Start a personal project Stat. It's not a meme.

I had a 2.7gpa, no internship, no network, no job history in industry. All I had was a music app I had written for android and a couple of shitty school project websites. Put out applications, during interview just talked about my music app and how it was constructed.

Got offered 70k job.

Put all personal and school projects on git hub, give them a link to your github along with your resume.

What did the app do and what were the school project sites?

Hi /Biz/nessmen

help me understand the math behind everything that we do.

Imagine this scenario here:

Assume that Im investing in something for 100 seperate trials, i have an average chance of 60% to win 5% of my investment, and a 40% chance to lose 2.5% of my investment.

now if we assume that I invest the same amount of money every trial, for example $10000, then we can figure out using cumulative binomial distribution:

there is a 90% cumulative probability that I will make a net profit of Equal or Greater than $10000 * [ (0.6 * 0.05 * 54) - (0.4 * 0.025 *46) ]

but now I want to know, what if instead of investing $10000 every time, I start with $10000, then just invest whatever I have the next trade and the next, assuming that my investment strategy is always fully scalable, then what is my net profit with a 90% cumulative probability after 100 trials?

another question I have yet to figure out, is how should I change the amount of money I'm willing to risk if I find myself in a situation where I know there is either less or more probability of me winning/losing,
with regards to maintaining the best net profit within a set number of trials while willing to take a 90% chance of being correct?

Eg. I want to maintain the most amount of net profit I can make in 100 trials with 90% probability. now I find myself with 10 available trades in front of me, but they all have 40-50% chance of winning 5% and 50-60% chance of losing 2.5%.

how should I change the amount of money I risk? if backing out of the trade is not an option

some of you guys are successful, you should know this right?
>>
I'll help you out little baby, give me a second.
>>

Okay, so in your binomial distribution you have:
p=0.6
n=100
And you want to find P(X>=x) = approx. 90%.
Binomial trials are discrete, so from the table you have to take 54, which gives P(X>=54) of around 0.907.

How much money you invest doesn't fucking matter. How many successes you have does.

If you have success, you multiply your money by 1.05. If you have a fail, you multiply your money by 0.975.

In the worst case scenario, you have 54 successes and 46 fails.

So, you want to invest $10 000? Good.

$10 000 * 1.05^54 * 0.975^46 = $43494.51 (That's a lot of trials for good investments).

So a profit of $33494.51. You have less than 10% to be worse than that.

As for your second question, again, it doesn't matter how much you invest. Your gains are %-based, so who cares?

However, finance buddies have something called "Utility", so it depends how rich you are and how risk-loving/risk-averse you are etc.

First timer here, absolute rookie. Found a product I might be interested in importing from Alibaba. Children's swimming equipment, used by school/community pools everywhere. Can't find any decent competition in my country.

Problem is, I am not sure if pools (almost all are school/community) would buy from me. I want to get more info from them so that I can know how much they pay, if they would buy branded, and the likes. Yet I'm not sure how to approach them as there are no direct email addresses, only council ones. Should I just pose as a high schooler conducting a survey and try get the councils to pass it on to somebody? absolute lost here, could use some input.

/biz/ I need advice

I'm currently a full time hourly employee making $21.50. I'm required to go on about 5 business trips per year.

I have been offered a salaried position with an approximate pay of $47,000 to $50,000, but I will be traveling almost every week.

Does the increased travel demand make up for the small pay increase?

It is by most views, a scam. It's possible to make money doing it, but you could just work equally as hard at something else and make more money. You're friend wants you in there because he probably gets a bonus for bringing you in or a cut of your commissions if you end up selling shit.

Okay, so this is kinda /biz/ related I suppose. Im sure most people at least somewhat well versed in business know that the big boys at the top are all very effective speed readers. Whats the best way to go about learning this skill? Ive done a little research, but it would seem that most programs are locked behind a fucking paywall.

>tl;dr
Redpill me on speed reading.

>>
>>1569335
Speed reading is a meme. Most studies on it suggest that comprehension is sacrificed for speed by using the tips recommended by companies that offer paid courses on the topic.

The reason some people can read quickly is because they spend a good portion of their day doing it and are experienced in extracting info relevant to their job. Want to improve your reading in general? Read well written articles on a daily basis. Pick up a subscription to the NYT or the Economist (or see if your local library has a subscription through zino for them) and your reading speed should naturally increase over time.
>>
This tbqh
Also just work a job long enough, if you're smart you'll get the hang of it. I skim emails and always get what I need out of them in <15s because I know how people write and what's actually going to be relevant in their stupid 3-paragraph blather
>>
>>1569439
Thats the thing, from what ive read, lots of people acknowledge this kind of thing. It would seem that most paid speedreading programs are a load of shit. Things like, which one guy said advertising his product, "watching tennisballs bounce around your screen, trying to follow them with your eyes, isnt going to help you read any better". Which seems kinda obvious to me, and the guy who must have spent ~50 bucks on that program. There is probably some truth to that loss of comprehension though, i wont deny that.

>>1569443
From my understanding skimming=/=speed reading. Skimming is looking for keywords, while speed reading is kind of just reading faster while attempting to retain the same info, based off the premise that your visual cortex can process info faster than your auditory can since most people "read aloud in their head".
