I have to make a tough decision this winter. Should I go study Information Systems or Finance? I want to work hard and eventually end up making six figures in a year. Are tech companies (big or small) the way to go, or do you recommend a career in finance? (investment banking or consulting)
I'm very interested in both of these paths.
As an IT worker Finance is officially better askt things considered. What you learn there is going to be relevant for most if your career. In IT you gotta pull in long hours year after year just to keep yourself in the game.
Go for CS or math so you could work in both.

I want to hear your game plan to becoming a millionaire/multimillionaire/billionaire.
If you're inclined to say "money isn't everything" fuck off. No one said it was.
I will gradually generate large amounts of money from various ventures until I have $1m.
Millionaire: Either the drug I'm working on is successful, I get FDA approval, and I sell it or I just roll my salary into real estate investments through VA loans until it breaks one million. Hell, even a normal job making six figures let's me crack this easily in my 30's as long as I invest.
Multi-millionaire: Plantation. I will not elaborate, but I have no doubts about it working. If my drug patent doesn't get me here the plantation will.
Billionaire: This one is fucking tricky. I'm probably only going to make it to a billion if I either get lucky on my investments or if I happen to accidentally crack cold fusion while I'm finishing my nuke engineering program.

Would joining the freemasons be a good networking opportunity or a waste of time?
inb4 trolling kek
>>1574010
I'm honestly not trolling. I found my grandad's masonic ring and realized it matched the symbol on what I thought was a church near me - turns out it's a local freemason lodge.
They sound kind of like a mix between boy scouts and church, both of which look good on a resume. So why not the freemasons?
>>1574004
I don't know. Do you know anyone that's in it? It's not the sort of thing you can just apply for and you need to be a man of good faith and morals as well.
The fees can be pretty intense as well depending on the lodge you join.
Hi /biz/,
I live in the UK, I'm 25yo and have spent 7 of those years working for an independent nightclub.
I've managed to "move up" with in the company to a front of house cashier position within the last 4 years however my pay has only increased about £2 per hour and mostly due to legality (minimum wage). I'm currently boasting a whopping £7.70 an hour.
My Responsibilities include:
-Security of Ticket Office (safe room, keep it locked etc)
-Count money in safe (2 -8k)
-Handle change transactions for other tills
-Sort out any on the night payments (DJ's, Money for staff wages),
-Correctly invoice for said payments
-Ensure customer entrance is managed effeciently, politely and accurately (including staffing)
-Ensure ticket lists for ticketed events are up to date
-Assist in cashing up other tills in the club
-Investigate discrepancies on said tills and pass on information
-Input bar figures, door figures, staff hours for the week into excel
-Train other cashiers
-Provide support to all staff in cash related matters
-Amend existing procedures and write new procedures as necessary
-Assist the Bar manager in amending the staffing rota.
I think that a pay rise is due, and or being permanent staff.
How much money would you want to do this job. Working between 20 - 30 hours a week
Time to leave m8? You would earn more working admin at the council.
For the work you do, I would ask for £9-£10 an hour.
>>1573998
Thanks anon. It might come to that, it would be a real shame as its a lovely working enviroment even for a night club
£8.20/50
Just a hunch, but for you to have all those managerial-esq responsibilities on that kind of money, your boss has learnt to squeeze you for lame pay as you have had little history of pushing for a raise.
It may be a case where you have to imply not getting a raise will regretfully force you to look elsewhere for work, then they might budge.
Although everything I said could be irrelevant because I've never worked in the nightclub industry. It wouldn't surprise me in the slightest if all nightclub owners were cunts who always pay their staff shit

My only regret is not investing more holy fuck.
I wish I had more money to invest with honestly. It'll come with time, I guess.

Hey biz,
I want to sell ice cream for a living. It's been my dream since I was a young boy.
I have 30k saved up. Should I go out and do it independently or buy a franchise? Anyone done this before?
I don't know much about franchising, but I do know that you will never get a bank loan to start an independent ice cream shop.
You can go independent, but you had better be damn sure to not trademark infringe on the ice cream chains.
people today expect a maggie moos/coldstone/marble slab experience in an ice cream shop. So you will need to offer the customer the ability to mix fruits and candies into their ice cream.
I believe in you OP. Going into business for yourself is a risky proposition though.
One of my client's retired from the Army and it was his dream to run an ice cream parlor. He was out of business and broke within a year.
>>1573868
Buy a couple of ice cream vans in semi decent condition. Hire people to man them, all the rest of your focus should be on finding, bidding on and securing good pitches in tourist cities and events.
Forget about opening a parlour.
I just tried to negotiate for 20% more base salary over e-mail.

Solid growth, unanimous buy ratings given by analysts with consensus over $20 target price, high demand service (especially with all of the shootings and attacks this year), so why is evbg so low? It is worth at least like 30% higher than current price. They also recently signed a $12 million contract in the state of Florida for hurricane season and were involved in hurricane Matthew. Why aren't more people buying this stock?

Do corporate suits really find it autistic when you speak to them frankly and bluntly instead of like some corporate robot? I just interviewed for a shipping manager position, a job for which I am well qualified, but the guy reminded me of fucking pic related and he seemed to think I was crazy. I have experience in this work, but the company I was family owned and relatively small, where the owners didn't have MBA's and spoke the way people actually talk. I know how to manage shipping and receiving, but dealing with suits is a bit out of my wheelhouse apparently.
What the fuck is wrong with you?
>>1573687
>out of my wheelhouse
You were probably just annoyingly arrogant like all millenials. You'll step into a management spot with zero experience outside of working for mommy and daddy in no time.
>>1573687
I don't know what your job exactly entails but I can imagine them having little interest in you as a person if you effectively perform the job of a machine.
If you don't develop or design anything for them directly and only work on a daily immutable bullet point list then your higher ups will keep at a stick's length.
If you try to come closer they see you as high maintainance and are likely to resent you for it - after all, you should know what to do, and they have a million other things they have to do other than caring about you.

I have a vast array of skills but I'm thinking something along the lines of building a landscaping crew, playing stocks, making wooden furniture or knick knacks, buying a car to Uber with, maybe even like high risk stocks. Stuff like that. Thoughts? Pic unrelated. A little project truck I'm building.
