I told my kid to get a secured credit card and use it once or twice a month. Pay off the balance every month so it doesn't cost anything except annual fee if it has one.

seems cheaper and probably just as effective. Also I found when I had no credit I couldn't even get a small loan of $1k without putting up collateral or getting someone to co-sign.

Depends, what do you want from your credit card? If you have savings you can probably manage your money, so you won't carry a balance, so either low / no annual fee and potentially a cash back deal, or do you say, travel overseas 3 months of the year? If so find one with free travel insurance & save dosh that way. Need to decide what you want from your CC, makes it easy.

Its not easy to hack :) takes ages to master the skills, and lots of patience. Plus, you'll have to rip your real life.
