What are bonds and are they worth it /biz/ (confused because everyone tells me different things)
33 posts and 3 images submitted.

They can be worth it but they're lower risk, which generally means lower returns.

Do your research, buyer beware, etc.
>>
>>1480242
Don't buy bonds right now. Yields are historically low.

For young people I.e 18-30, What percentage of your money should be in investments and what in cash?

I'm 24.5. I make 41k. Between my 401k and mutual funds I've got 25k. I have 21k between checking and savings. In the future id like to divert basically all of my money into investments and leave the 20k in the bank; equivalent to 6 months salary.

What do you guys do?
11 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
I'm comfortable with 10k in cash.
>>
>>1480205

This 'percentage' varies.

You should have six to twelve months of living expenses liquid (less if you rent, more if you own).

So if $21K covers your living expenses for six to twelve months, whatever percentage is formed by that compared to your investments is fine.

Beyond the six to twelve month safety net, savings/checking are basically worthless beyond being there in case you want to buy something.
>>
>>1480219

I already said 21k is six months salary

AUCKLAND—Korean Air’s exposure to troubled sister company Hanjin Shipping is expected to deal a huge hit to the airline’s finances this year. The carrier has forecast up to 383.3 billion won ($343.6 million) in losses related to its Hanjin investments. The giant shipping company entered bankruptcy protection this week, and some analysts say liquidation is a strong possibility. Korean Air and Hanjin Shipping are both part of the same Hanjin conglomerate.

Nut rage incident

The nut rage incident, also referred to as nutgate or nut return (Korean: 땅콩 회항, Ttangkong hoehang), occurred on December 5, 2014, at John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York City, when Korean Air vice president Heather Cho, having been dissatisfied with the way a flight attendant served her nuts on the plane, ordered the aircraft to taxi back to the airport's gate before takeoff.

First-class passengers, including Cho, were given nuts bagged in their original packaging (in conformity with the airline's procedures); Cho had expected them to be served on a plate in first class. Cho questioned the cabin crew chief about the standard procedure of serving the nuts. After a heated confrontation during which Cho assaulted him, Cho ordered him off the plane, requiring a return to the gate and delaying the flight by about 20 minutes. When the incident became public, Cho and Korean Air were heavily criticized, and in the aftermath, Cho resigned from one of her several executive positions at Korean Air. She was subsequently found guilty in Korean court of obstructing aviation safety and given a twelve-month prison sentence. The flight attendant and cabin crew chief returned to their positions by April 2016>>1480210

Because, uh, I'm pretty sure I only care about SK for keks/keeping NK from coming across the DMZ.

Some anon told me TD would let you for a few thousand (and I confirmed), but I suspect there's a gigantic catch in there.
Probably something to do with the sort of things they'd allow you to trade with that little cash.

Not positive, but I remember hearing that TD has better charting/studies and customer service, while IB has a better commission structure.

What's the /frugal/ way to do smartphones? How often do you get a new one? Do you resell your old one? I feel like I'm stuck in a cycle of buying one every two years

Quit being a sucker and buying into every new thing that's released. Only upgrade after your current one ceases to function in it's duties.
>>
>>1480150
One every two years is pretty standard desu. Usually by that time my phone has started to break or slow down a lot. I keep an old iphone as backup in case one breaks before the 2 year mark, and I try to avoid getting the most recent phones available since they are always overpriced, otherwise unless you can take good care of your phone it's tough to get them to last a long time unfortunately
>>
>>1480150
I don't own a cellphone. I probably save $100/month just with that.

if I need to make a call I use my landline. If I'm not near a landline I borrow my friends' phones. Everyone has one.

Hey /biz/, I need your help to determine whether this job is legitimate or a scam. I got an email a few days ago from Alba C. Navarro, in regard to a job opening to be a Journey Manager, for Transrutas S.A.

They said the job is about working with customers to plan their trips, and sometimes accept checks from them and go to Western Union or Money Gram to wire these transfers. They said they pay 3k a month, and I also take 5% of the payment as comission.

Now, I am aware of money transferring scams, but they never asked for anything personally identifying. Just my signature on a few pages, and address. I provided them to see where this goes, and they say I start work next week.

When I directly questioned her on the authenticity of this job, she replied back with the license of their company.

Is this legit or not? Will post more images showing my back and forth.

Hey /biz/, real tired of being an untermensch wagecuck here. What are some decent career options for the profoundly mathematically incompetent? I literally cannot into anything more complicated than simple arithmetic and extremely basic algebra.

I would have gone with the dick-sucking industry as you may suggest, but sadly I'm worried that I might quickly lose track of how many dicks are in my mouth at any given time.

It's soul-crushing seeing myself struggle with remedial math in community college, especially when even most associate degrees require advanced math. Even the tutors and instructors are a bit sick of me having to ask them for help over and over again, asking me if I had read the text/worked on the practice problems etc. (which I did).

Growing up, math just doesn't "click" with me; it all starts to look like Chinese characters together with a massive headache.

In the age of STEM, is there any hope, /biz/ bros?

I'd say sales. If you're in the top tier, you can earn big money. Insurance, real estate, financial planning, take your pick. But it's a shit sandwich until you get top the top end

>19. I'll be 20 by the end of the month
>No friends.
Actually, my friends left to study in other cities/countries. Their parents are helping them. I come from a working class environment so I can't rely on my parents.
>Dropped out of college. Twice.
>No job.
>Depressive and easily anxious. Not socially retarded though.

How do I make money, guys?
I gave 1200 euros to members of my family who were in a difficult situation. They raised me so it's only fair I help them. They're willing to repay me but only if I make money and go to that expensive school I'd like to attend.

I can't find a job. Nobody calls me back. I only worked 2 months in my entire life. I lie on my resume though but it doesn't seem to be useful.

Well my father was a big time real estate agent so I've been around salespeople all my life.

I'm fairly personable, and presentable, and am pretty much morally bankrupt. This seems like the right kind of path for me to try and follow, but at this point in my life I'm a dumbass 19 year old so I've really not got a clue.

They both have valid points. The bottom point is valid for teachers who actually give a shit and care about their students.

Which is not the vast majority of teachers.

Let's face it, public education is an absolute disaster. Teachers unions ensure bad teachers stay on the payroll. Public budgeting ensures bad schools get more money than good ones.

Okay /biz/, what the fuck is going on. I put 2k into SWHC, because I knew they were going to announce earnings and I had a good feeling about it. Well, when they released the earnings report yesterday after close, it was really good. Afterhours, the stock price went up 5%. Then today it's at the lowest it's been in 3 weeks. I just don't get it. They had a great earnings report, and raised guidance significantly. Why is it plummeting? I can't believe that a weak jobs report would account for a 7% loss in value after such a great earnings report. This is why I hate the stock market so much.

here's the break down of the earnings

So the deal with weapons manufacturers is that They do beegu business when there is an attempted gun grab. If there was another sandy hook or some such incident their stocks fly through the roof. In normal times most people aren't motivated to buy on a regular civilian market. Even though they had good earnings they don't have CONSISTENTLY good earnings. look at their earnings over the last 8 years. Alot of people feel like they've peaked and it's spooking people away from their stock.
>>
>>1479872
This is a good point, but don't you think that the stock would move sideways instead of plummet? I guess what I'm confused about is what's causing the selloff
>>
its simply the MACD
