Destroyed competition for big banks by making it near impossible to start a small bank in the United States, much less maintain it. Guy in the Wall Street Journal wrote an article a couple years ago talking about how he couldn't start a small bank in America because of all the regulations and he moved to England and became very successful starting one there.

The regulations caused more industry consolidation, but the problem goes even deeper. The issue isn't the industry consolidation itself, it's the underlying investment strategies taken on by these banks (which brings into account all sorts of other variables like monetary policy, in the case of 2008 the community reinvestment act, etc. etc.)

Tl;dr the bill was supposed to tighten the noose around too big to fail and only made them more influential

I always hear the Left and Libertarians say immigration helps a nation's economy. The Right say that it pushes the lowest class out of the market, and also the immigrants go on welfare.

Is Immigration good for a nation's economy? Is it good for the quality of life of the citizens? Does welfare throw a wrench into all of this?

Immigration is horrible for all aspects, worse being quality of life of citizens. They tend to raise crime rates, drop household income, drop standard of living, increase unemployment, and drain the country's welfare system. They also often do not share the values and ideals of their new country which creates lots of problems
>>
>>1609870
Yes, yes, and no.
They help businesses by providing better labor at lower costs.
The institution of welfare is the problem, not the people taking advantage of it.
>>1609879
I think you have a correlation versus causation issue there with those statistics you cited. The second point is valid, but I believe the benefit that they provide to businesses outweigh their difficulty in assimilating to American culture (as if America has a cohesive culture anyway).
>>
>>1609870
Foreigners file more parents than natives here in the USA, most of our inventors aren't natives, much of our STEM workers are immigrants, and they contribute greatly to the economy and provide jobs and create wealth

It outweighs the shitty jobs displaced by immigrants, who don't even end up claiming benefits often cause they can't, but still pay sales taxes

So is getting into HR a good choice? As of now I am an accounting major, but I am hating it. I liked it in the beginning, but I really don't think I could do this for a living. I guess it's better than going into just business admin, right?

Anyone here in HR?
Do you enjoy it or do you want to kill yourself?

How many of those Britbong Millionaires are actually the Arabs in Kensington with bad collagen?

I'm really surprised by France and Taiwan being so high, I suppose in France it's the status of Paris as a "world city" that attracts businessmen, yeah?

Germany is no big surprise: robust and developed economy, large older population, and they squirrel away their money unlike the South Europeans. Tight fisted Krauts.

Is the economy really in a bubble right now?

Will Trump really be the one to pop it?

Hello, I'm not usually a poster here so pardon me if this is not the right forum, but this is really a HUGE decision for me and I really want to take the correct path

I'm 23 and if everything goes according to the plan I'm getting my Human Resources diploma here in Buenos Aires (Argentina).

I've been saving and selling most of my collectibles (I had some really rare MTG cards) and I want to buy my first property, to live on my very own place. Now, I've been watching a lot of flats, since they are the cheapest ones, and I managed to find a semi-good deal in a 2 years old building, it's a 2-room apartment, pool, and it's in the middle of one of the most "cool" neighborhoods, where all the bars and expensive discos are at. The bad thing is that it is a small apartment, but it's in impecable condition, and it only has $1200 of condo fees per month (which will hurt but I can pay for it)

So it looked like that was going to be my new home, but then I saw an ad of this 60-year old horizontal-property in a much more residential neighborhood (the one my friends and family live in). The good thing about it is that it's like two thirds of the price of the apartment, and it has no manteinance fees. The bad side is that it's in HORRIBLE condition. I've been trying to calculate, and all the repairs and paint and stuff will bring me more or less equal to the apartment. But, on the good side, it's a house, not an apartment, and it's 3 rooms instead of 2, + a small semi-floor that could be a fourth room.

So my question is, do you think the effort to put it back into an acceptable state will be worth it? I don't plan to live here the rest of my life, but I think if I manage to get it to a very acceptable level I'll be able to make it worth a lot more.

Guys, I have a great idea

Ok, imagine there was this charity. The charity is called Pay Anonymous His Living Expenses. What this charity does is give me a non-taxable gift, once a month, for enough cash to pay my rent, bills, food, entertainment and a bit extra for my savings account.

Ok, with me so far?

Ok, now imagine I have a job, and I donate 100% of my salary to said charity. This means I pay no income tax as donations are tax deductible.

Right, so the result is, I pay no tax! No tax at all.

Is this glorious or what?

>>
>>1611895
Ok, so imagine my friend has a charity for him and I have a charity for me. We both earn the same amount and we both pay into each other's charity.

Or what if there were 100 people. Maybe 1000s of people, who found each other on the internet, and each pays into a different charity each month.

Or what about something else. Imagine the donations to the charity were made using bitcoin. So there is no way to know who paid into the charity.

Hey /biz/, I decided today that I'm going to move out of my apartment and into my truck. I would like some advice on what I'm getting myself into. what do I need, what don't I need, what to expect, things I can't have without a home address, stuff like that. any and all criticism and advice welcome.

>background info:

21 year old (don't drink, smoke, drugs, none of that crap). living and paying for college on own for past 3 years. I live the deep south. I drive a 96 extended cab s10. I have about 5k in the bank. Pre-med junior at a smaller university. I have no family in this state. Used to have an awesome job about $13/hr non taxed but no time anymore, and I had a side business which i made good money from. Now, I need clinical hours so I have to work at a clinic every hour I am not at school for minimum wage or volunteering. Days I don't have to work I spend at the school all day cramming. Parents make too much so I don't get any financial assistance. Monthly expenses come to about 1000$ and I make at the clinic about 500$ a month.

>My plan so far:

my school has a parking garage and so i plan to just park there in the corner and just wake up before everyone gets to school. shower in the school gym, and hangout in the library or around campus during the day(I like to read anyways). Pay for a Postal box so I can get my mail sent there. eat school meals or stuff that I don't need to cook. use laundromats to wash clothes. This way I should only need to pay for insurance, food, phone, washing clothes, and gas.
>should i rent a small storage unit to put stuff in it, like clothes, my shotgun that my gpaw gave me(can't have on campus so can't keep in truck), bed stuff? or should I just say screw it and throw them all out.

what do you think anon? any holes I need to fill? Will I commit suicide 3 weeks into it when I come into realization? or will I be happy that I'm not spending 650$ month on rent, 85$ wifi, 25$ electricity, 120$ gas to get to school, etc.

Why don't you live off a storage unit? I rent an RV storage unit where I run my buisness off of, you could rent something like that park your truck in there and sleep for the night.

Where in the deep south? I assume hot weather is gonna be a killer.

Just remember to take care of your teeth. Dental work is fucking expensive and you won't want to have that problem in a few years.

Also, have a backup for med school. Most doctors would never go that route again because their work/life balance sucks balls. Engineering is a decent way if your maths are good enough.

First semester economy student here. I have a question about economics.

So I just learned that private and public goods are categorized by Excludability and Rivalry.
(further explained here too https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Excludability )

So something like milk at a grocery store is a private good, because you need money to buy it (or else you are excluded from getting it), and there is a limited amount of milk (rivalry between customers).

As a consequence of this, if you steal milk, you are effectively stealing money (because the owner was going to sell it for money), and you are hurting your community (because now other people can't buy the milk).

Software is not a private good, as there's no rivalry. You can replicate and download it infinitely.
If i download software illegaly, i am not hurting the community, i am merely stealing money from some rich businessman/engineer.

It is morally wrong to steal (e.g. from a grocery store) because you are hurting the community. This is what people get taught from childhood up.

But is it morally wrong to illegaly download software?

>>
>>1611439
Or to go with the examples on the Wikipedia link, which are similar,
is it morally wrong to sneak into a cinema without paying? Or trespass onto a private park?
>>
>>1611439

fuck morals, nobody cares about morals. I don't care about morals. If you can't sleep at night because you downloaded something you're a pussy ass bitch.
>>
>>1611439
it is immoral if you would buy chosen program but instead you download it illegaly

because a owner of rights didnt get paid

a community indirectly is hurt because a producer may not have motivation nor funds to continue his career thus not satysfying clients

Is it possible to become a programmer from home reliably? If I can make at least 30-40k and have that buying power the rest of my life I'm set.

It's completely possible, just start with YouTube tutorials on how to make games with Unity and get some expirience, then either start making your own games or sell your skills and help program for other people.
