Hey /biz/, I took up an internship at an investment bank in Chicago. It was a boutique firm, but I soon found out that one of the other interns was on Adderall. I bought probably ~$60 a week in pills starting the third week into the internship. I was pretty worried about them doing drug testing, but after a month went by and nothing happened I felt much better about it. How do banks view the practice of taking prescription drugs like Xanax or Adderall if you're discreet about it?

They don't care bro. You're in Finance, nobody is going to fire you over using amphetamines, when some of the higher ups do coke.
>>
>>1639998

winning cures everything.

If you are the number 1 salesman at a firm I bet you could shot up Heroin in front of the boss and they would find a way to sweep it under the rug.

Drug tests and failures are usually used to broom out people they don't want there anyway.

Hi. Marketing student, offered to be manager in a rock club.

Pretty famous in the area back in the day (early 2000's), but completely ruined now bc of shitty workers and the owner didn't give a fuck for many years.

Should I get the job? Is it worth trying to revive a business like that?

>>1639913
Sounds like you'll never be able to get it back to its heyday even if you tried. They've already alienated their current customer base, it may prove to be more effort than its worth to win them back, if that's even possible.
>>
>>1639913
>shitty workers and the owner didn't give a fuck
If these workers or manager are still working there, fuck that. If you get the opportunity to clean house, go for it. Working with shitty managers/staff in the hospitality business will make you go insane. If you don't have the ability to fire or hire at your own discretion, say no.
>>
>>1639937
They lost the sense of business here, they don't care about the customer anymore. They treat the local as a home, play their music, bring up their friends... One of this shitty waitresses is leaving tomorrow, but I'd still have to work with the other one.

The owner isn't seen in there for weeks, sometimes.

Do firearms ever go down in value, assuming they aren't some banned/import restricted thing? For example, do Glock 19's, Beretta 92FS, and 1911 handguns ever lose value assuming the owner took care of it?

Is owning several firearms financially not a bad idea? I see so many people with these collections of like 10 handguns, 5 shotguns, 8 rifles or whatever, and I just think "that looks pretty ridiculous, he probably shoots one per month if that" but then I think whether or not they ever lost their value. Do guns lose value like a car off the lot or anything like that?
6 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
Who wants a gen 2 Glock that was mass produced?
>>
>>1639871
Collecting guns is no different from collecting video games or barbie dolls.

Most of them are mass produced which means they probably won't increase in value very much. Those that will are a crap shoot: weird serial numbers, factory errors, prototypes, shit that was so unpopular it created scarcity, etc.

You're better off investing in Walmart and McDonald's, because at least they pay dividends, rather than investing in toys and twenty years from now hoping the Pawn Stars won't low ball you an offer on your fantastic Smurf collection.
>>
The basic laws of supply/demand apply. It gets sticky when you throw in factors like import restrictions that may or may not change, and whatever the current political climate may be.
Guns typically get more expensive when Democrats and liberals get elected, the logic there being that they would be more likely to legislate stricter gun laws, and the government cannot take what you already own (which in and of itself is a flawed assessment).
Currently we have a strained relationship with Russia especially in terms of import restrictions, so our once copious supply of Russian surplus weapons and ammo has dried up. This is the reason that Mosin-Nagant rifles from the 1930s are now ~$220 instead of the $100 or so they were ten years ago. However, if what people expect Trump to do happens and we rebuild our relationship with Russia, then those import embargos might relax and we will once again see cheap surplus rifles and ammo.

So the value equation is much more complicated than something like a car.

Can anyone offer a concise summary explaining why de-regulation became such a popular policy in the 1970's - 1980's?

Was there a particular catalyst event that left people disenfranchised with government agencies?

Not looking for opinion into how de-reglation has affected the economy just insight into why it was so popular during that time in particular

my understanding is that the southern strategy was to capture anger at the government for the civil rights victories of the 60's and direct it at regulations that fetter business. All in the name of profit of course.

This strategy is still working, notice that the GOP promises trade regulation and tax cuts as well as getting rid of illegal immigrants. Watch what actually happens though, since exporting jobs, importing cheap labor, and cutting taxes on the wealthy are all normal agendas of business. The GOP runs on a populist platform but delivers primarily to biz.

The libertarian and anti-establishment types found on both sides but particularly on the right are just useful idiots. Nobody is going to ban abortion, nobody is going to fetter the businesses that sponsor them, and nobody is going to reduce the size of the military/industrial complex that employs them. That would be silly.

of course this betrayal just results in more anger with the government and the cycle continues.

You didnt put in the work the first time, so you have to do it now

You have no choice but to intern and wageslave at the same time, and hope your internship turns into a job

But really, what is up with you fuckwits not getting internships while in college when you know youre going into a career field that needs experience
>>
>>1639617
I had a part-time job with extremely flexible hours that I got through nepotism and I was told that if I left for an internship I might not get it back afterwards.
How could I even get an internship? I am financially stable and could even do an unpaid one if I had to but every internship I've ever seen has "working towards a degree" as a requirement.

/Biz. I make 260e a week working at a bar while I work on music. I need to start snowballing this small amount of money I get weekly into more money...I've looking into shit like buying from china and selling on ebay for profit or amazon etc but I don't think I would make enough back for it to be even worth it. Plus building the rep as a seller. I'm willing to commit time to any options really, as long as it has a return that is worth it. Any suggestions?

sell cars and houses. that's what poor people with no skills do.
>>
Have skills but no work available hence the bar
>>
>>1639584
the problem with reselling is that your money becomes illiquid. you only have cash in what is sold and some items may not sell as expected.

if you're working on music, why dont you investigate ways to profit off that? Like selling samples or preset packs

So I recently came upon an article about the insane price hikes in some lego sets, and I realized that this is essentially a risk free investment!
>buy some expensive lego set
>it goes up in price
>sell at a profit
>it does not go up in price
>you have some nice legos to play with or to gift to some relatives kids
Plus, they are only at maximum in the low $100 to start with (if yo buy them new, instead of hopping onto the speculation train and buying some stuff that already rose in price, hoping it will rise some more).
I'm really thinking about starting to buy some legos again…
Now, of course that can only be some small and really minor addition to a portfolio, but still, turning lets say $160 into $2000 is some nice pocket money for a nice holiday or something.
What else are some things where you might get some nice price hikes but still have a product you can enjoy, if those hikes don't occur?
So far I only came up with:
>watches. If you dont get money out of it, you still have a nice watch.
but the entry fee might be rather steep, since watches under the thousands rarely become really expensive. plus, it seems like the watch market might be bubbling anyways.
>"young" classic cars. If you dont get money out of it, you still have a nice, everyday car
There is some, still ubiquitous cars from the 80s or even 90s that might turn into collectors items soon, but are still 100% useable for everyday driving.
