> If the S&P500 were equal to the DJIA, it would be lower!

>WHY AREN'T YOU GETTING IN BEARISH 2X, 3X ETFs

Youre assuming that the S&P is fairly valued. At 17.1x forward earnings, it likely isn't. Beware.
>>
Though if you are really convinced of this idea and want to put a trade on it, you could long the DJIA while shorting the S&P. You profit as long as the indexes converge. If they diverge or if your trading costs are larger than your gains, you will lose money.

The biggest thing that changed my thinking in 2016 was valuing my time. It doesn't matter if you earn $7.25 an hour, your time has a value. Oddly enough, if you are on a low income, non work related activities (such as selling things you don't need on eBay, optimising your cell plan, etc) constitute a better hourly rate than you could earn otherwise.

If you are NEET I suppose your time is worth zero or whatever mechanical Turk are paying nowadays.

I'm on a good income now so my time is worth about $100 an hour, because I'm in sales I can use my non business hours time researching prospects or planning activities during business hours.

I don't see much return in shitposting here though :)

I take every toll road and value my recreational time - not just for the value of my time but good quality relaxation makes me more productive when I am "earning"

I don't have that much in student debt, just a little less than 6k. I still live with my parents for free so I don't have any real expenses. I bring home a little less than 2k a month (after taxes, company insurance, and 401k). And have 6k in the bank right now. I also have other miscellaneous debts because i'm on probation but they only amount to 1k at most. So far I've been paying about 200 a month more or less towards the loan. So what do you guys think should I just make a large payment like 3000 towards the loan right now?
25 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
>>1717900
well depends if you can reduce the principal part of the loan without penalty the sooner you pay it off the better you are long term.

on the other hand liquid savings as emergency funds are very important.

and if your student loan has very good rates so goo in fact that investments beat it then don't pay it off.
>>
What are you other debts and how much are they?
>>
>>1717909
I pay about 3.15% on the loan. Yeah the whole emergency fund aspect is the only thing holding me back, however I live with my parents, other than some sort of car accident happening, I can't think of any emergency that I could be liable for.

Hello /biz. I have 2,000 - 3,000 dollars to invest and I am raising funds to start a Payday/Commercial Loan business.

FAQ

>What is a payday loan?

A payday loan is a type of short-term borrowing where an individual borrows a small amount at a very high rate of interest. Usually at a (((300%))) APR.

>Why Payday lending?

In my home state of Florida there is relatively low startup cost and is a business with a lot of potential of growth. Here is a break down of all the costs

Licensing costs : $4,000
Website design/domain/web development: $500 dollars
Lease Cost: 0 (This is an online business)
Legal liability documents/enforcement documents/etc: $5,000
Operating capital: $15,000

>Isn't lending to poor people dangerous

Yes and no. While it is true the default rate for people with low credit scores is higher, payday lenders are given a plethora of legal tools to collect and mitigate the risk of defaulting loans.

Enforcement tools:

>National Database of every payday customer currently taking out a loan
>Payday lenders can ask for collateral possessions like cars
>Payday lenders ask for a plethora of information such as bank account, address, employment information, pay stubs, credit score.
>Payday lenders can sue in Florida and have your wages GARNISHED.

Is /biz interested? I am trying to find another 9 people looking to buy a small stake in this business (10% a stake for 10 people total at a cost of 2,000 dollars).

I wouldn't take a salary and all the money would go towards the business.

Likewise, the business would give out dividends every 4 months if we are making a profit.

As the articles of incorporation management, business decisions (such as direction of the business such as what we would do with the capital of the company), will be taken by the stake holders (all investors) in a bi-yearly (recorded) stakeholder meeting.

Don't know whether to post this here or /o/ but basically I bought a new car a few months ago. Monthly payment is ~$330, insurance is ~$250 (including my other car, which is paid off).

I have $28,000 left on the new car, which at this rate is roughly ten years of repayment. Should I just go ahead and pay it off? I am 24 and never had a credit card so I was using it to build credit, but I am starting to question if that is a wise decision.

1.9%. I'm not good at math, I just did (28,000 / 330) / 12 = 7. Plus some growth, that's probably ~10, right?

I agree that valuations are stretched and that theres no reason to pour extra money into stocks right now, but trailing PE ratio means absolutely nothing. Using trailing PE would lead you to buy after a top (PE is low; prices have fallen but you're still looking at historical earnings) and miss the recovery from a bottom (PE is high; prices have advanced due to higher expectations but trailing earnings are still low).

Markets look forward. Logically, forward PE is a far more informative ratio. It's at 17.1x, which is high by historical standards. Average is 15.1x.

if banks are so money hungry and evil why do they use compound interest instead of simple interest? seems like the better thing to do
15 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
I'm generously getting compound interest of 0% on both of my bank accounts. I'm so grateful! Soon they'll be offering negative interest rates. Wow!
>inb4 just change accounts
They all have the same rates. Might get 2-3% in an ISA if you lock away your money for 1000 years.
>>
they give 1% interest on savings and take 6% on loans. i don't know, why would they ever prefer compound interest?

real talk though: compound interest is just simple interest with 100% re-investment. of course they'd rather keep your money and never pay you out than only keep the principal and pay you out every year (and since holding your money is their primary purpose - pay you out how / where to?)

What is up with the lack of whistle blowers and snitches in business?

Let's take the companies Google, Amazon and Facebook as examples.

Google and Facebook are obviously mining and selling their users' personal data and Amazon is using monopoly price tactics to drive out competition. There must be some people in the company who know all about this, if no one else then the people who are doing the programming must know about it, data mining and selling data in Facebook and Google's case, I'm sure that Mark, Larry, Eric and Sergey don't do much programming at their companies anymore if at all. And the people looking at the competitions' products' prices and setting Amazon's products' prices lower than theirs in Amazon's case.

What is stopping those people from snitching? High salaries? What would a programmer or someone who knows what's going on be making in such cases? Those people can blackmail the owners, and if the owner doesn't comply they can snitch and if he fires them they will surely snitch. What should the people in charge do in such cases?

All this reminds me of the movie The Insider, even though the tobacco industry threatens the man with death in it, he still blows the whistle. What's stopping that from happening now?

I should mention that I have absolutely nothing against these companies, I'm just using them as examples.

I'm not some bleeding heart liberal with something against big businesses or corporations either, I'm just curious about all this.

There are similar issues in banking.

The problem is that you're destroying your career by doing this. There are laws against employer retaliation, but they are incredibly hard to build a case for. Don't expect promotion after promotion when you just brought the wrath of God down on your company.

You're also frozen in place at your current job. The moment that your name reaches the news headlines (as it will if you break a major story about a giant company), you are instantly unemployable to anyone else. No one wants to hire a legal liability.
>>
>>1717762
I'm sure OP is referring to the Assange and Snowden type here, i.e. the "just fuck my life up senpai" type of whistleblower.

And since we've had cases of people going against entire governments and risking their lives (like the aforementioned ones) I believe we should've had at least one guy willing to risk his career by going against some big company.

Any of you peeps know how to set up a blog?
Namely one that could become a way of earning a passive income.

I should say making money is not at the forefront. Quality (aesthetics and ease of use) are the primary concern, any monies made would just be icing.

I know some of you out there a sneakily successful at this, and I seek advice.
