportunity to open up applications (to become my apprentice). I will leave applications open for the next week. There are no prerequisites and no criteria for entry except a throwaway email so that I can contact you should you win. Please type everything you want me to know here in three or fewer replies.
The winner will be flown to Seattle, WA, where you will stay and live on my compound for the next 12 months. All expenses (flight, food, lodging) will be taken care of, free of charge. You will live under my direction for the duration of your stay, and I will groom you to emulate my own success in life.
I am looking forward to hearing from you guys.

I'm saving 20 grand to invest. How much return should I expect to get if I put it in something risky?
>>1472197
I dunno man. How strong are you?

Strong af. I don't care about losing 20 grand because I will just save again and invest another 20 grand. I don't care how long it takes.
112% gauranteed

Does rags to riches actually exist, or is it just a figment of people's imaginations that you can go from nothing to something? Most of the SV success stories and otherwise seem to be people from fairly wealthy families, Zuck, Bezos, Gates etc
>>1471802
There are statistics kept on generational mobility.
Believe it or not there is still a good chance for poor people to get rich. Their chances are diminished of course. The upper class is actually growing. There is a greater division between the wealthier classes and the poor, and the middle class is floundering. Don't get me wrong--there are plenty of poor people who don't have a shot in hell at becoming rich, yet still believe they have a shot, which explains why some poor people are still voting republican outside social issues.
Not everybody can be rich but just by pursuing the dream you increase your chances significantly compared to lower class scum who never aspire to be anything.
>>1471811

Am I mentally fucked for the rest of my life? Is happiness not possible? I continuously want more and more.
I'm doing great for my age. Making around $10k/month after expenses, have traveled to every continent including Antarctica, have been with a couple girls that stun me as to why they chose me. But it's not enough...
I constantly belittle and call myself ugly. I'm constantly longing to own a Fortune 500 business, the playboy model girlfriend, and the multi-million dollar NYC condo. I hate myself and never think I've done well enough.
Am I doomed? You know the feel?
>>1471699
There are no more barriers to cross. All I have in common with the uncontrollable and the insane, the vicious and the evil, all the mayhem I have caused and my utter indifference toward it I have now surpassed. My pain is constant and sharp, and I do not hope for a better world for anyone. In fact, I want my pain to be inflicted on others. I want no one to escape. But even after admitting this, there is no catharsis; my punishment continues to elude me, and I gain no deeper knowledge of myself. No new knowledge can be extracted from my telling. This confession has meant nothing.
